I'm a barber here and have been since August 2012. I've seen many good reviews and a few bad reviews, but I'm here just to enlighten the few who want to know if this shop is worth accompanying after all this. Of course my vote is yes ! The barbers here have all grown to be family and the environment usually feels just like that . A big family . Although we are all usually booked throughout the week, we still allow walk ins and do our best to keep them company while they wait. I personally believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion about a barber, but I'd say that we should at least keep it real when it comes to leaving a review . Not just jot down the negative and leave out the positive. We've done a lot for our community and continue to strive to put smiles on our peoples faces, in the shop and out of the shop . I wrote this all , in hopes that someone would see this and want to still come experience the Upgrade Cuts environment. And leave a review after you've heard from one of the barbers here . Peace & Love read more

NOW I know what the negative reviews are talking about! I made an appointment with Marcus today at 5pm after our conflicting schedules prevented me from being able to come in earlier. I arrived 10 minutes early and just from pulling up I could tell that Marcus was still cutting someone's hair so I waited out in the car for a few minutes. At about 5 minutes after 5 I could see Marcus was still cutting along persons hair, and I had to use the bathroom so I walked in to ask another employee if I could use the restroom. When I walked in know one greeted me either, and I had to find someone who wasn't cutting hair and was listening to music with headphones in an unoccupied chair used to wash hair. The guy I spoke to told me that the bathroom there was for employees only, in his defense it does say 'Employee's Only' but I thought that was more so so that random people didn't come walking in off the street just to try to use the bathroom. So I asked if that applied to customers as well, and he said yes and there was a bathroom across the street at the gas station, and apologized. I thought that was pretty inconvenient to not allow paying customers to use your restroom and to make them have to walk across the street just to use the bathroom. It also didn't help that my girlfriend's 8 year old son told me he had to use the restroom as well, because we both had to walk across the street just to use the restroom. Once we walked back to the shop it was about 5:15 and I walked in by myself, as my girlfriend and her son stayed in the car and Marcus was still cutting someone's hair. I waited 15 more minutes not realizing it, assuming when I walked in the guy before getting a haircut would be done in a couple minutes; but that wasn't the case. I just sat there and Marcus never said anything, while two other employees asked if I was waiting to be seen to which I replied yes and pointed to Marcus. After being there 40 minutes total and 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment, I just left and obviously won't be going back. OVERALL: Just based on my personal experience since this wasn't my 1st time here, the vibe as a new or occasional customer can you turn. As you're not really greeted by the barbers when you walk in apparently if they don't know you, which doesn't start your experience off right. And based on this time and some other reviews, some of the barbers there don't value or respect your time. And either squeeze in frequent customers, typical clients and or friends, and make others wait. read more

Walked into the spot yesterday after work. I was there one time before it was ok. I ask for a bald fade so he did what did. He brushed me off and I say to him " what I owe you" he like 40. I'm like dollars !! Paid him got home mad , woke up today mad. Just got home work, still mad. So I'm writing this. The worse bald fade and terrible line up. I'm cool with the 40$ it is what it is, but not this bs. Come on man, dam read more

Honestly I had a terrible time. I came in here looking for a barbershop close to home and I ended up being seated with tre Louis. Now I should've known when he said he was still in school that maybe I should've waited for someone else but I figured I'd give the man a chance. I asked for combover on top and leave about 2 inches of hair on top and a fade on the sides. This man proceeds to take the clippers to the top of my head. And I should've known something was up cause when he did the first cut he stopped and froze for a second. Then just went for it. This man then finishes and starts combing my hair to the side like I have hair to even combover. And then when he shows my hair to me through the mirror I tell him he went way to short and all he said is " oh my bad" and I thought u know maybe he knew he fucked up so maybe he will discount me or something and he charged me full for a fucked up cut. I politely paid the man and went on my way. Look idk if he was afraid to use his scissors or something but if he reads this just know man maybe a couple more months in school to learn how to do a combover is what you need. I will not be coming back to this place. And honestly if anyone does plan on coming in I wouldnt go to tre Louis unless u just want a fade and a buzz cut since he seems to be afraid to use the scissors read more

Upgrade Cuts & Styles - Definitely not a combover with 2 inches of hair at the top - Barbers Near Me - Sacramento, California

Been going to Upgrade for 6 years, I must say it is a great barbershop, it stays busy so if your impatient it may not be the place for you but if you are looking for a good haircut it's worth the wait. All the barbers are good, I go to Seon, he's located straight to the back. On the other side of the barbershop is a clothing boutique w/ clothes for men, women & kids. They also have hats, beanies & other apparel. Upgrade is located at 1195 Florin Rd across the street from chevron gas station, if your in the area stop by & get Upgraded. read more

Worst haircut I've ever had! Came in here about a month ago because my normal barber was on vacation. I used to go here about 8 years ago figured I'd try them out again. Barber was super stoned didn't hear me correctly when I told him how I wanted my hair cut or maybe he just didn't care and shaved off all my hair. I asked for a trim on top and fade with a .5 cut on the sides and he straight up tried to cut my top at a .5! How do you do a fade with a .5 at the top?! If I could help just one person avoid as horrible of a haircut I got at this barbershop, this post will be worth it. Would of been better off at a super cuts or great clips ‍ read more

This is an all-around family place where any age they can fit your needs. My son got his first haircut here his brothers get his haircut here as well as their father. As well as getting some fresh haircut and styles you can also mingle in the back where there is a clothing store in which you can purchase them with the store owner's clothing brand it has great styles at affordable prices mixed with the haircut which also has specials for seniors and kids it's just an all-around Great place to support read more

I just moved to this particular location and I wanted to try a closer location for a haircut. The place looked very busy so I expected that once I went in there would be a long wait. Finally last evening I decided to go in after work to set up an appointment for Saturday.i was greeted by one of the barbers and I inquired about an appointment and he directed me to Wayne. Wayne seemed to be a nice fellow so I preceded to inquire about making an appointment for today. We set up a time which he did not enter into his calendar on his phone...Hint #1. Next I asked if it would be better to walk in and if this shop accepted walk-in 's, he said yes. I inquired about his rate which he didn't understand so I said how much for a hair cut in which he proceeded to say $40. I said what?!? He commenced to tell me Saturday was their busiest day etc. Hint#2. The gentleman in the chair was just chuckling. To shorten this review, I won't be going back. I could not tell if this was blatant discrimination for a woman coming into the shop or what. My hair is very short and there I no way I'm paying $40 for a haircut. I'm also a senior and on the window of the shop is advertised $10 for seniors and children. We need to get it together people. read more

Every barber in this establishment has what my people would call "Bars" . I'd definitely go here every chance I get or when I'm in Sacramento. Nice professional with a hello as I walked in. Not to mention it's right of the freeway. read more

As I was listening to my favorite song on Frank Ocean's new album, I was in the chair before it was over. Hair parted w/ a barber's preciseness !! After just 30 minutes of being in the chair, I took 10 steps into the Still Grindin' boutique (WHICH IS INSIDE THE BARBERSHOP!!!) and found my outfit for my night out !! They really know what the people want. I'm a new man !! Thanks Upgrade =] If you're on your way to Upgrade, ask for Marcus, Seon, Dion or Kenny and tell them Bobby sent you. You won't regret it !! read more

They had my man lookin real fresh will definitely be coming here again. Besides the fact that they don't have a bathroom I love this shop.

worst haircut i have ever received in my life. i asked for a taper and brought in a picture to show what i wanted and still received a ball fade with a crooked line. i had to go to a different barber to fix my hairline. if you go here for a haircut stay away from jason, i repeat stay away from jason or your haircut will be a tragedy. he had to ask a different barber how to do a razor line for him because he can't. how have you been a barber for ten years but can't do a razor line? i think he's going blind. remember stay away from jason he's blind read more

Got my hair done by Yuri today. She was quick, gentle, and professional. She worked with me to create a super cute and original style. The location is ideal; right off I-5 and the place is clean. Prices are also very reasonable and they have mid-week specials. read more

Took my son in to get his hair cut. He loved it. Everyone was super cool and down to earth. A lot of positive energy in the shop. Reminded me of those old school barbershops you see in the movies, but modern for our generation. Definitely somewhere I'll be taking my son more to. read more

My husband and my kid just left your establishment without my son's hair cut..... I get it, you are busy, blah blah blah..... but the fact that you just let my husband and Autistic son sit there for 45 minutes without even acknowledging them..... seriously.... hella unprofessional and disrespectful to your potential clients. Your customer service sucks, but it obviously doesn't matter to you, because I am not the first reviewer with the same thoughts! So... I'll just leave that right there for you...... read more

This review is way past due :( I'm not one to get my hair done on the regular...usually put it up in a hair tie and call it a day, but on those occasions when I have to do a little more, I go to Yuri. I am of mixed race and have tried NUMEROUS stylists over the past half century with little success until the Upgrade opened in my neighborhood and was blessed with Yuri! She knows what I want, even with my "kinda like this and then like then" description of the type of cut I have in my minds eye...she figures it out! She knows what type of products and processes work for my mixed up hair and she ALWAYS gets it right. My Godchild was recently married and we were blessed to have Yuri at the venue to do her hair, and anyone else who needed Yuri's special touch....made the day perfect and we will forever be grateful! Bottom line...doesn't get any better than Yuri...go see her soon! read more

Excellent! Always do a great job. They never disappoint. Most of the time it's best if you schedule an appointment but you can get luck with walk-ins also read more

Took my son here the other day for a hair cut on Tuesday, which is kids discount Tuesday to pay a cheaper price. However, once my son's hair cut was done, we paid full price even though there is a sign on the front window... not all barbers honor the kids discount Tuesday hair cuts, so you need to ask first. Hair cut was nice though and my son liked it. It was just a little frustrating... read more

The sign said they close at 7pm. But when I showed up at 6, they said they were closed. Bs if you ask me. I won't go back!

I've ATTEMPTED to get my son's hair cut here twice. Once last year and again today. Both times I was never greeted, asked if I had an appointment or anything. After waiting about 10 minutes not knowing who was going to help us or when... we left!!! CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! read more

As a mom finding a barbershop for my son has often been a very unpleasant adventure. But I am happy to say this place is one of the better experiences I've had over the past 16 years. There are no offensive music videos playing - and I mean we've seen some unreal things on barbershop tv monitors; no offensive music, no parade of prostitutes and clients running in and out of a back room (no kidding we've experienced this) there is no permeating smell of weed to swallow up every molecule of fresh air within a 5 mile radius, and the barbers are actually willing to cut hair. Now don't get me wrong it is what is - a barbershop. Don't go in there expecting to be warmly greeted when you walk in - instead, expect to be sized up and quickly ignored. Don' let that stop you - pick the barber who held the longest eye contact (about 2 seconds), and smile - then ask if they can cut your son's hair. More than likely you'll get a nod and a your son will get a wave to the chair and 15-20 minutes later, you'll have a handsome, well groomed kid. My son likes C-on. He says he doesn't talk (my son HATES chatty barbers) but gives an awesome cut, he's relatively quick and for you moms - he's a nice guy and if you're lucky enough to catch it - he has a killer smile. read more

They stink. They say they're professionals but they're NOT. I went in for an eyelash application and totally messed up. The way they applied them wasn't good. I, myself could've done a better job! Don't go here it's not worth the money! Also when I came in they all gave me faces fulllll of attitudes. I did not feel welcomed. I felt like they wanted me to leave because I was the last customer and it was near closing time. Never again will I come here!!!! read more

I've been searching for a barber in the south sac area for a while and I ran across upgrade from word of mouth and instagram. I really like the haircut I was giving. I've been cut by 3 different barbers and everyone does a really good job. Very consistent with the haircuts, which I like. They pay attention to detail. Even as I wait, I watch all the haircuts that walk out and they look amazing. Good environment I would recommend my family and friends. I'm definitely found my new spot! read more

My son has been getting his haircut here since the shop opened up. I haven't had any issues, EVER! My son used to hate clippers near his head, but the barbers here make him feel super comfortable. When he asks for a specific design or style THEY DELIVER EVERY TIME! The pricing is affordable and there are even kid's specials. read more
