Those adventurous dishes are what make this gem so amazing. Trust me when I say your taste buds will thank you for taking the path less traveled. If you check out the included photo you'll see a wide assortment of flavors on display, from spicy dumplings swimming in delicious hot oil to aromatic spicy crab, which was a surprise hit. Yes, there are spicy dishes a plenty at this place, but you'll also find plates suitable for milder tongues as well. The entire menu is packed with delicious food which will satisfy just about anyone in your group. Indoor dining isn't happening these days, but during my previous visits to Jin Jiang I always found the service to be friendly and attentive while the atmosphere was quite comfortable. Seriously, this is the kind of rare find (outside of your local Chinatown) that I want to support through these tough times because I love restaurants that work hard to expand the Chinese cuisine experience beyond the same boring stuff that has sadly become synonymous with takeaway. Give them a try if you're looking for something different. They just might become your new favorite Chinese.

I passed by Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, African, Afro-Caribbean restaurants before landing at The Orient restaurant. It's on the high street, and I was drawn in by the roasted ducks dangling in the window. I asked the waitress what the Chinese customers were enjoying, which turned out to be steaming bowls of noodle soup with various options. I went for the roasted duck with bok choy. It was delicious! Just as good as my favorite duck-noodle soup in New York's Chinatown. I washed it down with a large pint of Chinese larger on tap. The total bill was 9 pounds, and I was very happy :) This place encourages me to consider Depford as a home base, especially if I can get a noodle soup fix on the high street.

The rest of the menu is great, too: personal favourites include the salt and chili aubergine. Friends rate the crispy duck as the best they've had! Service is friendly, and I enjoy eating here both for casual lunches and for meals out with friends and family. Highly recommended!

We sat at a front table with a large sunny window and enjoyed a large lunch including sweet and sour chicken, tiger prawns with pan fried noodles and vegetables, prawn toast, chicken fried rice and Spring rolls. The only thing you need to be aware of is they only accept cash, so be prepared with £/GBP in hand. We reheated our leftovers the next day and they were almost as good as the day before!

Tai Won Mein, directly translates to Big Bowl Noodle, is, as it's named, serve very big portions of food, however, there is absolutely no quality to it, and it's just quite plain... The BBQ Roast Pork and Duck rice was untraditional, serve with gravy rather than the traditional soy sauce, while the Black Bean Beef Hor Fun was just a Fried beef hor fun adding some black bean sauce on top, and to make the matter worst the Hor fun wasn't even seasoned properly while the beef is over cooked. I mean I wasn't expecting a lot, but you can at least try not waste perfectly fine ingredients? I will commend on their portion though, and given the size and the price, you can't really complain too much...

Another notable dish was their aubergine and tofu hotpot. The dessert "3 color" was also tasty. Service was dodgy, especially when we told them we don't really want a white rice refill (we were a party of 11) but they insisted that they will just give us a "little". Well, they ended up giving us a whole new (HUGE) bowl of white rice even though we were clearly done eating. Ended up charging us an extra £26 for the unwanted white rice (wtf). We ended up just paying it as we didn't want to argue over something so petty in front of family (and they knew it too), but come on! Not cool.

I'd usually recommend making reservations when it to comes to dim sum but there a ton of tables here and they were only half seated when we came on Sunday afternoon. Customers dining were primarily Asian families and young adults. Out of the everything we tried, the best dishes were the Thai style chicken feet, salt & pepper squid, and the fried cha siu dumplings. Those that weren't so great were the shu mai and shrimp dumplings. Overall, not a terrible place but don't have high expectations. I'd only come back for the convenience and guaranteed table.
