i lived in the North tower in a studio for a year and a half. I stayed through two summers as well. everyone has a different experience but overall I would recommend living here Pros: -gorgeous apartments with great views. studios come unfurnished but was still big enough for a queen bed, love seat couch, small bar table and several other pieces of furniture. had a walk in closet as well -fast elevators! at least from my experience in the north tower. security is decent -pool has a lot of chairs so there's usually always space available (when the pool isn't shut down) -located in the heart of tempe, perfect for ppl who wanna be next door to both mill and campus -one of the nicest apartments in Tempe overall. I would say the pricing is worth it -community events happen often with free food and activities. they had an event with Celsius at the pool deck and I went and snagged like 20 cans of Celsius for free Cons: - appliances inside my apartment weren't always functioning properly. The washing machine would eat my clothes regularly, and the dishwasher would flood my sink with disgusting dirt water when draining (yes I contacted maintenance & the issue just continued to happen after they came multiple times, ended up just not using dishwasher) - not sure why they would completely redo the pool and close it for months right at the beginning of the summer. and no we did not get compensation for not being able to use amenities. pool was shut down a lot actually for draining and cleaning when residents bring glass to the pool deck. - parking garage is managed by a separate company that did not do regular maintenance, or really any at all. I'm talking specifically about the wall by the north tower entrance on the 4th floor that accumulated a LOT of bird feces (you will encounter the pigeons that live there daily and they will do their business on your car), as well as the hanging canopy that broke and was never repaired. -when in hallways, you can hear inside people's apartments very clearly, and when you are inside your apartment you can hear hallway noise. luckily you can't really hear neighbors when everyone is inside. read more

The only thing I positively say about living there is the Tempe view from my balcony, which doesn't even reflect the property itself. Maintenance was pretty bad. My ice maker was broken for the entire year, then they finally came and fixed it the last week before I moved out! They also advertise a giant screen at the pool area, and have it marketed as currently there, even though it's not and doesn't look like there's been work to put it there. Going to class was absolute chaos. Minimum 5 minute waits in rush hour just to get on the elevator, then your cramped in there and stop on just about every floor before getting to the bottom. Put in a request to have our carbon monoxide detector battery changed, got an email this afternoon saying it was complete, arrived home to the mystical melody of ear piercing beeps. Astonishes me more often than not how improperly managed this place is. If they put batteries in a different one, Wouldn't you wait to hear where the beeping is coming from before you start fixing it? My roommates cabinets are still broken, why wouldn't you solve all the problems when you see them? Or solve them well the first time so the same thing doesn't brake over and over? The maintenance is horrible. I had a washing machine that flooded my apartment twice a week for 7 months before they were able to fix it. The elevators take nearly ten minutes to get to you if it's not before 6am. Absolute worst experience! A single star is being extremely generous! I'd avoid this place like the plague! Move in/move out procedures were lax and certainly in favor of the facility. Over the year lease there were several maintenance issues that took longer than normal to resolve, The maintenance personnel entered without adequate notice and the front desk help was basically non-existent. Be prepared to be charged on move out for cleaning (regardless of how well it was cleaned) and anything that could even be conceived as damage regardless of the move-in condition. The parent company refuses to engage in those disputes, they refuse to answer e-mail and will not return calls. Money well spent to stay away from this joke of a property and avoid the risk and hassle of dealing with the property management. Money better spent to move a bit further out. read more

I wanted my daughter to have a good experience living off campus while attending ASU. I should've known from the getgo waiting for the lease to be sent to me only to be told they sent it to my daughter to sign?! I'm the guarantor here- I'm the one that needs to sign the lease not her? she just signed without knowing what she was signing - which was her mistake. I was paying $500 more a month than most because we signed early! Just everything was off putting to say the least! Her roommates were hardly there or tucked away in their rooms- never any social events as promised in beginning - additional fees here and there depending on # of roommates which changed many times throughout the year! I personally cleaned and made sure there was no damage at move out - yet we're being charged a damage fee - is this across the board? I realize it's only $69 but still did everyone get this same charge x #of apts?! Send me a picture of damage otherwise I'm not paying it. They are sneaky! Please read and look at photos!! Expensive for what you are getting, so you can be slightly more critical since I was paying $1,500-2,100 (including tax and parking, and also $55 in electricity). Also fire on 15th floor 2023/2024 south tower. Read the lease all the way through. They are through asu, but just do not have a master lease with asu like District, Apollo, and Array. I would prefer living at Canvas or even Vertex since ASU has standards and update their facilities unlike Union. Also I would look at Piedmont or houses in the maple ash area. More worth your money and can be same walking/ driving distance anyways. Nice views facing south in the south tower (campus) or north in the north tower (mill/A mountain), but not worth it. I lived at union for my second and third year at ASU. 4X2 unit was about $1,500 including parking. Then the studio was $,2100 (360sq. ft.) also including parking. Matnance is fine, but dishwasher at Union 4X2 union was broken, never replaced even after 7 work orders. They also took out all the paneling and never replaced. They just said when you all move out we will fix the problem. But one roommate was planning on living in that unit next year, they just never placed the work order themselves. 360 sq.ft. aka the smallest and least efficient layout in Union, led to me attempting to use the amenities. Soon learned the study areas is either full and also just the whole 5th floor amenities is super outdated for what you are paying for. I guess it is good since you are by Mill, if you like that and do not want to pay for Uber. But every time I would go out it was still not worth the bad apartment complex. It is like bad college campus housing at a luxury price. Atmposhere is new and similar prices. Or Mark Taylor is around campus and rent/ buy furniture, about the same price and not through ASU. read more

Best apartment I've lived in in the Tempe/Mesa area (out of four). Maintenance is slow and the immediate management is slow, but not nearly as slow as any other property I've lived at. We're talking a week late, not a month or more. Doesn't get five stars due to the price, it's really not worth it, but for what's mostly student housing smack in the middle of downtown Tempe, it's not bad at all. Very nice apartments, overall decent management and front desk, elevators were never out once in the year I was there. No issues with insects or cockroaches (which has been an issue everywhere else I've lived). Overall I'd recommend looking for somewhere else just due to the price, but I had a great experience living here. read more

My son has lived here a year and a half and has been sick all the time. We couldn't figure out what was causing it, GI issues, sinus issues, lightheaded, and colds that would last long. He even started to get POTS, which is heart palpitations. We have spent thousands of dollars with a doctor that diagnosed him with mold toxicity, which takes a LONG time to heal from. Someone else here mentioned that the hallways felt humid. Ding ding ding! We took pictures and you could clearly see BLACK mold in the HVAC system and vents in his unit. Guys, this is toxic and can lead to malignancies! We had asked management a few months ago to check the HVAC system and clean it out, but I know that a full-blown remediation could cost them hundreds of thousands, so they will NOT do it. So se moved out mid lease and we're trying to get them to terminate the lease but they are not working with us. So sad, but it's common, from dorms, hotels, etc. I wish there was a clean place where they really cared for their residents' wellbeing. Does that even exist anymore? read more

My ASU Student lived here for 3 years, and while she enjoyed it, working with upper management was difficult. Any time she wanted something done and requested repairs there was no response. As the guarantor I would have to follow up to get things done. When she moved out, we received bills for things such as carpet cleaning (note the picture - she was in this unit for 1 year) and this is not listed as a condition of move out. When I talked with them about the noticeably clean carpet, they didn't really care. The only reason I paid their charges was to not receive a collection notice as seen in many reviews. My advice would be to have a lawyer look at your lease, document photos before and after and every communication with management. Even then, they really don't care and will charge you. read more

My daughter was a tenant at Union Tempe over the past two years. Do not rent at this building. The hallways always smelled like the garbage room and the common areas were often dirty when we visited. The bedrooms are extremely small and the rent is very high for what you get. After moving out they continue to withhold our damage deposit over a balance of $18.12. Why not just deduct that amount and close out the account? Unfortunately this is how corporate apartments appear to be run today. read more

Live anywhere but here. This place is fucking disgusting 24/7 and is constantly having problems. They shut down the elevators at least 10 times resulting with residents walking up about 20 flights of stairs multiple times a day. The idiots that run this place thought it was so smart to drain the pool while it's the middle of summer leaving use with no pool. Not to mention how the hallways are literally humid because the thermostats is always busted and ripped off the wall. Oh and not to mention the parking situation is a joke. The hotel across the street has taken over nearly 1/3 of the garage leaving absolutely no spots on the 1-3 floor. They also drive like assholes so watch out, I've almost gotten hit 3 times by the same valet. Overall, this place is a shithole and don't recommend lol. Not worth 1200 a month AT ALL. Don't rent here! This place just ripped me off for a $250 deposit after I decided to look elsewhere after submitting an application. I was led to believe it was a $75 non-refundable application fee and that the other $175 was refundable if I chose not to execute the lease. After I informed the management I was going to look elsewhere for a place, they told me they were keeping my $250. This practice speaks volumes about how they will treat you after you sign your lease. Such shady business practices. It's a shame that they'd rather keep my $250 than to try and keep a future or prospective resident happy. $250........just for submitting a lease application. Union Tempe has a lot of bad reviews and I'm not sure why I've lived here the past three years and I have zero complaints. The maintenance outstanding. They care about helping you! You can tell they are busy but they do they're best they're always cleaning the floors and vacuuming the hallways. Some of the reviews say it's poorly managed since students work here, but I've never had one issue they're always super nice and respectful. Shout out to Tayler, Jamie, and Sarah for making my move out process so smooth and stress-free these girls were really the sweetest! The leasing office agents go above and beyond all the time, one time I was locked out but I had work and they literally ran to help me get in. The actual apartments are very nice and clean. However, you can hear every single word your roommates say since the vents are all connected, so there is never any peace and quiet. The neighbors play loud music that literally vibrate the walls. And don't even bother asking the leasing office for any kind of help. They have the WORST customer service I have ever seen in my life. I have sent them 5 emails in the past month and I have not had a single reply. I've called them and they are still no help. I have lived at Union since August of 2019 with two other roommates and I have had nothing but a great experience! I read some of these reviews and it does not reflect how Union is. People have to expect that the majority of people living here are college students so its not going to be "perfect" all the time. In my opinion, out of all the apartments that are being built around ASU, Union is the best one. The apartments are big, the location is great and the majority of apartments have big balconies. While the other apartments do not provide that. I will say it is a bit pricey, but that's the price you're paying for the location, a parking garage, roomy apartments, and a 2 minute walk to campus! Seeing complaints about roommates or loud noises doesn't reflect on Union or the staff. That's just the price you pay for living in an apartment complex. The staff has always been extremely nice and accommodating. Jessie C. has helped me on numerous occasions with being locked out and any questions I had. The staff is amazing! The apartments themselves are not bad. They are nice, new, and clean; however, the staff at the front office is quite terrible. It seems as if this apartment only hires people based off of looks. My 15 year old sister would do a better job and delivering customer service and having simple manners. I forgot my key to my apartment once and I consistently apologized to the person letting me back into my apartment. They didn't say anything back the whole entire time and they were clearly pissed. Horribly managed, and I don't think there even is a manager, and the entire building is run by college kids. Move in is two days before school stars, which is standard for ASU (though incredibly annoying), and the apartments did not seem cleaned before hand. There were pots left in the cabinets from the old tenant, sticky stuff over the walls, crumbs under the appliances and in the cabinets, and bugs in apartments. Neighbors put in a request to get ants taken care of, and its been at least 4 days living with ants and no maintenance still. When I moved in, a sink was leaking, and the showers didn't drain etc. The garbage room was filled to the brim (couldnt even open the door up more than a few inches) for the past 4 days (since before people started moving in), shouldn't you plan to remove the garbage before and during move in/move out? Isnt that just logical?? Less frustrating and more if an ode to their lack of management. The vents were also filled with black stuff (mold, dust?) that looked like it was cleaned, but only from the outside (from another review it seems they said it would be too expensive to actually clean the mold out of the vents). It's not the fault of the maintenance guys or the college kids, its the management that doesn't care to hire actual employees, or pay enough people to clean and maintain their building. The "move in packet" didn't have any info on where to dump garbage, map of amenities, where you have to park, instead it was filled with advertisements for companies around ASU! We have to pay for the whole month of rent even though we are only living here for half of it, then pay and extra $300 if we want to move 5 days before school starts instead of 2! Room assignments and general information was also horribly communicated, a room mate never received move-in email and information, they said they would tell us if early move in was approved by a date (like two weeks before early move in), then never did, and you had to call to ask a college kid to check for you. Room assignments weren't announced until sometime in july, even though leases had renewed last November, (8 months ago!) so there is no reason why they cant just organize it better. Any person can organize this with an excel sheet. I think Greystar is just such a big company, you can't find anyone who actually cares to organize things in a reasonable way, it's just bureaucracy all the way up, and things are done in the most infuriatingly inefficient way possible. My recommendation is to live a little further from campus, or at least not here, and someplace not managed by a huge company like greystar, or a huge building like union, its too big to be managed well. Vertex is amazing, you actually see the maintenance guys cleaning everyday, taking out the trash daily, vista is pretty good, and smaller places are also pretty good I've heard. The rooms are way to expensive to have to deal with stuff like this. And my advice to union: GET REAL EMPLOYEES AND IMPROVE YOUR MANAGEMENT. read more

For example the other night when the fire alarm started going off - all the employees were really helpful and it made me feel really safe , and that I was in the right hands. My son lived in Union Tempe for 3 years-only because it was easier to stay than to pack up and move, especially during Covid. They show you model apartments which are quite nice, but once you sign the lease and move in, you realize how poorly maintained the building is. We were paying for amenities that were broken down and useless. Maybe one of the outdoor grills worked throughout the 3 years he was living there. Several of the machines in the fitness room were in non working condition. His windows weren't washed once during his 3 years living there. The refrigerator and dishwasher were scratched and stained. The halls were seldom vacuumed, the garbage room was disgusting ALL THE TIME. These are not luxury apartments as advertised. The kicker is the parking garage-only a few security cameras. My son's catalytic converter was stolen and the management company (Greystar) did nothing about it. Two months without a car (supply chain) and $2,500 later, Greystar would not accept any responsibility. TERRIBLE!! Lastly, Greystar withdrew a full rent payment (almost $1,200) from our checking account after my son's lease had already ended. I had to leave emails and messages to finally get a response from Greystar. They are sending a check in the mail that will take up to 14 days to receive. They will not send it overnight mail. They want your money and once they have it, will take no responsibility for anything. I never do reviews but this place needs it. The MOST unaccommodating apartment complex I've ever lived at. My unit flooded three months before move out date, due to a problem that wasn't my fault and they are still making me pay for an apartment that is completely unlivable. I called maintenance once & the guy that came was googling and YouTubing how to fix my sink, the next day my apartment was flooded. This is my second lease term here and this place has gone way downhill. I wish I hadn't re-signed. We have not had wifi for over a month, even after going out of our way to call and email different parties every day to get it fixed. Our keys constantly deactivate and maintenance does not respond to requests even after weeks. Union tempe has continued to IGNORE my 6 requests for maintenance to come fix our broken garbage disposal that has now filled our whole sink with the most disgusting smelly gnat infested water that will not go down, after that my dishwasher broke and started to flood my kitchen. Union Tempe employees are rude condescending and speak to you as if you are a child they do not take any calls seriously and my friends who also live here were LAUGHED at when she said her dryer is broken and has been for weeks. My daughter moved in to the Union August of 2019. Since November of 2019 we have complained of loud vibrations, "squeaking" sounds coming from her vents. Then covid hit and we brought her home, while still paying the rent. Tonight I came to stay with her to get settled back in the a/c is so loud, for 10 min at a time that it is almost impossible to speak to each other. We called maintenance.....emergency maintenance... AGAIN, and while the rep was very professional and nice he had no answers, promised to let maintenance know at 10am when they open. This is ridiculous for $1500/month. At one point we tried to move apartments for her and they wanted to charge us a moving fee, instead we brought her home. I have never seen an apartment complex run so poorly and with absolutely no regard for their tenants. My daughter is a very responsible 20 year college student, and it would seem her quality of living is of no concern as long as they get their $1500/month. I will be videoing the sounds coming from her unit throughout the night to play for maintenance in the morning. If you value a quiet environment with quality maintenance and care for tenants do not pick the Union as a place to reside. read more
