The best money you will spend in your entire life! I found this little gem when i was in university and haven't stopped going and I don't think I ever will unless I am in another country! A weird looking, small (used to be smokey) dingy looking club but as soon as the lights come on and the compare begins it is like being transported to funny land. If you go here you must sit on the front row to be included in the comedy. There is nothing better than having the mick taken out of you with a few drinks and on a budget of £20! The one suggestion I would make is to get there early to get a good seat. They serve Thai food upstairs and you can either sit up there and watch the comedy on a screen or eat it off your lap! However, I would not suggest eating whilst the comedians are on! You will either choke with laughter or they will seriously abuse you! Whilst a little small and dark for some people, the atmosphere fits perfectly, and it's a lovely place to bring a small group and enjoy a laugh, a drink and a dance! The staff are friendly, the people that come here are friendly... I'm not sure what else to say! Oooh this is a nice comedy venue: small enough to be very intimate, but big enough to allow a loud chuckle to reverberate through the audience. I just wish it was a little closer to central London, as it took me aaaaages to get home via the DLR! I came here with some friends to watch a BBC 4 recording of Can't Tell Nathan Caton Nothing. Yay for free BBC comedy recordings...it was a really fun evening. - There is a cash bar at the back, but they also have a cash machine in the venue...so that's not too bad. - There aren't enough ladies loos, so you might need to zoom to the loo during breaks if you want to avoid the MASSIVE queue. read more

Up The Creek is a great comedy venue where you can see some fantastic (and of course, not so fantastic) comedians at a cheap entry price. The main comedy room is split into two sections so that you have the option of risking getting spotted by the comedians or completely staying out of their way. There is also a gorgeous eating area upstairs which is elaborately decorated and serves some great food including Thai curries - the theme is generally Thai which is quite unique for a comedy venue. After the comedy show they have a DJ, the floors are cleared and you can have a good old boogie! The tunes are a little more on the cheesy pop side but I don't care what anyone says; cheesy pop makes for a fun night! I went on a Sunday evening where entry is £5 and saw Russell Howard which was a great bonus (he is also very good looking in person!). The quality of the lesser known comedians was also a very high standard - only one was a little cringe-worthy. I had a really fabulous time here. A great option if you don't fancy a trek into town to watch good comedy - if anything, I preferred this venue to the mainstream ones. read more

Up The Creek is an ideal night out if a group of friends fancy something a little different. The night is split into two parts, the stand up comedy and the disco afterwards. The calibre of comedians is impressive. In recent times I have seen Simon Amstell (who rocked the place) and Ricky Grover but was gutted to have missed the likes of Dara O'Briain, Russell Howard and Rich Hall as well as many more who I have blocked from my memory as the thought of missing them is too painful. I have also seen some dire comedians on show but I have to say that seeing at least one bad act on a showcase is in a twisted way part of seeing a stand up comedy night. It is fun to watch them panic in front of an intimate audience as they desperately try to drum up new material. When the comedy is finished the chairs get stacked up and the place turns into a dance floor for a disco to finish the night off. There is plenty of room for your group to hang out in and you do not feel cramped or get knocked into frequently by others. If you get peckish or fancy a break from dancing there is Thai food available in a seated area upstairs which is different to what you normally get in night venues. The bar area is very small and in between acts it gets very congested. Credit is due for the bar staff who serve everyone as quickly as possible and it is rare that you hear anyone complain. My only gripe is the price. £15-20 on a Friday or Saturday is a lot, especially if you are unfamiliar with the acts that you are going to see. It can feel like a little bit of a gamble but often you get at least one great act per set. Sundays are the best days as it is £5 to get in but there is no disco and tickets sell out very quickly as Sundays are often when the biggest names appear. It is well worth getting on their mailing list to get a heads up as to who is appearing and occasionally they will advertise a "mystery guest", usually a comic from television, which for the £5 you will pay is worth the gamble. Parking near the venue is difficult as it is on a main road but there are car parks on the other side of the town about a 5 minute walk away which do not charge in the evening. If you don't fancy driving then Up The Creek is a 2 minute walk from Cutty Sark DLR station. read more

I've been here a few times. It's conveniently located in the centre of Greenwich. Comedy-wise, they have usually three or four acts per night and nine of ten of them will be worth seeing, so it's a fairly safe bet. The place is a nice size, everyone is near the stage but there are enough people to have a bit of an atmosphere. Aside from the comedy, the drinks are pretty bad and come in plastic glasses. They have Doom Bar in the bottle which is at least somewhat to my taste, otherwise it is a lot of uncared-for lager. After the comedy at 11ish, it turns into something of a club. I've been to places with far worse music. The music is bad but less bad than you might fear. You can get out quickly if you have to. read more

This is a fabulous comedy club. There have been some weeks where i've seen great acts here, and then accidentally seen them at The comedy Store later that weekend. That gives you an idea of the calibre of the acts. It's not a pretty place. Drinks in plastic glasses, sticky chairs and poky toilets, but while the comedy is on you don't care. I always have a great night. I do recommend leaving before the place turns into a club though. You've got to be really pissed to dance about to build me up buttercup with the rest of the hen parties. Not fun. Always messy. Aside from Sundays - the cheapest day to go, they've pushed the price of this place up to include the disco which is a bit cheeky. I'd suggest going on sunday for some giggles and getting out of their before you're dancing about to ABBA. read more

I could not agree more. Sunday night here is £5 to get in and there is often stars from TV shows like Mock the Week performing. Bargain...great shows, great vibe and unique venue. An interesting little comedy club situated on the edge of martime Greenwich just over the road from the entrance to the Cutty Sark DLR station. Up The Creek was a fascination of mine for some time whilst I was at University. My halls were just over the road and a good piece of weekend entertainment would be to sit in the window watching the inevitable fist fights that would kick off outside during the comedy club's post show parties. This was all a great distraction but it was only last year that for the first time I actually went to check out a show. I was pleasently surprised. The Sunday evening slot generally gets good national (sometimes interntional) talent and is reasonably priced. There's a lounge jazz act that joins the gaps between the acts and makes a nice way to wrap up the weekend. Worth a visit if you're in the mood for a laugh, though I'm not sure I'm yet brave enough to try it on the other days of the weekend! read more

Best value comedy club in town. I saw Steven Merchant, Russell Howard, Russell Brand amongst others in my time going one Sunday evening. Lots of students and locals for £6 it's epic value for a few hours. The Sunday Special which I'm talking about ends about 11.15 so you often have to dash for last trains....but it's so worth it (I travel from the other side of London for this). read more

I went to Up The Creek to see Ed Byrne in a fairly intimate performance in what is a fairly medium-sized comedy club. It's a nice space, lots of seats facing a small stage and a bar in a room next door. It's decorated nicely and the setup for the stage was quite strange but interesting (an old tv, a lamp stand, a small table etc). The house band played jazz in between acts which was more pleasant than silence and the comedians were good quality. Although I've only been once, from the lineup I saw they seem to book good comedians quite regularly and so is somewhere I'll definitely be going to again in the future. read more

been here a few times and love the place, its a nice little comedy club in the heart of Greenwich, which also carries on to a night club afterwards. they had a wide variety of acts and all seem to be really good. we have never had a bad time going here. as expected the drinks are not that cheap but that's expected from a place like this. We don't really stay long after it turns into a club, but u do get a queue outside when it does. So must be very popular. Most people park along the street out side, but its not that easy to get parking, unless u park on the dodgy local estates. read more

Up The Creek is a great comedy venue in Greenwich, many big name stand up comedians have performed here. I've also been part of the audience here when the BBC were recording a comedy radio show. It's a little bit worn looking on the inside, but I guess this all adds to the character of the place. Bar prices are average for somewhere like this and often you'll have to wait a bit to get served. You can eat here too as they have a limited Thai menu which is fairly cheap. When they comedy is over on a Friday or Saturday night, they'll put on a disco which is included in the admission price, so it really is somewhere you can spend the whole evening if you want to! read more

Wow i remember when this place opened, you could go in there and rub shoulders with little or unknown up and coming comedians like harry hill and vic reaves , it was a little bit of the westends comedy club brought south of the river, sadly after the death of its founder and owner Malcolm Hardy, i dont think the place has ever been the same, it tries its best, but Malcolm with his cheeky compare act kept the place alive. Expensive drinks, but all said and done where else are you going to go for an evenings entertainment this side of the river. Thats why i gave it 4 stars, the drinks may be expensive, but with regular up and coming comedians its a bloody good night out. read more

Looks a little odd from the outside, with a statue of a man sitting on a toilet above the door. The outside looks a little uninviting, but inside once the comedy starts its a good night out. The comedy acts are varied and there are often well known comedians appearing. Food is served upstairs at a reasonable price, and you can bring this downstairs with you if you want, whilst the comedy is on. Pricing is very reasonable and you can have a good night out with friends on a limited budget. Sunday night is cheap night - only a fiver to get in! read more

I love Up The Creek, you're probably always gonna have a great night out even if the comedy doesn't always hit your funny bone. The booze is quite cheap and the bar staff are friendly and attentive. I absolutely adore the Thai menu offered upstairs, its nothing fancy, its greasy but hits the spot. Cheap too. The disco is always a laugh (which is after the the comedy on a weekend. Have visited this place twice now, and although the comedy was good they ran out of lager and ice on both occasions.

Did their 6 week beginners stand up comedy course and what a transformation in six week from having no material to a polished 5 min set. The showcase night was packed with friends and family - about 180 people turned up to see us and the atmosphere was electric. Paul the manager was also so supportive. First time many of my friends have been there and great transport links with DLR opposite. Went back on a Sunday night and saw some good acts. Biggest plus for me was being able to play such a big well known comedy club for my first gig. Tutor pulls no punches and because of it gets the best out of the students. read more
