Stayed here September of 07'. Twice. WTH?!? Yeah some allergic reaction mixed with something viral; made my throat close up and could barely breathe; nearly passed out. Long story short; the nurses are zero supreme (Number 1) and my private room was bangin'! They actually listened to me when I told them I have "hidden veins" and a butterfly needle would suit me. My beau, parents and daughter all came to visit and also were pleased at my accommodations. God forbid something else unfortunate should happen to me, but if it does, Meriter is my hospital. Thanks!

Had a large and efficient team in the OR during c-section. I felt well informed: Made certain I knew I had choices every step of the way. Made sure I knew why certain procedures or medications were recommended. I was going to give them 4 stars but they put it in my hands after having a bunch of serious medical issues did I think I was healthy enough to go home. I probably should have stayed in patient a few more days I wound up with serious issues the next 4 days and lingering troubles the next few weeks. Had some outstanding practitioners in the NICU, and some not so great. One nurse said we wouldn't be holding our babies one day, but they still needed to change them and burp them. She exclaimed they had troubles breathing in the night and it was because we had done something the day before. When the night nurse came on she said the babies hadn't struggled at all for her the previous night so she wasn't sure why the other nurse tried to keep us from holding the babies. I had already asked for the nurse who tried to prevent our babies from receiving our comfort to be removed from our care team. Another time a physical therapist informed me she wanted them to gavage/tube feed and not attempt to nurse when I was only attempting to nurse once or twice a day. The doctor and nurse case manager said i should be able to nurse this time nothing indicated i shouldn't. It was recommended we move up stairs "our babies were doing so well" and "they would have the same ratio of care givers & it would be as easy to access the doctors" The first night in the pediatric unit one of our preemies was in the 80's for oxygen saturation for the longest time. They told us they were going to put her back on the oxygen the doctor said it might be needed. When we returned in the morning her oxygen was still in the 80's and they hadn't put her on oxygen or contacted the doctor. When he made his rounds he asked how long she had been like that I said since last night, 12 hours prior & the staff had informed me they were going to put her back on oxygen. Nobody had . He had them place her on oxygen immediately. One nurse filled the baby bath to my preemie's chin. I told her that was dangerously high and she should take some out. She did not take any water out and she said different people do it differently. She wanted me to wash the baby & try to keep the head out of the dangerously full bath and she wasn't helping at all. Honestly the hospital was so understaffed and there were a handful of good nurses but the few incompetent ones make the entire experience overwhelmingly frustrating.

Two years ago three members of our family were given a new diagnosis that required some navigating of the health care system (laws, paperwork, additional appts, etc.) The staff at this facility is often unhelpful in aiding us with questions or navigating our care plan. They do not help patients understand processes, guidelines or care schedule. We've had lost paperwork, missed medications, and more. I've mentioned before that I do not understand our care plan, but no one offers to help talk through it or kindly and patiently explain things to me. I'm often met with curt responses and just dead-end "good luck with that" kind of attitude. I feel that the staff finds me difficult. Im sure. But I'm a mother advocating for my child, and when my healthcare team is not helping me help my child then I will continue to advocate for them. I don't think it's too much to ask for people to tell us if things are coming up due. I understand the staff have limitations and guidelines to follow. However, if you're the type of person looking for healthcare team who are ON YOUR SIDE, who advocate and look out for you, then this is not the facility for you. I've called the patient complaint department before and unfortunately not had any resolution. Another message left today. We will see.

Between my three kids we've been in 3 different children's hospitals and a non-pediatric one. Parking: you get a ticket for your vehicle. While it's a quite simple process it wasn't explained to me and the ticket machine wasn't very helpful in terms of "how to use." My teenager laughed at me when I fumbled and then finally used the call button for a kind soul to explain it to me. After that it made sense. I found my spot easily, it was also easy to follow the doors to the elevator and the floor I needed. Parking is validated so you don't need to pay if you have an appointment. Check in was smooth, luckily I had already filled out the new patient forms. I loved the decor and waiting rooms even though we didn't spend any time there as I didn't arrive early like I wanted to. Staff was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, my son's lab was taken in the office, so we didn't need to trudge anywhere else. The room we were in had a fun barnyard theme which my 5 year old adored. In comparison to the other hospitals this was a great experience. Quick, efficient, knowledgeable, the staff was friendly as well. I was very pleased and also set up our next two appointments while we were there.

Well can you guess what they want to "sell" every patient...... yep that's right, they are pushing stimulators like they use to push opioids. YIKES! This is exactly why I left the last pain clinic. Unfortunately, upon their arrival, these assurances were not honored, which negatively impacted care. Specifically: Information Sharing: We were not allowed to share critical medical information upon arrival despite its relevance to treatment and being told to do so by other medical professionals. Communication with the Treating Physician: Despite repeated requests over several days, we were consistently denied access to the treating physician. On Day 1, we requested to speak with the physician and were told they were too busy but might contact us later. This did not happen. On Days 2 and 3, similar requests were met with excuses, delays, and vague assurances. Eventually, we were told that the treating physician would not have contact with us because this was a HIPPA violation. This claim is incorrect, as HIPAA explicitly permits family members to share information with healthcare providers. It was not until late on the third day, after pleading, working with the patient advocate for over 24 hours, and expressing the possibility of the patient checking themselves out, that we were granted a brief meeting at the close of business. The meeting was very limited and still did not address basic questions that we had. The lack of communication and transparency severely compromised patient care. As their family/care team, we coordinate and support their aftercare, and the lack of collaboration from the treating physician undermined this process. With a release of information (ROI) in place, the refusal to engage with us appears not only unprofessional but unethical, immoral and possibly illegal. Medical Needs: We were informed that their ongoing medication needs could not be addressed, with the implication that they could "just get by" without them. These are only the 'highlights' of the failures. The list, unfortunately, is much more exhaustive. This experience was deeply troubling, and we remain appalled by the lack of accountability and transparency from UnityPoint Meriter in Madison, WI. To date, we have not received any explanation for this behavior, which raises concerns about whether such practices are routine in their inpatient unit.
