They give out good haircuts, but I made an appointment 3 days in advanced and they canceled it an hour before. Kinda sucks that they don't really care read more

Nice place; rude workers. They ignore you and let people go ahead of you if they know them. Super unprofessional. Waited over an hour and they let 3 people who walked in go ahead of me. There are better places with decent people that know how to give a proper fade. Don't give money to these rude people. read more

I stumbled upon this place randomly a while back while I was in the area, and decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. I have been getting a haircut here from Alfredo for a while now, and he always does an amazing job! All the other barbers here do a great job as well and also take their time and pay really close attention to detail - they aren't just trying to rush you out and get their next client in the chair. If you want to make a visit, I highly recommend making an appointment. read more

I was always scared to try The Upgrade when it first opened, but yet it was the talk of the town. So after my old barber shop kept messing up my hair I finally decided to try The Upgrade..and I Never looked back I even bring my dad here whose 69 years old. I've been coming here for 3 years and have gone through about 5 different hairstyle and they always make any style look the Freshest. I always come out filling like a Million dollars. No matter what barber you get they are all Amazing. But my barber of choice is Ricky T. The vibe here is great!! always have the radio playing (anytime music) to having the TVs on you get to catch sports events or TV shows. You know the owner is doing a Fantastic Job because he recently opened up a Salon right next door for the women...so bring your Wife/Gf/Mom/anyone for a cut and color. Best vibes.best fades. Great price. Great Barbers read more

Come on the week days to get your hair cut, less crowds and high school kids. It gets really busy on Fridays and Saturdays. They really do a great job on line ups, bears trims, fades and tapers. I came here because I wanted to switch barbers and they do a pretty decent job. They gave me a real clean come over the last times I have been here. read more

Did a good job and pretty welcoming. We were seen right away, Really payed attention to detail and took his time. (We were seen by moses) I'd recommend this place to friends and family. :3 Tip: They accept cash only, but have an atm located inside and best time to come is likely a weekday in the morning. read more

I make an appointment for 9am four days early only for them to cancel it the night before at 1030pm?! This shop don't care about you. Jorge, it's a shame your employees aren't more professional. I used to come here all the time but it seems over the years the shop has cared less and less for its customers. Some of the other reviews are accurate. They're more about partying and taking care of their personal friends/family over business. read more

The upgrade has been taking me for 2 years now and they have passion for what they do. Steve my barber has given me the sharpest haircuts I've ever had. I always get complimented when I get a fresh chop. I've been other places and there always seems to be an issue with attentiveness and skill. Steve is hands down the best barber I've ever had with the straight razor shave hot towel aftershave and on top of that is a really cool guy. Thanks Steve and Jorge and the whole team at upgrade I recommend you to anyone that wants to look fresh!! read more

Best barber shop in the SGV, everyone on deck and ready to serve you with a crisp fresh cut

I've been here once before and the haircut was clean. The barber took his time, he was texting and using his phone while in the middle of my haircut. Turned out nice tho. Came back today and there was only one barber. Had a seat and waited an hour before he finished up, when he was done he says " This guy is next he has an appointment". Are you serious?? If you know you have an appointment and no time. Say something!! I wasted my time here. This place is unprofessional with customer service. 1 Star because the haircut that took an hour to finish looked nice on the guy. read more

This is my favorite barbershop. I get an amazing haircut as well as a good laugh here. These guys that work there are so funny and friendly. They are always cracking jokes, but they know how to back off if it's necessary. There are all types of people that come through here. Young guys, kids, old guys, it doesn't matter, they accommodate to everyone. I've gotten my haircut from Ricky T the past two times and he's great. Takes his time and always does an amazing job. I've also gotten haircuts from Brother Steve, Geo, and Jorge Avilla and they all cut hair exactly the same. As long as you know what you want they can do it. They are a great team of barbers and this is a great barbershop. I always recommend this place to all my friends and I figured it's about time I posted a review on here and recommend it to anyone else trying to get a haircut on Yelp. read more

Upgrade Barbershop - Best haircut I've ever received. - Barbers Near Me - El Monte, California

Back in Seattle there was this elderly lady that spoke no English that used to cut my hair at the local Supercuts. She would consistently overuse the electric razor and slice a small hole in my ear, then try to be slick by taking a piece of tissue, wetting it, and pretending to wipe hairs off my head when in reality she was trying to stop the bleeding and hope I won't notice. After that I decided to go to man barbershops. I work in SEO/copywriting/online marketing, and it amazes me that people don't add their new and local businesses to Yelp on like day one. The big guy that cut my hair, who I will refer to as "Big Guy," asked me how I found them. I told him I found them because they were a block away. Then I told him he should add his business into Yelp, since it's really the easiest way to find anyone. Big Guy shrugged and laughed and said "yeah, I've heard" and didn't think much more of it. So I told him I'll enter it in myself as a favor, and that he should be prepared for the wave of customers that will flock to the shop as a result. So if you go because of this review, the first thing you should say is "I found this place on Yelp. You should thank that guy that entered you into Yelp with six cases of your finest mead." My hair is easy to cut, so I have no idea how one would vouch for his skill, but I think that Big Guy did a good job - he spent a long time on my hair, and was clearly careful to make sure every corner was cut perfect. He even used a straight edge razor at one point for some of the smaller areas, and was consistently grabbing for his clippers to touch up a small section. All while MTV's Ridiculousness was playing on the 3 big flatscreens. So based on that limited information, I have to give this place max stars. What else can a barber do? Go here. Review it yourself. Credit Yelp. That's how we do. read more

Waited since 7:20 am on Saturday. They opened at 8:06 am. The only Barber Jorge Avila helped his two buddies who arrived at 8am. Didn't bother to ask who was here first. I detest this kind of poor business practice. I'm sure they would disguise under the lie of he had an "appointment". Never going back there again. No respect. read more

I just lost two hours of my life waiting for my turn and the barbers would cut their friends hairs first . not to mention all the profanity and the loud music . no body bother to greet me as I arrived . prices are extremely high $20.00 for a hair cut . wow really ? Now I remember why I stopped coming to this place. I went next shopping center and got a nice service and hair cut for less than half the price wow . and the ladies were extremely nice professional and courteous . upgrade is more like downgrade . never coming back to this place . goodbye Downgrade read more

They are not with putting a star for the rating system. I took my son in this shop on 08/11/2018 and did not feel welcome at all. The barber who cut my son hair had attitude and he cut my son hair to short on top which I ask to just take a little off and make sure it will blend with a #2 on the side. I even ask him to taper the back and he squared him up which I never have a squared in the back. He acted like I didn't know what I was talking about. He ask with attitude if he wanted a fade I said no. For paying $20 for uneven cut and for me having to fix it at home by shaving my son hair right before school start is wrong in every way. I will never come back to this shop. read more

This place is garbage. I'm only giving it 1 star because I can't give them 0. First off all this is the rudest barber shop ever no ones acknowledge u when u walk in. You just come in n sit down and fight for ur turn. When a barber is done they call out NEXT no order what so ever. Also u have guys coming in and and get service right away so the turn gets all screwed up. They surely act like the are some bomb ass barber. Lol funny. So if u want to go to a rude barber and maybe get into a fight this is ur spot read more

READ THIS! This is the place to go to! I've been going to these guys for about 2 years now and I've never been dissapointed. I've never left a review but I'm doing so this time because they went above and beyond. I made the mistake of trying out a different barbershop because it was closer to where I live: huge mistake. They fucked my hair up bad! I called up the Upgrade an hour before their closing time and Avila told me to head on over and they'll see what they could do. I get there and explained to them what happened and that I had an important interview coming up I needed to look good and clean. My barber, RickyT, was like "say no more!" He gave me the cleanest cut of my life! He stayed at extra 35 minutes after closing in order to make sure that my cut was clean. If that's not a devoted barber, then I'm not sure what is! Only downside is that it can get a bit crowded on Friday evenings and weekends, BUT that's what you expect out of a place that gives out great service. They do take appointments too! read more

First barbershop experience and it was a great one. Always went to supercuts before but not anymore. There was a little bit of a wait at the beginning but it was worth it. I always have trouble describing what I want to barbers but I gave them a vague description and when I put my glasses back on to see his work I was highly impressed. After the cut I added on a clean shave and that made me feel super fresh. Cut, fade and shave came out to 25 totally worth it and I'll be coming back for sure. Just remember people cash only! read more

Trying out a new barber shop... the atmosphere seems pretty friendly, every barber seems pretty focused on what they are doing. Horrible place! Staff doesn't greet you when you come in. We waited almost 2 hours. The haircut my boy received looked bad. It looked like he didn't even get a haircut. The barber did the minimum. I had asked him for a short hair cut, this clown still left it long. Also their televisions are too loud. I would not recommend this place. $17 went to the trash. It's el monte for crying out loud. $17 really? This place is a joke.. a ghetto joke. read more

I give this place ZERO STARS!!!!! This place is a freaken JOKE!!! It seems that everytime I go there it smells like pot shop, The smell is so strong, it smells like they are smoking in the back room.. There is a sign that says no foul language in the presents of women and kids, but they always playing dirty nasty rap music, kids or women in the room or not.. They are using razor blades on kids for line ups and drinking beer at the same time. Every Barber looks stone outta their mind, completely unacceptable and dangerous. This place should be shut down. I will never go there again and I will make to SPREAD the word to make sure no one goes there especially with their kids!!!! read more

I've been going to this barber shop and it's usually pretty decent Andres is usually the one who does my hair, but this last time it was someone different this baber was very unprofessional he even left me half way to go outside and talk on the phone. However the worst part was my hair I asked for a medium fade comb over and I got trash. He gave me the hair style of Bert from Sesame Street not even close to what I wanted. I had let my hair grow out for a long time and now I had to cut the top short because this guy messed up my hair. I didn't wanted it say anything there cuz I had my son and there was other kids and people and didn't wanted to argue you about it..but sucks went you pay 20 bolas and you get nothing good. I'm fucken stress about it.. I even do a better job on my on I have my own machine to do it.. But I didn't wanted to get my restroom dirty with hairs.. A this point I had it do it my self fix it and fade it again.. Thanks vatos for a sucky job. read more
