The place is within an easy walk to campus. The grounds look modern & attractive. Although the suite is large, the individual bedrooms are tiny, but at least they have their own private bathroom. Beware: your "security" funds are their piggy bank! When we moved my daughter out, the vaccuum cleaner wouldn't start; so, we had to leave her bedroom carpet unvaccuumed. Well, instead of charging us a reasonable sum to have that TINY piece of bedroom carpet vaccuumed/cleaned, they charged us $679.50 for "bedroom carpet replacement". However, when they mailed the bill, they did NOT include the receipt for this "replaced carpet"; therefore, how do I know that the carpet was truly "replaced" instead of merely vacuumed/steam-cleaned? I saw the low marks and decided I needed to write and say this. My daughter lived at University Edge for 2 years and if ever there was an issue it was addressed. I never had to worry about furnishing her apartment which was so nice. I can say she really enjoyed being a resident and today she had to move out since she graduated and come home. If your thinking about it just do it. Great place to live. read more

Horrible experience living here. Would've lived somewhere else in a heartbeat. First of all, workers will enter your apartment as they please whenever they want, "for maintenance" and just enter bedrooms as they please. As if someone couldn't be sleeping or in the shower. Insane. I live in the first building on the 4th floor and can hear everything. Cars outside, people talking outside, the garbage getting taken out, etc. The Management is horrible, I've had a problem with my front door for months now and have spoken to someone in charge multiple times and have received little to no help. Rent is ridiculously expensive and raises every year. Parking sucks as well as visitor parking with only 10 spots per building. The location of the apartments are very far from campus and town. The complex even offered us free pizza to write a good review for them on Facebook. You're better off living in a dumpy house than here. Would not recommend at all. read more

The location and the 4 bedroom apartments exceeded a parent's expectations especially as our child transitioned from Kent dorms. The staff was generally responsive and living there was easy for our student. We looked forward to renewing as she and a roommate planned to move to a 2 bedroom unit. In early Spring (April) we were informed that the roommate was no longer going to attend KSU. Do to this my child opted to commute from home as we are in the area. We spoke with the office about discontinuing the lease renew (That wouldn't begin until Aug.) We were advised that we would need to find someone to take over / sublease the agreement. There are no opt out provisions in the lease agreement, our mistake read the full agreement before signing. We were advised they would help with sublease paring as there was a waiting list (THERE IS NO WAITING LIST). We were referred to social media boards to find someone to take over the lease. We found 4 different parties that were interested. To do this those parties have to apply. Once they apply then they have to inform UE of their intent to sublease. Hurtle after hurtle - We were informed after presenting a subleaser and that individual applying that they couldn't sublease because they were the opposite sex from my child? What? This was months before the lease was to start, locations were not set and there was no other renter for the unit due to deployment. The office was slow to contact the other applicants causing them to select other options. We had 2 sisters both apply for the unit but they were informed that due to the sublease they would not be living together.... WHAT!?!?!? The people in the office were friendly, but someone new almost every time and no manger would make themselves available to elevate the matter. Lastly, with the fifth referral (all generated by us) we were able to secure the sublease with only 2 weeks before school began. With all that they still billed us roughly $360 to change the agreement. This practice is to create billable marketing and advertising. Be very aware of the in blood contract you are signing with this business. There are more ethical operators in this market. Good luck. read more

After living here for 2.5 years I can easily say it has gone downhill. When I first moved in the price seemed amazing for what you got however the upkeep and management are poor. The "year round" hot tub was closed at least 50% of the time with no explanation or communication, the parking lot had major dips and holes that needed to be repaired, the printer in the computer lab very rarely worked, and the trash was always overflowing. In addition to the facilities, there were several instances where I filed a noise complaint or the overwhelming smell of marijuana in my apartment and it was never followed up on. If you are planning on living on the 4th floor (top floor) you should also estimate an additional 20-40 dollars a month in utilities as they don't adjust your electric cap. I would have moved out if I hadn't already been settled in with my roommates and pet. While all complexes have their issues, I'm confident there are better options available. read more

I've lived here for 2 years and have more bad to say than good. The prices are INSANE for what you get. Everything looks so nice from the outside but in reality it's all super cheap. I hear Everything!!! My neighbors (all sides) shower, toilet, talking, laundry etc. and if you live in 1st building be prepared for tons of noise bc of the hottub. Only do top floor it eliminates a little noise. Hottub is always broken. The fire alarms went off so many times at 3am for over an hour each time and the complex didn't even know about it (I asked) and they didn't stop until I called the fire dept and they came to shut it off. Then there's the lease. If you want to stay for the next year you have to sign way early bc otherwise you won't have a spot (doesn't matter how long you've lived there) and then trying to sublease is borderline impossible. They claim to try to help you and then won't until they fill their other spots first. The furniture is so crappy that we never even used the living room. The only good things about this place is the mail room, gym, parking, and maintenance. My advise is to find somewhere else and don't waste your money here. read more

Absolutely the worst experience ever! My daughter lived here 2 separate years during her college years! I would never recommend this to any family! The checkout process is very sketchy and we were charged fees but there was absolutely no proof of the roommate checking out before us. I was literally in my hands and knees cleaning and the roommate and mother walked in and never did anything! The entire time the girls lived together my daughter emptied all trash and kept that apartment immaculate as she was raised! Your staff, as it turns out came into the apartment while I was cleaning but never introduced themselves to me and we came to find out that was their walkthrough with the roommate! Still no proof her keys were turned in! She was vindictive the entire year so I have every reason to believe that they came back in after our move out and did damage because when I tell you we left it on top notch condition I mean it! Poor customer service, poor lighting, poor responses by management! Funny because I have called several times and no call back! read more

Rent is ridiculously high. The office always closes earlier than they say they will. Which is hard for those of us who work to get our packages. They are very hard to get in touch with. I clean my toilet every week and there is always MOLD growing all around the inside of it by the end of the week. Everything inside the units are made cheaply and can break with a single touch. I have lived here for 4 months and since then, our washer, dryer, fridge, heat, front door lock, key to get in our front door, window locks, drains, outlets, toilet paper holders, and small other little things have broken or just stopped working. There is cold air seeping through all of our windows. Mold growing by our vents we have all been sick the whole time we've lived here. It's just a crappy place that overcharges the heck out of everyone. If they charge me for cleaning when I move out that's a bunch of bull because when I moved in there was dust everywhere, stains on my carpet, hair left over from the people before. It was disgusting. If I could've gotten out of this lease I would have. read more

University Edge; only the absolute finest! I cannot think of anywhere i would rather live, the only better solutions are maybe in a homeless shelter, perhaps under a bridge in Akron, my car, maybe under a staircase. Those are the only comparable places! The community is the utmost quality. Beer cans being thrown from the fourth floor balcony; landing on the grills and causing all residents to lose their privileges for several months, stolen computer lead to loss of access to the computer room. WHAT SPECIAL IS NEXT. Cannot wait. No matter how hard you try to sleep, there is always someone drunk or a Jehovah's witness always will to knock and say hi at 3am. Five of the residents have dogs, when the lease makes it very clear no dogs. The highlights are the girl on the fourth floor of building 3 5 side with the Siberian Husky who states it is a therapy dog but also told me roommate she was going to go do cocaine. They play with the dog so it is constantly running across the ceiling making constant noise. The same The other girl with the reddish husky lets her dog poop in the corn hole area in the middle of the building! Yay! My room is of the highest quality, SOME! JUST SOME! surprises include brown seepage that comes down the windows, doors that morph as temperature changes, and walls that are as strong as styrofoam. Our washing machine is our fifth roommate, no matter how little you put in it, it will become unbalances and start a dancing party. I looked up the model and the quality is less than bottom self, it is on the floor. You will get to know Weslee Daum-Smith and the Maintence people personally. They come ever other day to check on you. You will get more filters then you know what to do with. Make sure you hide anything that could remotely get in you trouble because they gladly report it and you get love letters the night of by security. Wesley is quite good at making sure that no matter the problem, it is your fault. You have a candle incase the power goes out or if you have a rusty door hinge. They will report it and you will get yelled at. Maybe if they did not design the building with exterior corridors then maybe the door wouldn't rust? Yet, you are responsible to wipe the doors and windows yourself (legally you don't FYI) The resident events are few and far between and if you go, you will not have a good time!. They offer luxury resort style amenities, these include the idea of free printing. The idea you ask, confused? Well the printer will let you print whatever you want on your own paper but then find out that there is no ink and you get barely readable printouts. This adds to the fun though since you can make out only half the words. It is a guess who of the years! The hot tub will be littered with broken glass and drunk people who don't even live there. It is the social gathering of the year whenever it is half decent outside. Got your own printer, better not be WIFI as that will go out randomly for a few days and they just tell you to call a number of people who don't know what is going on. This year we had it go out several times for days at a time and even when it was working it is really slow, so I hope you don't like gaming or Netflix. You get free parking, unless you lose your sticker than it is $150 parking and make sure you are the social deceived as there are a handful of parking spaces for visitors and when it snows, 1/5 of the guest parking becomes a snow pile and parking anywhere else means you will get towed. Cannot sleep, don't worry neither can anybody else. Parties every night somewhere and they like to yell across the courtyards to the other sides of the building, the ceilings are very thin and you hear everything, and there will be somebody knocking on your door regardless of the night. The people that live here don't take classes, just the barely passers who drink every night. Call security, but they don't do anything and then call the city of Kent police and get told by the UE people to call them not the Kent City Police. I still just called the police they actually do stuff. In all seriousness, it is close to campus but i would rather get mad cow disease than live here again and make sure you have Student Legal Services/Legal Counsel present at your lease signing since they will bring up that lease 100x and they will increase your rent and then have you sign new paper work without telling you that your rent is increasing and when you go to talk to them; they feel offended that you are calling them liars. I lived here for two years and I would NEVER live here again or recommend this dump. read more

This is the worst apartment complex. They have about 10 visiting parking spots for every building and when all of the spots are full and people have no where to park, their car gets towed and the awful towing company wants two hundred dollars for it. I do not recommend to anyone, not even a rat. Not even worth typing a whole lot but please if you're a college student, save your money and go somewhere else. There are plenty of other places better and cheaper. If you want to be scammed while living there and also after you're gone, go ahead. Also if you enjoy getting walked in on by maintenance every other week while you're basically naked because they don't care to knock, this is the place. The rooms are terrible and tiny for almost $800 every month with terrible air quality (coming from someone who has multiple plants) and stink bugs all over the first building :) read more

I reviewed previously but to add to my last review. If you are looking into living at University Edge there is a few things you should know. First, let's start with the model room that they show you because you are not allowed to look at your actual rental space. The model room is a catfish. It looks luxurious and spacious but the actual apartments are dirty, malfunctioning, outdated, and small. If you are looking for management that will resolve issues and work kindly and fairly for you, University Edge is the complete opposite of that. Their maintenance and management are some of the rudest and unhelpful people i have ever met in my life. If you are looking to live here for the use of the hot tub and other amentities, please know that they are closed more than they are even open. I have used the hot tub maybe 5 times since living here for a year. PLEASE TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. They will scam you for random fees and "utilities" that appear to be included when really you are the one paying them on top of their outrageous rent. Prepare for anyone to enter your space at any random week or time because they have maintence enter your apartment almost every single month to do "checks" on the apartment. Also, good luck taking out your trash consistently if you live in the first or second building!!! What they don't tell you is that the only trash compactor is behind the last building and yes if you live in the first two, you will have to put your disgusting trash in your car and drive it down to the compactor because of how far away it is. After 8 pm, there is a third party security company that monitors the place and management does not communicate what is going on at the property to them so you will be harassed for simple activities such as sitting at a dinner table outside when the hot tub is "closed for maintenance". There are SO MANY other good places to rent in Kent, Ohio with reasonable rent and management that generally cares about their tenants and students, I advise you to look elsewhere. read more

University Edge is the best apartment in Kent Ohio! The staff and maintenance team are great! The location is awesome, I only have a 15 minute walk to my classes! The gym is open 24/7 and is such a great convenience when I have classes and work all day! The kitchen is beautiful and has so much room! I also love how we have a washer and dryer which really helps me save money so I don't have to go to a Laundromat!! I was placed with great roommates and we always have so much fun decorating our apartment and hanging out watching TV shows!! My room is a great size too, I was able to fit more furniture in it than what is provided! My favorite part of all is I get my own bathroom to myself! Its huge too! I definitely picked the best place to live in Kent! read more

I lived there last year! The rent is not worth what you are getting. You will go over on electric even if you live like a caveman. After you move out you will get a great bill saying you left everything in the apartment dirty even though you cleaned it before you left. For example $20 for a "dirty lint trap" or $15 for a "dusty coffee table". This is NOT the best university community. I served active duty in the air force and am now in the reserves. I am the complete opposite of dirty. I kept everything perfectly clean. This place is a joke! Let's not mention the non stop noise. The damage to cars is outrageous! read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT LIVE HERE. If I could give it less than one star I would. It is overpriced for what you get. You're paying for how close it is to campus and it's really not worth it. There are much nicer and cheaper places to live near campus than this place. When you move out, they will charge you for every little thing including anything they have to clean. If you have a car please consider living somewhere else that might be a little farther from campus. I'd rather make a commute than live here. It's not worth the price and they WILL screw you over. It's awful if you have a pet and they are very inconsiderate about your time. Maintenance will come into your apartment at anytime with barely any notice. The walls are super thin so you hear people when they are just talking at a normal volume. You can also hear people through the floor and ceiling. I called security on a party that was happening super late at night (about 4am) while I was trying to sleep because I had to be up early for work and they did nothing. I was able to hear when security showed up to the door, but the party continued once they left. Honestly, I would rather live in a dorm than in this place and it's probably more cost effective. They will squeeze every last penny they can out of you. Once again, I repeat, DO NOT LIVE IN THIS PLACE!!!! Most of the good reviews left here are either from non-residents that have just looked at the pictures, guarantors, parents of residents, people that work for the building, or people that are being paid to say nice things. Biggest joke of a place ever. Got a new car, let the office know, didn't get a blue sticker... Guess what happened? Towed!!! $100 later and 3 hours late to work, I now have my new car back. Who tows a car with temporary plates??!?!? The "security" guards are the biggest joke. They can maybe guard a box of donuts. Need I also mention that you hear EVERYTHING from inside of your complex. The place is a complete joke. Management staff and their helpers are trained to deflect and deceive as much as possible. My Daughter was one of the lucky ones. She found someone to take over her spot for this upcoming year. Oh, it will cost me $250.00, and we found the person, not the Management team. So, I'm kind of confused as to what that fee is for, since we did all the work. Anyway, We all, including the parents and students, need to bombard the administration with these facts and figures. The administration is who left this company come and build on Kent campus. That would make them just as responsible as University Edge and it's, so called, staff. I am pretty convinced that Ms. Weslee Daum-Smith is paid a pretty good salary and her bonus is based off of fee's and fines. read more

Horrible management. They harass you beyond belief when your payment is late after their system is incapable of processing the payment. Spent hours trying to get the account working and when I told the manager I'm not able to return her calls during working hours because my job does not allow us she said everyone has a job and manages to do other things too because she felt I wasn't answering her quickly enough. Yet I tried calling and emailing their service desk prior to her harassment and there was zero response. Scammers just trying to tack on fees upon fees . Suggested that my daughter should physically take the money to them over the summer when we live in another state because their own debit system does not function but no one cares enough to fix the problem. Was charged an extra $40 to use their useless convenience system. Was told if I didn't like their convenience system with all the extra fees (because they are incapable of getting the debit system to work) I don't need to use it. Total incompetence! read more

Think twice before moving in here. They give you a $30.00 utility cap. I was told that would be sufficient. My son and his roommates have kept their heat at 66 all winter. I feel terrible for them because they all go to school and have jobs. Only to get an extra $45.00-$60.00 extra fee for the electric bill every month! They rip these kids off. Can't even give one star. My son complained most of the year about no internet service. Sports kids that traveled most of the Spring season yet still were charged extra for utilities they didn't use. Don't expect to get your security deposit. Expect a bill for the most ridiculous items. $15 for one tape mark in bedrooms that you didn't live in. This is a racket that happens on all college campus housing and it needs to stop. Students can barely afford school, most depend on their security deposit to move into their next apartment. Charge kids for holes in walls or damages that need fixing not items that will be taken care of with 30min of a house cleaning service. Shame on you University Edge. I would hope every apartment would be cleaned after kids move out. I would hope this would be standard practice. There are ten small items in my sons list that he was charged $175 for including dust on a nightstand. Multiply that times 3 for every kid in the apartment. $525 for a light clean of an apartment? Maintenance is subpar and lacks knowledge. Apartments have mold in them and many units are saturated with moisture. Maintenance tells the tenants it is because the buildings were constructed poorly. Management charges "lease violations" for the most ridiculous things that they tend to make up. Electricity costs are very high. Each person gets a $30.00 credit per month but since EVERYTHING in the units are run by electricity, and since the buildings are not insulated, the costs to heat and cool the units is crazy high. They do not offer all of the amenities that they put on their website. Their 24-hour emergency number is a joke. I placed a call in August and still have not received a response. You only get to leave a voicemail. There is no human being after 4:30. I was told when I moved in that they had security until 6:30 a.m. Not true. Yes the units are cute when you first look at them but beware and make sure you know what your options are. I would not recommend these apartments and parents need to beware. read more

Do NOT do business with these people. Avoid at all costs! They lie through their teeth to get you to sign a lease, and then stop caring immediately. The property and apartments are filthy and uninhabitable. There is trash everywhere and they don't clean the apartments between tenants. They rushed to build the property so it was made really poorly. The appliances are cheap and defective. Maintenance will come around constantly without telling you in advance so you just have them barging in. There are obnoxiously loud drunk people everywhere, and security does nothing. There was vandalism on multiple occasions and security saw it, but didn't stop it. You have to call the police just to handle simple problems. Management doesn't care at all. And the parent company American Campus Communities does nothing either. They don't even return phone calls and they do nothing to fix anything. The employees are college students and have no idea what they're doing. They will literally screw up simple business operations. They're rude and treat you like you're stupid. They claim to be pet-free but there are barking dogs everywhere and they do nothing. They have so many tenants trying to sublet that they can't even get them all done. Just look at their Facebook page; all of their posts are people trying to sublet. You'd be better off living in your car than here! Even a more expensive apartment is worth it because this place is so bad. read more
