We came across the location I. The touristy downtown area and so thankful to the young lady who…read moresuggested we drive to the base location so we wouldn't have to get on a bus and could have access to the bathrooms and changing rooms. While at the base we also bought waterproof cases for our phones as it's a must . . . But the biggest must and don't let these people fool you is getting that stick. They will tell you it's optional and yes it does cost but you will wish you had the stick when you are stuck on a rock and can't push off. We got on the river near the end of the day and did the long route. It was suppose to take 2 hours but as soon as we got on the river it started pouring so between increased water flow and us pushing ourselves down the river we finished in about 1 1/2 hours. At the half way point there were staff members asking if we wanted to get out (many people hand gotten out and abandoned their float) however we were in for the long haul. The water was shallow in most spots, a few deep areas, the do offer life vest for free. I'm from Texas and we float the river every summer so I'm not new to this but this was seriously one of the best floats I've had (even with the rain and the sunblock that melted into my eyes). The staff was super friendly, we were the last ones to get off the river. They held our keys with an ID. They offered a military discount and we would definitely do this again. Get the stick, thank me later!!

We lost our stick and jumped out to get it. The river rocks are very unforgiving to feet. Bring water shoes in case you end up outside your tube. We were strapped together and ran the strap through our shoes to keep from losing them. We got caught in a torrential rain fall. It was no one's fault and we finished the float anyway. I would go back and do it again.

Lake Jocassee is beautiful, but if you are only seeing it from the small part accessible from…read moreshore, you are really missing out. If you don't own your own boat, you couldn't do better than Stephanie at Jocassee Keowee Rentals. We knew we wanted to rent a boat for at least one of our days at Devil's Fork State Park and researched several of the other area companies. We chose Stephanie and JKR because she had the best value. In fact, because her prices were so reasonable, we were able to rent for two days for not much more than one day would have cost with the other providers. Stephanie's commitment to customer service was also great. Since we were renting for two consecutive days, she allowed us to leave our ice chests and fishing gear on the boat overnight, even providing us with a locking cable to secure our ice chest. We have 2 adult children and one 12 year old; when I picked up the boat, I described his size to her and she provided a life vest she felt would fit him. Later, we encountered her on the lake in her own boat and she swapped the vest out with another because she didn't feel it fit him perfectly. Her knowledge of the lake is also extensive, she provided us with a waterproof map and marked the best spots for photos and swimming. We were able to find them all and they were as beautiful as she described. To see someone who runs her business with such energy and joy is indeed a pleasure to see. We will definitely come back to Lake Jocassee and we will certainly call on Stephanie and Jocassee Keowee Rentals when we do.

Feeling a little worried, I reached out hoping to at least switch the paddle board to a kayak, but wanted something dog friendly too. And boy did their service go above and beyond! Not only did they give me recommendations for the dog, they also went out early to confirm conditions were safe before we headed out so we didn't waste a trip. They ended up bringing multiple options and getting us in a double kayak with room for my corgi to come along and it was the MOST beautiful day. They even refunded the difference in cost. So thankful they made my birthday kayak trip a success!

It had a coupon for $12 off!! We called on Tuesday night about 7:45 (they closed at 9) and talked to Teresa who was able to schedule our foursome for a trip at 2:00 on Wednesday. She was so helpful and gave us some tips for travel to Hartford. Once we got there we checked in with a very competent and thorough young lady. We took a short bus ride to the "put in" point. On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley. He gave us great paddling instructions before we even entered the raft. Since we had all been river rafting before, he explained that the trick to having a more exciting trip is to synchronize your paddle strokes. We had a great time with Brantley. We truly appreciate his concern for our "fun factor" and especially our safe trip down the river.
