Even though I live over 20 blocks away, I make the trip because this place truly has everything you could need. I recently moved to the area and needed supplies for my new apartment. I'm typically an Amazon shopper but have been trying to scale that back to support local shops instead. I was very pleased to see they had things that were cheaper than Amazon! In fact, a Closetmaid shelf I bought was nearly half the price as what I saw online. I love hardware stores, the old-fashion mom and pops reaching back to yesteryear when the hardware store was a place to congregate. True Value in Bayridge is a 2nd, possibly 3rd generation locally run shop. They have everything from general hardware supplies to an amazing array of kitchen wares and garden items. I'll never forget the time I walked into this shop, oh decades ago when the elder gentleman sold me a small brown bag of nails. The total price was probably less than a dollar but he treated me as if I were a customer buying hundreds of dollars of goods. Buy local. read more

I love this place. besides having hardware, they have other appliances, so it's like a local "Home Depot". But what I love best, is that if you can't find what you need, someone will take the time to help you find what you REALLY need, not like the OTHER 3rd ave hardware store that just puts anything in your hands to sell you SOMETHING. And if they don't have it in stock, they will order it for you. I was there recently looking for the rubber band for my vacuum, one of the gentlemen, spent 15 minutes helping find the one that matched the closest. The band only cost 2 dollars!!! Staff is very knowledgable about all available products and can always help guide you in the right direction. Depending on who's there, however, it can sometimes be hard to track staff down for help. Their prices range from moderate to expensive, depending on what you're looking to buy and what quality. Every time I've gone so far I've had a really good experience and have always found everything that I needed. I would recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood, they also have a lot of little odds and ends here in the back left side of the store. read more

I have had nothing but great help from these guys. They really do go out of their way to make sure I get the right thing. Whether they are looking for a cheap or an expensive item, it does't matter; they all equally. A couple of years ago I had to get door hinge oil lubricant and I picked one and took it to the cashier when they stopped me and advised me of a better one that accumulates no residue. Difference in price was pennies.!. They didn't have to do that. They could have just gotten rid of other inventory. I applied the lubricant and a year later I actually noticed the difference between hinges that were lubricated with the new stuff vs.others. They ones with the new lubricant was CLEAN! I stopped in knowing what I needed, but had no idea what it was called. Someone greeted me as soon as I entered and helped me find exactly what I was looking for, and provided other options as well. Several months later, I called to see about a tool to give as a gift to someone who lives in Brooklyn (I live in Texas), and they were just as helpful on the phone. I bought what I needed, had someone pick it up for me, and I was done! These guys provide a level of personalized service you rarely find anymore! I will go to them for as much as I can! I could have ordered something on-line from one of the big box stores, but I remembered how great this store was to do business with. Stores like that should be rewarded by giving them repeat business. So, I hunted down their information, called them from Texas, and bought my gift there!
