Cal and Terrie are pure class whose friendliness and hospitality is surpassed only by their keen regard for safety. My family and I purchase the "No Frills" two-hour cruise out of Holland, MI. I could tell from the very beginning that we were in good hands. Terrie sent instructions on the meeting location as well as a personalized video message to us which was a very warm and welcomed gesture. She met us in the parking lot, greeted us with a friendly smile and gentle handshake, and then guided us to our vessel where we met Captain Cal, her counterpart. It is rare to find such personable, welcoming hosts. Terrie brought out finger food for us while Captain Cal expertly navigated us through the channel, elaborating on the history and culture of the locality on our taxi to Lake Michigan. My father is poor with motion sickness and Captain Cal and Terrie consistently checked in to ensure he was feeling well, offering remedies to any potential onset of illness based on their 40+ years of experience. In all, it was a fantastic time and one could easily tell these are good people who value safety above all and, importantly, want to ensure you have a positive experience (which we did, and then some!). I am a pretty avid adventure traveller and can tell you there will be no regrets about booking time with Captain Cal and Terrie! Enjoy!

Well this was amazing! I highly recommend the sunset cruise with Captain Pat. He met us at the…read moreHolland Yacht Club and took us to his stunningly beautiful sailboat, the Nancy Anne. After a brief safety chat and some sailing basics, the six of us plus the captain were out on the water. Our 2.5 hour sail took us out on lake Macatawa, and cost about $60 per person, which I think is a pretty excellent value, considering you get this beautiful, brand new boat - a new 2017 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 419 sailboat - and the expertise of Captain Pat. I had no idea doing something like this was so accessible. Captain Pat was funny, knowledgeable, gregarious. In a movie, he would be played by either Redford or Eastwood - one of them would probably direct, too. You know this guy has some great stories, and we got to scratch the surface with a few. He also has thousands and thousands of hours of sailing and a masters license from the US Coast Guard and races every Wednesday night in the summer, so you know you're in excellent, safe, cautious hands. My brother-in-law Brad has taken some sailing classes and was excited to learn more. Captain Pat showed him the ropes, and talked him through a lot of really practical stuff. Brad was at the helm almost the entire time, with the exception of entering the locks upon our return. He got a lot of hands-on experience and seemed to really enjoy it. The rest of us enjoyed sitting on the beautiful boat, watching the shoreline get small as the sun started to set. We brought our own wine, he had cool glasses that wouldn't spill and some snacks. I was thankful for my fleece and hat, since it was a little cold during certain points on the water (although other times in the right light and wind direction, it was almost balmy). We had a wonderful experience, and I would absolutely do this again if given the chance.

They are located on Lake Macatawa, on Ottawa Beach Road, just across from the campground for RVs and next to a small little beach. We got to the boathouse right about as it opened at 10am, and only waited a few minutes to get service, due to the large group ahead of us that was being helped. They went out in single and double kayaks, which it looked like there were plenty of at the time. No reservations were required, and we didn't make any, so I was glad to see so much equipment there. We asked for paddleboards and got a basic tutorial on their use after we mentioned we had only tried to paddleboard once before. We were asked how long we wanted the boards for, and when we responded about an hour, a beautiful route was suggested to us, and we were told it would be about an hour there and back at a leisurely pace. She was right - we hit the time mark pretty true, and the way there and back was so pretty on a pretty calm lake. The employee asked if we wanted her to put our car keys, wallets, etc. in a lockbox she had at the boathouse, so we wouldn't have to worry about them, which I thought was really nice. She also told us the parking in the lot next to the boathouse would require a beach parking pass, but there are two spots available for patrons (if you can snag them), or there's free 3 hour parallel parking on Ottawa Beach Road. Our total cost was $40 for two one hour paddleboard rentals, which was pretty reasonable and a fun way to spend a morning. Do visit Macatawa Boat House to rent paddleboards or kayaks if you're in Holland. We had a great experience.
