Wandered into Oasis Deli & Grocery the other day looking for someone to make me a decent sandwich…read moreto take back to my office. I had been in this strip center several times eating at China Wok and Sabrina's restaurants, but had not even noticed that Oasis was right next to Sabrina's. When hungry, I can be rather myopic. So, in I went. Looking around the shop was sparsely inventoried, especially compared to some of the other "delis" in the area that try to offer everything you could possibly want, from macaroni salad to chewing 'bacci. Frankly, I don't really see the grocery side of the business being anything more than a poor man's Seven Eleven. But, the Honey Turkey and Swiss Hoagie they threw together for me was astounding considering what they had to work with. The deli refrigeration unit had only D & W products, and only a small amount of each. I asked for Lettuce, Sweet Peppers and a little Mayo, and I watched as a head of iceberg came out and was sliced fresh and put into the long roll. Then, Sandwich Man pulled out a large plastic jar of Red Sweet Peppers, and with his gloved hand reached in and extracted a huge handful of bright Reds and spread them out across the face of the creation. Slices of Swiss on top and bottom finished his opus, and I watched him bind, wrap and seal the submarine tightly before bagging it. Upon opening at my desk, I beheld a Manwich. It was a beautiful job dressed in a superior and textured long roll, with all the innards barely contained within. And, it was very good. While I entered thinking that this strangely named deli might be more of a deserted atoll, I sat happily corrected with a sandwich large enough for 2 lunches. This was truly an Oasis where a life sustaining submarine could come to your rescue.

Thankfully, I was correct - this store was infinitely better! Lots of bargains to be had. Lots of things that look like bargains but the packaging or quantity is just smaller. You have to be sharp wandering the aisles but that's what makes it fun. They have brand names and generics. The best part is that the stuff you do ostensibly recognize is slightly...off. Like it's a flavor that you haven't seen here in the states but you know the item. Check out the picture of my haul, por ejemplo. We all know Manwich tomato sauce in the can but have you ever heard of BBQ Bourbon flavor?? Well they have it in Mexico and it has made its way to Trenton. Also my apple fritters were in a container labeled pumpkin donuts lololol. If you can get past the idiosyncrasies, you'll enjoy it here and save money!
