Mondays will be the only day that I will go. The prices for these used items are outrageous and definitely not the same as they were before the pandemic, that's just how long it's been since I've been, but on Mondays everything is half off of your entire bill. This place is no longer non-profit. They are for profit. Very sad. I've been coming to this thrift store for a longg time. It's very disappointing to see how expensive they are charging now for used items that they receive for free. Especially during a time when many people are struggling to make ends meet... now I can't even afford my nearest thrift store and have to go somewhere far to get reasonable prices. I hope someone does something about these prices please. Also, if you are donating, please remove the tags because they will price it according to the tag which is disgusting. Even if the item is missing pieces, ripped, stained, they don't care they will charge according the tag. Another complaint I have is the removal of changing rooms. Because you can't return anything, you can only exchange. So customers are forced to try items on awkwardly in the isles. This is just plain ridiculous and obviously greedy. If you're gonna take away changing rooms, allow RETURNS, not exchanges. Simple. read more

I had a great experience with an employee at the Brickyard Unique this morning 12/23/24. They have switched to mostly self-check which were causing constant problems. The young woman working the check out area was running around trying to help everyone. It was a packed line, two days before Christmas, and she was so incredible- friendly, patient, and looking to see who needed help. I did not catch her name but she was working at the front checkout area this morning. Kudos to her and to all of the staff at the brickyard unique. I shop at this location a lot and I appreciate the hard work everyone there puts in. It's a great store. read more

I went here during a time of the week when there was a sale happening on clothing and accessories if you are a Unique/Savers member and were emailed a coupon. That day I didn't find anything of interest to purchase and use my coupon, but the friend I was with had found a hat that they liked that had no price tag. I offered to give them my coupon since it was expiring soon and I didn't find any clothes or accessories for myself. When we went to the register, we asked the employee working there for a price on the hat and they priced it without a problem. However when I asked them to scan my coupon, they said they couldn't apply it to the item because it was considered a "bed & bath item" and not an "accessory". The cashier said jewelry had counted as an accessory. Last I checked, accessories were anything that was either jewelry, scarves, gloves, or a HAT. In this case it was a baseball cap. I don't see how that is considered a bed & bath item. The employee just didn't want to apply the coupon. What's the point of being emailed a coupon and then they refuse to apply it to the item(s) you want to buy that is specifically for that particular coupon (in this case: clothing & accessories). I even took a screenshot of the coupon and everyone can see that there is a clearly a picture of a HAT as one of the items that apply. My friend ended up purchasing the hat because they really liked it, but I surely wouldn't have after that illegitimate excuse to not apply the coupon. I feel like the people working here are all about profit and don't truly care about helping poor communities. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody trying to have a nice time and save some money. After visiting the location in Cragin (on Diversey Ave.), this location appeared to be somewhat higher-end looking because of super-organized racks, a nice panoramic view as soon as walking in, and the presence of security who was vigilantly making his rounds. This is also the only location I've seen that has a restroom available for customers. Other locations are only available to employees. The staff was also professional and didn't hear profanity coming from their mouths. We had a pleasant time browsing and maneuvering in the store. Although I didn't purchase anything since I didn't see items I wanted or needed at this time, I will from now on make sure I visit this store as my first stop of the day whenever they have a sale. This is probably the best Unique location in Chicago. It's located on the tail-end of Fullerton Ave. CTA 74 bus (Fullerton) will take you there. Get off at Narragansett and walk into the shopping plaza. It's located across from Aldi. It also has ample parking if you drive your own vehicle. The alternative route to this location is to take CTA 86 bus (Narragansett) and get off at Fullerton. read more

I Drove 40 minutes to get there and spent 1 hour of picking my purchase..... at the cashier I was told that 80% of merchandise I can not buy because it does not have any price tag... I said - well so call manager and make the estimate because I really want these things - but they would not do it... As these things are unique, I felt very bad that there is no way to get them even though it had been standing on the shelf where I found it... I think that every dollar they make is donated for charity purposes and they refused to do anything to get my $ I was willing to pay... Very unprofessional... If someone forced me into the doors at knife or gunpoint, I might consider going inside again. Currently, Monday is 50% off day and everybody and there smelly mother was in the store by 9AM. I collect vintage clothing, books, and what have you, but you'll be hard pressed to find any real vintage here. 1998 does qualify as vintage, but that's not at all what I'm looking for. What you will find is a lot of junk. You could save yourself a drive or a walk and just go up and down your alley with a box and come up with similar items in the same condition. The store is unorganized, certain aisles stink, and a vibe of desperation hangs in the air. A vibe of anger hung in the air around the cash registers. I had the slowest cashier I have ever seen in my life today. With 30 people in line, you would think that would inspire her to move a little faster, but no. I spent over 30 agonizing minutes in her line. The other two cashiers, one a manager, had aggressive attitudes at certain points, but at least they weren't ringing people up like they had one finger...and it was broken! I have a love hate relationship with this place. I love the store, hate the customer service. 85% of the workers are rude and slow to do their job. Always plan on waiting 10-30 minutes in line depending on the day and who's checking you out. Other than being slow and rude, the workers are highly unprofessional. The last time I was in there the tall, lanky, green haired girl who works there was pumped walking around with two other workers talking about how she wanted to kick some other workers ass, then continues to cuss and get worked up and ignores this little old woman asking for help reading a price tag. It does not surprise me in the least because it feels like every time I'm in there there's always some sort of drama going on or she's in the middle of the worse day of her life. Workers aside, if you can deal with all other aspects it's a fun thrift store to walk thru. Mostly well organized, pretty clean unless it's a Monday when everything is half off. It's not all that unique to be honest. Pros Up to 66% off certain items on Mondays. Apparently people don't read anymore so I get dibs on all the books. Tons of clothes. Great for people who really need these items and can only afford a small amount. Cons yeah they have tons of clothes but this is only a plus if you're stuck in 1992 66% off means nothing if everything is crap Some items can be pricey and WTF will be said often. ok, this store is definitely not the caliber of most Brown Elephant stores or any of your more popular places but it might have a few diamonds in the rough. When losing weight, thrift stores are your best friends. Why pay retail price when your size is going to change soon enough? Its definitely hit or miss. I do come pretty frequently and end up mostly with t-shirts. Its funny how much you can really spend when not paying attention to the sale tags. Today, I was behind some Polish lady buying a few things, including a bag of toys. Cashier takes bag of toys and shows the manager(?) that its opened. Cashier: I'm sorry we don't sell opened bags. Lady: I opened it, my son is playing with two of the toys. (Clear view) Manager(?): I'll give it to you for $3.95. (More than original) Lady: Fine... Really? 1. Polish people open anything packaged for inspection/sizing. I mean anything. That's why half of K-Mart's Hanes Underwear Packs are opened. 2. It's shocking because I have driven past here a million times but have never stopped in. I love the Unique chain of thrift stores. You always find a diamond in the rough. My latest experience was no different! Three (count 'em) three items for $10.95? You really, truly cannot beat it! I got a cute distressed black lightweight "denim" shirt, a cool part jean/ part camouflage skirt and a "look like it had never been worn before" zip up skull emblazoned hoodie type thing. All totally my style, totally "Rihanna worthy" and all for the amazing price of .....let's hear it again....$10.95. I would say this is probably my favorite so far based on the finds. Use to like this place. I will say it is spacious, clean and has fitting rooms. Just not getting a good vibe anymore. Place was fairly empty. Employees congregating and socializing. More than 1 was swearing as I was going up and down the aisles. They seem to enjoy walking infront of you. One employee asked when breaks were starting. The response she got was "It's only 5:30. I have shopped at this store for a year now. They have a great selection and the prices are cheap. Since they do not have a changing room, I try the clothes on in an aisle with a mirror. I found 3 items I liked but then I was informed that they do not accept Google pay so I put the 3 items back where someone couldn't find them since they cannot hold items for you. Unfortunately as I was walking out 2 men security and an African American lady stopped me accusing me of stealing. I forgot I had one put a pair of 2 dollar socks in my purse that I forgot to take out when I was trying clothes on. I immediately took them out of my bag and gave them to the lady. She then proceeded to harrass me and tell me she was going to beat my ass. This was over a pair of 2 dollar socks that I completely forgot about. She then proceeded to block me from leaving by locking the door and having the two very big intimidating men stand in my way. I am a 5 ft tall woman. I then proceeded to tell them to call the police if they were going to press charges. I never took one step out of the store with any items. I called after to speak to a supervisor and she immediately told me I was not allowed on the premises again and uujg up.. Next time I will bring the cops with me to review the footage of the so called shop lifting. What kind of people who work at a donation center threaten you and intimadate you. On top of that, she tried taking my cum stained leggings and my too big grey sports bar and my white cubbie t-shirt which were my gym clothes. This is one of the better Unique's. It's in a great location in a strip mall so it's easy to get to with easy parking. There's lots of discount stores in the mall (i.e. dollar tree, aldi) so you can do all your discount shopping in one shot. This is the Bricktown location and their pricing always differs from the rest of the chain. We went on an early bird Saturday where items were either 33 or 66% off, all the other Uniques were 25 or 50% off. We got there a little after 9am when they first opened, I expected a mad house but it was quite empty. Their game and puzzle area was very well organized. Reg price is $1.99 so we got games for $0.99 and $1.50. The clothing is organized just like everywhere else - by color and style/type, i.e. sleeveless, short sleeves, sweaters, etc. I didn't find as many brand name items at this particular Unique as I have at others, and what I did find was a bit overpriced. Like a brand new Aeropostale mens polo for $13.99?!? But I did walk away with a brand new Athleta tshirt that retails for about $40 for $6.50, 33% off and at about $4.50 it was mine! We've definitely put this Unique on our radar the next time they have a sale (or we happen to be off on a Monday or Thursday morning, ha) the discounts are deeper here so it's worth the trip out just to grab a better deal. read more

Usually thrift stores are, but there were wads of hair on the ground, broken things about, and dirt everywhere. This is my favorite Unique in the city. I always go on Mondays which are sale days. This Unique is a little different because instead of 50% off on Monday it's either 33% or 66% off. I think it's because they know how unique their products are compared to other thrift stores, even other Unique's. The location means that the donations they receive are from a diverse population with a variety of tastes. You get the normal Target and Kohl's brands to boutique brands that a teacher like me could never afford. I live in the suburbs and think this Unique is totally worth the drive to stock up on new clothes and other goodies. read more

A northwest side thrift store will not yield many haute couture diamonds in the rough. Think of who's donating "dress" clothes here: failed car salesmen, recently fired hostesses at Old Country Buffet, all the wreckage and the cast-offs of Verizon store house cleanings, and hulking ex-caterers moving on to better jobs at Jiffy Lube. (But cf. wacko eastern Europeans, fresh arrived.) But I dig this thrift store man. I do. A great place to find men's shoes (though it's hit or miss of course). Especially if you're looking for sizes 11-13. For whatever reason -- and I've been stopping in here for years -- there's usually some bizarre and fun pair of shoes in that size range kicking around. Mens' pants, you can usually find what you need in the big chain brands (Gap, Old Navy, whatever). Men's suits are what you'd expect on the NW side: old polyester and wool, likely the special-occasions gear of the recently deceased. Haven't had luck with ties here. Board games (what?) are plentiful and tend to have all the pieces. Men's long-sleeve button-down shirts deserve a special paragraph. You do get a few solid higher-end mass-produced shirts (like Brooks Brothers) at this Unique but HOLY CATS!! This place as often as not staples the price tag through the FRONT of the collar! Why, Unique, why?? It's only the most visible spot on a men's dress shirt, and it's usually woven so fine that staple holes show. I found a sweet off-brand white oxford here once and took a risk that the staple holes wouldn't be too big. They were, my friends. They were. Hear my tale of woe! I can scarcely bring myself to wear the thang wit' a tie, y'all. Still, if you go in there knowing that half the men's dress shirts you find will have staple holes in the front of the collar (shrug), it's allll right. read more

Worst store I ever been to. Place is awful. Feel the stench and dust in the building. The place looked dusty. Combined IQ of 65. Was very unorganized. Really rude and smack lips. Manager said everything was 3.99 when it clearly said on tag it was 1.99. I bought four book the line took forever. I would never go back there again and shoes smelled nasty. The book selection used to be a lot better. So, either I totally cleaned them out, or it's always a hit or miss. (Or maybe I've told too many people about it.) There's a sea of broken toys in this place, and my children are always begging to take something home. Why...I'll never know lol. They have managed to find a few electronic gems in good working condition and like new. But, typically, if I buy something just to satiate them, I'm throwing it out a couple of weeks later anyhow. I don't have the patience required to search through resale clothing. My mother on the other hand is there almost every Monday, sifting for new and like-new items. The aisles are super small. I was constantly having to step aside to let someone pass. There's loads and loads of clothes here. Too much if you ask me. Lots of electronics. But the store is very messy. I'm sure employees organize and clean as much as they can..... Love-hate relationship! This store is a hot mess - but could be a diamond in the rough if it were organized better! Tucked in the back corner of the Bricktown Square Mall - I discovered this thrift store recently and was so excited. However, on Mondays it is a madhouse (50% off day)! Other days prices are thru the roof expensive. I shop primarily for hard goods, china, and vintage knick-knacks, and the shelves are always a precarious wreck! "Like items" or sets of things are rarely boxed or taped together - so it is like a scavenger hunt to find matching cups and saucers for example. Items get separated from each other, beat up and broken - often because they are stacked on top of other items. And, I've noticed the prices creeping up for no apparent reason. The goal of community service thrift stores should be to move out product as quickly as possible at the most reasonable prices - not try to compete with Ross or TJ Maxx. Lower your prices! Keep the store clean, rearrange the store layout and organize the merchandise so that it builds sales and keeps merchandise in good condition. read more

I usually don't write negative reviews but I'm really disappointed at how I was treated. Since its Monday it was very busy in the store, I waited in line almost 2 hours ( not an exaggeration) the only reason I waited was because I had really good items I found. One of which was a skirt but the price fell off while I was trying it on. When I finally was at the register the girl just threw the skirt under her register without saying anything. So I nicely told her the price fell off. Without even looking at me she said I can't sell that to you and was just ignoring me. I really wanted the skirt so I asked to speak to manager about it . The manager yelled at me from across the room so rudely " I can't sell that to you !!" They didn't want to hear me out or even put a new tag on it or explain why. I have never been treated so rudely, as if I tried to put a new tag on it which i would never do. It was very embarrassing, even people in line were trying to stick up for me. The reason I'm writing this is because nobody deserves to be treated like this, you can at least just have a little respect in explaining to me why you can't sell it to me, especially being the manager instead of treating me like garbage.
