Kolby was really systematic in his approach. First, he helped identify what I was truly passionate about. Second, he was almost a therapist in the sense that he addressed the work insecurities I had. Once I was on board and believed that I could do the work I wanted to do and do it well, he edited my resume and cover letter and LinkedIn profile. Then we used the remaining sessions to do some interview preparation, and really worked on telling my story in an interesting way, and ensuring that the interviewers understood it too. What I like about his approach was that he taught me that interviews are just as much about me interviewing the company as it is about them interviewing me. It was a mindshift for me to be picky and protective about where I want to work too. Anyways, with Kolby's help, I landed at a great place that resulted in a 45% salary increase! also the work life balance is much better, and the type of work is interesting too. In the meantime, they got all my personal information, then ignored my calls and email messages for weeks. I started the process three months before the semester began, and my appointment with the counselor ended up taking place about two weeks after the semester started. I think they do this intentionally, just to make sure you don't get the course. Who knows what they actually do with the money. All I got from them was a lot of candy-coated smoke and broken promises. What a giant waste of my time and energy, not to mention that I won't get the training I was hoping for to get a job. I can't wait another six months for the new semester. What a shame when so many people are in need of finances for health insurance, groceries, gas...that our government funds "organizations" like this.
