Graduating UTI was the greatest decision I made and has impacted my life entirely. The Auto program to an MSAT. Highly recommend.

My son graduated from UTI last year and has had a lot of trouble finding a job in the field he "trained" for. UTI advertises job placement assistance but as one poster said, it could be at Taco Bell, Walmart or whatever. That's the old "bait and switch" method. For what they charge for tuition, they should have agreements with multiple auto shops to hire their students in some type of apprentice capacity. They don't care though. Current student. The teachers are helpful and have been good at helping us even though Covid 19 makes it difficult. Do your I-cars online do your objectives worksheets and study for test and you will do fine. The money to pay here is better invested in starting your tools and going to community college. The student housing office the staff is a joke all they want is your money, Collegiate Housing Services. Most teachers do teach well but is it worth the money no not at all. You get better education from community college and save thousands of dollars that can go towards tools which are needed to enter the auto industry. My boyfriend has been attending UTI for about six months now. OH MY GOD! I went to Sierra college in Rocklin and I didn't have a single issue with campus staff, employment services, housing assistance, or financial aid. It has been the exact opposite for him. He hasn't been able to get a hold of anyone with employment services or housing assistance and he's been emailing and going in at least 3-4 times A WEEK FOR MONTHS and no one is ever there and other students in his class are having the same issue. Not to mention the "Student Advisors" my boyfriends assigned advisor is not helpful AT ALL! Instead of helping him with his issues and concerns she tells him; "figure it out yourself" or "you're on your own kid" or even recommends for him to DROP OUT cause we're struggling Financially and can barely afford gas to get to the campus! Universal TECHNICAL institute does not keep up with their tech at all. My boyfriend recently got one of his courses online (with no help from the advisor) and he got all of week 1&2 assignments done and their site glitched and poof, all his hard work gone. And once again the staff just told him to "figure it out" and/or "just redo it". So we listened, hunkered down, and did three weeks of work in two days! Just for them to FAIL him anyways. Then his advisor and the education director denied telling him to just suck it up and redo it!! BULLSHIT!! On top of it he is a diesel mechanics major and hasn't even had a course on diesels yet!! This school does not support veterans and should not be a VA approved school. They do not support my disabilities in any way, they say they're preparing us for the real world of automotive collision repair but they don't. It's one of the worst curriculum I've ever seen. They say it's 80% lab and 20% classroom but it's definitely the opposite. They literally just want your money. This place is not worth the $40,000 tuition. read more

My husband, wanting a better future for his family, went to this school and graduated recently. He passed his classes, he did well in school, he genuinely enjoyed working with cars. He graduated and he was so proud, as was I. He found a job in the industry and seven months down the line he finds out that while his employers think he is good at what he does, he isn't keeping up with the speed needed in a fast work pace environment. So yes, they teach you what you need to know, but that doesn't mean you will thrive once you graduate. This speed/skill will come with time and practice, but unfortunately the shops/employers want someone who already knows what they are doing and won't give you that time to get better. Recruiters don't reach out to students so students miss important deadlines, emails somehow never get delivered or delivered on time even when the student has proof of sending them in a timely manner, students are getting suspended because whoever is in charge takes multiple days to follow up IF they follow up at all about missing paperwork. even tho the student can provide proof of being independent and doing things in a timely manner on their own??? So it's obviously the schools fault because there's nothing more to do on our end?? THEN they charge you a suspension fee on top of that, for THEIR mistake and willful ignorance. They're hoping students don't care about their education so they can keep taking advantage. Please do not go to this school. Save your money, do some research. The lack of communication and support is astounding. This school shouldn't even be open. read more

I went to UTI Avondale back from 2/09 to 3/11. The price of the school is too extreme unless you get a job in the field immediately to pay back the student loans. Because I could never get a job in the field and this school maxing my grant capacity and loan capacity, I'm now having to pay totally out of my pocket by panhandling for another degree. I know there was no guarantee of a job unless you were in an MSAT program, but I will never recommend this school to anyone that may want to go. It's education is no different than a good community college program. Don't bother thinking it's better than any other school. Just an overpriced institution and if I was able to get the student loans from this place off my back, I would be ecstatic. All this education just to work on my own car wasn't worth the amount of student loan debt I have from this place. read more

I attended UTI Sacramento from 2/2008-3/2009 so this review is long over due.Through out high school I goofed off and failed,i was even held back and had to redo my senior year.i had to take 0 period and night school just to be able to gradate a year late and avoid having to do adult school for a g.e.d., fortunately I had shop class which was the only class I cared about because cars and thats where I met the local uti recruiter.he wouldn't let me sign up with out first seeing the campus,so we took a trip on a Saturday and I feel in love with the campus,it had cars every where,torn apart engines and tools!i was hooked!i couldn't sign up quick enough,I worked through the summer and fall after graduating high school to save up some money and be ready to move in January and start in February. i didn't go through student housing when moving,I had a cousin that lived in the area and recommended a nice apartment complex.A child hood friend who also was going to attend Uti and I moved into river pointe apartments in natomas off of Garden highway.it was a nice and affordable apartment in a nice area and close to the school.so I moved in a month before I started to look for jobs while my roommate waited to move in the weekend before school started.right away I went to the employment department and got some leads,unfortunately no shop or automotive companies would hire me because lack of automotive experience.i was a little discouraged that I wouldn't be able to put what I learned to work and prove to myself I can do it.but one day I got a call for a lead from the employment lady and went out right away in the middle of a storm.it was a job fixing lawn mowers for Sears,it wasn't automotive but it was a job and I got it within a week of moving to Sacramento.eventually by June that job got slow but the experiance got me hired at a Sears outlet store repairing appliances which I held to the last day before graduating Uti. Once I got started taking classes I knew I was made to be there,I first started in the afternoon classes,and at times was hard to stay focused with working in the morning and all.but the three week courses were good at doing hands on to in class balancing.some courses not so much but that's because there's only so much hands on work you can do,and some systems are more complex.The testing wasn't very hard to pass,pay attention in class,study the books,and do the hands on work sheets then the tests will be easy to pass.the instructors were across the board,there were the great ones,ok ones,and 2-3 that were known to be bad instructors that eventually were phased out.the only real bad part were the students on mom and dads dime,goofing off and disrupting class most still stuck in high school since they just came out,Just do your best to ignore them.i was never bothered by finance or accounting,I had federal student loans to cover the costs so I never had a problem.i even took out a living expenses loan to help live,this was in the mist of the rising recession when a gallon of milk was $6 and a gallon of gas was $4.80. I only missed one day of school because of jury duty,and was late only twice.i ended up taking automotive with ford fact.the ford program classes were at the end,and I enjoyed and learned the most from them by far compared to the base automotive program.it got me 70% factory certified with ford and was worth every penny.in my last final weeks I was able to apply to other manufacturers programs,most I didn't qualify for because I didn't have the minimum employment experience.but I did qualify for Audi and had two interviews with the rep and recruiting manager,unfortunately the recession started to get worse and Audi was forced to stop accepting students and not much longer stopped the Audi msat.but before Audi declined me they referred me to the VW recruiting manager,had an interview and was informed Vw was about to do the same as Audi and only had a hand full of open seats and he would have to get back to me.well the end drew near and I heard nothing from VW,so I went to employment services and they gave me a lead to a ford dealer close to my home town.got an interview the next day and as soon as I said I was ford certified and about to be powerstroke diesel certified I was hired on the spot two weeks before graduating and started at the dealer the Monday after graduating at $18 flat rate and away I went.all this was in the height of the recession of 2008-2009! I've been working in the field since then and never been with out a job,almost on ten years now and I'm a ford gas and diesel sinor master tech.also in September ford is recognizing and rewarding 200 of their best techs,which I am one of and will be getting flown out to Dearborn Michigan for a three night stay to see behind the scenes of production and service as a reward. Uti is a great foundation to a serious career as a technician,do not go and take base auto.invest in a manufacturer program or diesel and work hard. read more

Both of my Sons are currently attending UTI's Sacramento Campus. One is in the Diesel/auto side and the other is in Collision repair side. Both have become highly motivated since going to UTI. Their Grades are higher than ever. One will be graduating in the very near term. As Parents we are very happy with UTI. read more

I just spent 3 hours watching students install a distributor ONE student AT A TIME. Now I'm just sitting here in class.. for 45 minutes.. just waiting.... I drove 1 hour to get here just to sit in a cold class room and wait to be allowed to leave. This is a common scenario. YOU WILL WASTE MORE TIME HERE THAN YOU THINK, and the education you receive BARELY make up for it. In my last two days of the Steering and Suspension course, we spent the majority of our class time playing Forza on an instructor's Xbox! Nothing to do in class? Well then I should just go home, right? NOPE, you'll be PENALIZED for leaving early, which will reflect on your overall grade. And if you fail the course? YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM EVEN MORE MONEY! I paid 15,000+ for this experience.... SAVE YOUR MONEY! DONT GO HERE! SPEND YOUR TIME MAKING MONEY, DONT PAY TO WASTE YOUR TIME FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S POCKET! Over priced fraternity. At first sounded ideal with strict structure and rules and helpful staff, but once they have your money you are stuck. Must pay tuition even if you choose to leave. If you are sexually harassed you are told to suck it up and take it. You can show up drunk or high and still continue despite their claim. A lot of people invest money in materialistic things like buying a brand new Mercedes or BMW before investing in their education. Before graduating at UTI I received zero interest from dealerships they wanted people with technical training, ASEs or someone with a smog license. I graduated in 2014 in a year and a couple months with TPAT, 9 ASEs, and a smog license, within 1 week with the help of UTI job placement dept I received 2 interviews from pepboys, and carmax. Yeah it's TRUE some of the teachers are crap, but there are also a lot of good ones with a lot of information that are willing to answer any question at a drop of a dime. With everything in life you get what you put in. I landed in Toyota then moved up into Lexus, tpat program bypassed years of waiting to be sent to technical classes by dealership. Now I'm on track to get an associate's degree in automotive technology, using my transcript from UTI to test out of certain automotive classes. I have now a good solid paying career. Point is it's a good investment if you put in your best effort, don't waste time, get all 8 ASEs and throw that extra 5k and get a smog license in 6-9weeks(community college takes about a year for smog and it takes another 2 years for associates in auto). My first job started me out at 24$ flat rate and UTI gave me 10 years to pay off loans, pausing payments whenever I need to. California law for techs that provide and buy their own tools is double minimum wage, so as long as min wage keeps going up... we keep getting more $$$. UTI paved the way for my career, I'm very happy with my investment. read more

Please don't waste your money! Students graduate every 3 weeks. The majority of my friends and I did not get any help fromt he "career center" and definitely not a job. I graduated with almost all A's and with two "Student of the Course" awards and still have not found a job, despite trying very hard. The school is WASTE of money and they're all sales people and accept EVERYONE who walks in their door. Most of my friends have gone back to the job they were doing before they started school. The school claims 97% job placement, yea but that includes if you get a job at Burger King or Autozone, not necesarily the field you studied for. Please think hard before you waste your money at this school. read more

UTI program is great and my son really likes it there. My complaints is the housing department. They have moved my son and lots of other students around several times in the first semester causing them to pay hundreds of dollars in minor damages such as small stains on carpet etc. I don't know if each are getting charged or just my son, if all getting charged then they're profiting from moving them around frequently and finally they get moved into the ghetto area where drug heads roam freely. read more

Do not work in the financial aid deparment. They have a high turn over rate and out dated system. They do not know what they are doing! This school is not for everybody. people say "they didn't find me a job" or "they are only here to take your money" are correct they are a business they provide a service. that is to give you information and the tools to get into the field. (sorry this kinda turned into a rant) most of the staff is over worked and running to help as many students as they can. it helps to check in with them and pull your own line. and just cause u waited till 2 days after the deadline to hand in your paper work doesn't mean they have to help. a lot of them will however bend over backwards to help anyone...as long as they help themselves I started off as Auto/Diesel, I wanted to learn more about my cars to work on them as well as go to work for a Diesel company (pay is better). on day one when we were asked what we wanted to do upon completion of our time at UTI I had to laugh. 1/3 of the guys said "I'm going to open my own shop" or "going to be a master tech at some dealer ship". my response was " I want to be able to provide for my family" now most of the kids in the school range from just out of high school to 3 to 4 years out of high school. and think that they will be ripping engines out of cars and tuning hot rods the whole time. this is not what you will be doing. yes there is fun classes like Hot Rod and Super Street but they are just that for fun. and a lot of the kids feel like they are should be given everything and not have to think about it. some teachers just roll over and give in cause its easier to just let them scrape by and not have to deal with the kids. and I have seen that most of the people who are complaining about I cant find a job are the mid range C students that put forth the minimal requirements. and that gives the rest a bad name cause then they run out find a job and say I went to UTI boss says ok lets see how you can handle yourself. they flop on there face cause they either didn't pay attention or was just handed the answer either by the teacher or copying of a friend and learned nothing so they get fired next comes the student that has 3.6 to 4.0 gpa and looking for work boss looks and sees UTI and recalls the last guy who he had and passes cause he doesn't want a repeat. like I said I started Auto/Diesel I added Smog, and Ford Fact (upon my own Choices) managed to line up a job ( ON MY OWN ) 3 weeks before leaving school. when I started I realized I was in way over my head. gave in my best and finally noticing I was doing more harm then good I informed the owner he needs someone with more knowledge then I had. looked for work for about 3 weeks (when I say looked for work I mean I was up at 6am drove out to places and LOOKED, I didn't just put in online apps and hope they got read) I managed to land a walk in interview at a Lithia Dealership. I just hit my 2 year mark at a Lube Tech and my boss pulled me aside and offered to send me back to school at UTI to attend the Tten classes, upon completion I would be moved into the shop. does UTI cost a lot of money- yes is it worth it - yes - If you put in the effort and not just expect them to hand you a job on a plate read more

I I've seen quite a few negative reviews for the school, but it seems that most of them stem from not being able to find a job post-graduation, rather than the actual quality of the school. Just like any vocational school, nursing, vet tech, medical assisting, job competition is fierce particularly as an entry-level candidate. Discrediting the school because of an inability to find a job does not mean got the actual teaching and institution is inadequate. I have been to this campus many times and the facility is prime, much of the staff is helpful and at least kind, and if you dedicate yourself to your work you can get in and out knowing a lot more than you did when you started. Overall I would recommend this school for anyone trying to gain experience and knowledge on Automotive specialties, but this is not a magic wand and does not guarantee you a job immediately after graduation. Horrible school. Allows students to be treated like shit by CHS and does nothing to assist. I met with both the student services director and the president and neither did anything. On top of that the financial aid program is garbage and doesn't help what so ever. The teachers are somewhat okay but I think it's what you dig into and find out rather then them. This schools Sacramento CA campus is crap. My boyfriend failed a class because the teacher did nothing but talk with a mouth full of chewing tobacco, and we all know how hard it is to try and understand someone when they have food in their mouth its the same thing just with tobacco and wasn't even teaching the class with the books assigned so when he went to the tutors it was like he was learning two different classes, he has 3 weeks of school left he is in his last phase and I get a call from him today telling me that he needs 250 dollars by Monday or he can't graduate. The school decides to tell him that now, he sent in a letter 1 month ago but he has been dealing with this situation for 4 months and a month ago he is told he needs to write a letter so we write one and now he is told he needs to pay for the class. what kind of crap is this. It isn't his fault he couldn't understand the teacher and he failed him because the idiot couldn't keep his mouth empty during class and this place is supposed to be drug and tobacco free for students and facility. read more
