It's more like walking out of a airport and having a personal Chauffeur who is waiting for you without a sign and you having to guess who your driver is, and you're completely inundated by the crowd, but in this case the Woods. The park was so small and the walking path isn't even a quarter mile long and if I said that I'd be generous. I'd say if you like walking around a neighborhood and through the "park" you'll be fine, but for running, I'd say there are few other options that's better suit you. Ok maybe I was a little harsh about the signage, but I added an extra star because I saw the signage towards the end of my run.

I saw and heard a dozen species plus a turtle! I also met three locals who were very kind and helped guide me on the trails and helped identify birds I didn't recognize. Thanks Jim and Case and the other gentlemen with the dog. Please note, the trails are not all marked and my sense of direction/internal compass is totally on the Fritz. I would not recommend blundering around like I did so it's easy to get turned around. Birds seen for sure included the solitary sandpiper, eastern phoebe, wood duck, great crested flycatcher, black crowned night heron, a pair of red shouldered hawks and of course, the easy to spot cardinal. However, no beaver was found at beaver lake! Hello beaver?! Hello!? I will try again. The lake was way down on water so I hope the beaver found a wetter home! Life is good with natural wonders enjoying their day!

The ballpark staff is often nice enough to overlook the rule against bringing in your own little picnic, but if they feel like enforcing it the day you visit, you'll be glad you can buy a Coke and some peanuts. The land for the park was donated by the early 20th century African American developer Heman Perry. The park started with a gift of six and a half acres and expanded to 25 acres when completed in 1928. It originally included a swimming pool, dancehall, pavilions, and tennis courts. This historic park has been referenced in the writings of many notable Atlantans over the years as a social center for swimming, tennis, dancing, and gathering. Today, Washington Park is home to one of only 5 city of Atlanta natatoriums and a state-of-the-art tennis center. Washington Park is bordered by the proposed Beltline, which has prompted development in the surrounding Washington Park Neighborhood. I didn't know the park would be so large. It is very green and well kept. There is a PATH walking/biking sidewalk that continues both east and west from where the Beltline trail intersects the park.
