There are kid friendly height chairs and tables for the young ones to feel like adults. Books are easily within reach for every young age and the librarians are so helpful. The kids can practice checking out books at a kiosk in the children's section that is lower in height. There are online options for reserving books and looking at the selection available at Champaign and Urbana library. It's so easy to find a book you want and have it reserved for pick up .The library is open 7 days a week which gives ultimate flexibility.

Given the shaky state of the SSA under DOGE, I have been very pleasantly surprised at how…read more*functional* and orderly our local Champaign-Urbana office has been. The lobby has enough seating normally. There are no frantic crowds. There is one man sitting guard at a desk. The number system keeps things orderly. Staffing appears a bit low, so it takes a while, but none of the waiting times (in 3 visits this 2025) have been unreasonable for a government department. Employees are polite. My just-started benefits arrived *early*. You would almost not be aware that things in Washington, DC, and Baltimore are in chaos. I have far more trust in getting results by visiting our local branch than waiting endlessly on the official SSA telephone lines. (Admittedly understaffed.)

My letters are not received (since I never get replies from them) and they keep sending me the same letters over and over again. I got it the first time! So they keep stressing me out my re-sending me the same issue that I have to read and get depressed about. I wish you didn't give me the money, rather than giving it and now asking for it back. I do not have it!

The veteran writing below about the woman who runs it being on a power trip is not exaggerating. She is rude and enjoys her a little slice of power in the middle of nowhere, and I feel sorry for The veteran, who has served our country, to have his paperwork rejected. Or anyone else for that matter. We're all citizens. We're actually paying her salary. It's the problem of living in the middle of Trump territory with a Republican representative. They don't care, they don't have to. Apparently they're Christian in word only. There a DMV, they have records that access and they could easily access verify records that are in the system as killed the police, they could help but they choose not to. They pointed the sign that lists the required documents and snuggly and clearly with joy they like their power andPoints at the signs that list the "Acceptable" documents. And snuggly in to finally they just say "it's not. Me, I'm just following rules". It sounds a little bit like what you might expect to hear from Germany in the 1930s, "I'm just following orders". Welcome to fascist Trump America We're people could be nice and could help, but they won't be - they choose not to be, and sadly, they seem to enjoy it. They're a little slice of power and authority and control. Bordering on sadism.

I get nervous walking into post offices these days…read more Post office customer service in the Chicagoland area left a lot to be desired while living there for 4 years. So, so slow. There must be something in their union agreement about only being allowed to help 6 customers an hour. No urgency whatsoever. Today, I ventured to the post office in Savoy. Despite living in Champaign this location is closest to our new home. Walked in and there were only a couple of people in line. No biggy, as this gave me time to look at their greeting cards. They were helped as quickly as possible. Yay! I was just there to check-in a package that I already had postage on, so my transaction was easy peasy. Will most definitely be back; maybe just for greeting cards. They had a lot of fun ones.

I really have to mention her because she is one of the most beautiful people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. There is something about her that is so soothing. I'm almost sure it's her voice. She is not needlessly bubbly-- just genuinely a good soul. She is so kind, knowledgeable, and endlessly patient with students (sending snail mail is this campus' most arcane field). I have never once detected a note of irritation in her voice. She answers any all questions clearly. And she makes sure that the office is running without chaos. I'm contemplating sending needless mail because she always brightens my day. I always wonder about her friends and family because they are some lucky folk to have her in their lives. Definitely go here over the post office on Green.
