My husband and I first walked into the Richmond Hall and instantly fell on love. The high vaulted ceilings, extravagant chandeliers, and the long flowing drapes in the background blew us away. Can't forget to mention the newly renovated cocktail room downstairs which gave a more modern, rustic feel and a change of atmosphere for our guests. Lauren was very helpful throughout the planning process and was very timely and helpful with any of our questions and needs. Our maître d, Beverly, was outstanding the day of the wedding. She was on top of everything and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the night. We cannot thank her enough for the efforts of her and her staff, as they made the 2 years of planning feel effortless. Our guests raved about their total experience. The valet parking, delicious food, timely drinks and our late night cheesesteaks were extraordinary. The Richmond Hall and Catering by Mario's are truly the best and I would highly recommend them to anybody in need of a wedding venue!

When wedding cake was passed out, they completely missed tables and then acted like everything was just fine when we complained that they skipped us. Sorry not sorry was the attitude. Also, when speaking to the bride, staff kept interrupting rather than allowing guests to interact. Just be aware should you have them cater your event / wedding that the staff might be an issue.

2424 Studios - Renovated Facade

But it took the Pabst Blue Ribbon Crafting Challenge that featured PBR inspired crafts, and chili cook off that featured the likes of PYT and Abbaye; and live music from kick ass bands like Levee Drivers and TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb to finally check it out. And while I savored bites of incredible chili and PBR inspired refreshments I was able to get a grasp on more of what 24224 Studios had to offer as a whole. Upon checking out the list of tenants I was able to spot recognizable names like Backseat Conceptions (The crew behind this long lost gem - http://www.yelp.com/biz/941-theater-philadelphia#hrid:nC5nrwoAsIo2BBUNRzy55w/src:self), Village Green Productions (http://www.yelp.com/biz/village-green-productions-philadelphia#hrid:h4l1ubby-5oN9-Nr-JREgQ/src:self), and others who held it down within the arts and music genre taking up residency within it many office spaces. There was also plenty of real estate groups, wellness centers, photographers, IT/Designer services, non-profits, and (say it isn't so!) Five Hour Energy Drink inside. The Skybox where the Crafting Challenge took place is by far the main attraction. It is a wide open and huge open warehouse space that is designed soley to showcase some eclectic events. Aside from the aforementioned craft market and FM Festival, Philebrity has hosted a few special events inside, Bands in the Backyard held its SXSW send off party (and might be moving into an office), and Making Time has hosted at least one of its Halloween freak outs here. And its calendar fills up with plenty of other eclectic occasions.

The space offered a great balance of old world charm with subtle updates. I hear rumors that it used to be an ammunition warehouse but nothing that I could confirm. The brick, old beams and simple black and white accents created a blank canvas allowing any affair to add its own color and flair. I would recommend checking out this space if you are looking for great event space.

One of the most famous of these associations in Philly is the Lithuanian Music Hall in the heart of old Port Richmond. This center for Lithuanian immigrants in the Delaware Valley is a spacious facility with a large gathering space on the first floor and a pretty ballroom on the second floor. On Lithuanian festival weekend both floors can get quite cowded. Now do you ever have a yearning for some of the popular Lithuanian comfort foods? One of my favorite Lithuanian dishes is Kugelis and I couldn't wait to eat it at the recent Lithuanian festival. This baked potato and egg pudding with its caramelized onions topping melts in your mouth. Of course Lithuania is well-known for its flavorful Blynai (potato pancakes) but I like even more Lithuanian Balandelai - the flavorful stuffed cabbages. Lithuanian kielbasa are closely related to their Polish counterparts.....just try to eat only one!?! The dessert table contains many Lithuanian sweet specialties including Melanie raspberry cookies. In addition many vendors have set up tables to display and sell the famous and beautiful Lithuanian amber jewelry. If you are in the Philly area for the annual Lithuanian food festival at the old Music Hall, check it out .... and make sure you have an empty stomach when you do!
