Its a charity....there you go then.
The Unity Enterprise is a community based charity that offers people with learning difficulties the opportunity to gain skills and confidence through work. Up until a few years ago this was done in this location via a travel centre, which in all honesty looked a little drab and grotty as i remember, however has now been changed into a wee cafe/coffee house.
Now i've been in a few of these places before and, despite the good cause and the sentiments behind it, the cafe themselves tend to be a little on the school canteen side ie lacking in professionalism and well, soul. This place however is pretty dam nice. from the eclectic mix of old furniture, cool retro bits and bobs and a very nice menu of cafe type snacks, to the general laid back vibe, this cafe is a cafe first and a community initiative second.
I would definitely recommend a visit to this wee joint. Its a nice place to sit and grab a coffee (even better if you can snaffle one of the couches) and some cake and have a blether or read a book. Add to this a knowledge that your making a contribution to a worthwhile charity and you can enjoy your fairtrade coffee that little bit more! read more
