It was so hot! I wish I had a walk-in icebox in my kitchen. What to do, what to do? I wanted to jump in a stream and fly fish, but it was too late. But then, I thought of an item on my To-Do List: kayaking. Yes, props has to be given to fellow Yelpers Soyon K. & Chris F., for putting this business on my radar. I've generally stayed away from the river during the summer like the plague---too crowded, noisy (& hella annoying) jet skiers, and much better options a short drive away. But I had to cool off...and get a work out. I went for two hours for $30, which included all the equipment you'd need and a bottle of water. This was all I could go for since they were only open for two hours. I put in at Howard Amon Park. Now, I've never kayaked before. I had hopes of going all over the place in two hours: paddle up to the Hanford Reach, kayaking up the Yakima, etc. I obviously don't know my abilities very well. The person helping me out suggested something a little less ambitious. I ended up paddling upriver to an island off of Leslie Grove Park--she said some people can't even make it there! This scared me, so I pointed my kayak upward and toward the island. Oh yeah, it's a good workout---remember, use your whole body to paddle or your shoulders will explode! I braved a few waves from boats, and a little bit of slimy plant life, but I managed to make it to the island in: 25min! Jeez, so now I had some time to kill. I ended up paddling around the island (tried to feed some snacks to a flock of Canadian geese, but they raised their noses at me). I then beached and had a bite & drink on the island. I then went down river. Now I would have thought going downriver would have been easier, but it didn't really seem so. Whenever you paddle it's a workout--regardless of water flow. So yeah, such a cool summer activity option. The staff person was super nice, and made everything really easy. I would definitely do it again. This would be a great date activity. Maybe I should take a class though. I don't know what I'd do if I flipped my kayak over--yeah, wouldn't want that to happen on a first date!

This place came up and so we earmarked it as an activity we definitely wanted to try. 2. I'm so glad we followed through w going because the owners (Valerie and Landon) were very welcoming and great. Landon was quick to show us the proper posture for right/left handed people, which was awesome bcuz we have both. 3. The shop is neat and unique. I've never been to an axe throwing place and this location set the standard high. When you first arrive you must sign a waiver. Their COVID-19 precautions are unmatched. You must wear a mask at all times and all the equipment is sanitized. In fact, Landon wore gloves anytime he was going to teach us techniques as to avoid possible contamination. I very much appreciated that level of respect. 4. The best part is that they have various sized axes which keeps making things interesting. My favorite was for sure the star. We then decided to play competitive games and they were nice enough to keep score for us. We had an amazing family outing and will definitely be back when we visit again. Super friendly people and such a fun activity to enjoy w family, friends or a date night. Thanks for the hospitality! As part of post-Wedding family activities, my Brother-In-Law took us out on a boat for a tour of the Columbia River. Both trips started at ended at the Chiawana Park Boat Dock. And it was a great day to be out on the water. I was on the first Adults Only trip that included a stop at Ice Harbor Brewery (on Clover Island) for Lunch and a chance to take a short swim in the middle of the stream. I jumped at the later opportunity as the water was cold, clear, and refreshing! In between was nice views of the Blue and Cable Bridges and the Moore Mansion where Gayle's Niece was married the day before. The second trip involved the Kids and that turned out to be a series of inner tube rides. When he returned, my excited son told me that it was his best time ever!

There is also a sandy area on the opposite of the wake area for kids and adults alike to swim, splash, and enjoy the summer. There is a rope that prevents the public from going too far near the boat crossings and the water is deep enough to jump from the dock area. I loved the structures, in addition to all the beautiful trees, that helped give shade on this brutal summer. In addition, I noticed there were bathrooms for changing and water faucets to wash the sand off your feet with a massive parking lot that is appreciated. During my stay I also noticed a walking path and a couple of volleyball courts that were in play throughout the day. Very well done and I look forward to returning soon!
