Some of the best Indian food that I've ever had. Very reasonable prices as well. Definitely check it out if you have a chance!

I just moved to London, and was scoping out Depford as a potential future neighborhood. First off,…read moreI love the cultural mix of this area. I passed by Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, African, Afro-Caribbean restaurants before landing at The Orient restaurant. It's on the high street, and I was drawn in by the roasted ducks dangling in the window. I asked the waitress what the Chinese customers were enjoying, which turned out to be steaming bowls of noodle soup with various options. I went for the roasted duck with bok choy. It was delicious! Just as good as my favorite duck-noodle soup in New York's Chinatown. I washed it down with a large pint of Chinese larger on tap. The total bill was 9 pounds, and I was very happy :) This place encourages me to consider Depford as a home base, especially if I can get a noodle soup fix on the high street.

The rest of the menu is great, too: personal favourites include the salt and chili aubergine. Friends rate the crispy duck as the best they've had! Service is friendly, and I enjoy eating here both for casual lunches and for meals out with friends and family. Highly recommended!
Roast duck, char Sui pork, crispy pork and vermicelli noodles, wow.

I also ate the vusa sauce, which had a spicy kick and a tangy flavor. The service for me, especially with several food allergies, was outstanding. I really felt like they cared if I could eat my food safely. Really grateful for Wik's attentive service. I hate eating at restaurants that I have at home in Texas, but this stands out so much that we'll come back before we leave anyway. Oh, and the decor is beautiful. They have the fusion of "fast food" and "upscale" just right.

This is the nicest location I've visited. Beautiful views of the Thames and they have a big rooftop patio which would be so nice on a warm day. It's a big, light and exceptionally clean space. Windows!
Look at that rooftop patio!

It was 10£, which is a little pricey compared to home. The noodles used are a bit thicker, but still v good overall. They have a vegan menu! Might try something and see how it is. Also got the fried wings to go (7.5£) and they were so good! Good amount, worth the price imo. They could be fine on their own, but they also gave some mae ploy sauce on the side.

I took my friend to give it a try and we weren't disappointed. There are so many appetizing things on the menu it took us a while to decide (the staff are friendly but hung back and didn't bother us, which I like), eventually I opted for the Vietnamese ham & pate Banh Mi (tasty and filling, would highly recommend!) and my friend had the Char Sui pork noodles (the biggest bowl of food I have ever seen for a fiver). Will definitely return soon to try the soups, summer rolls, and bubble tea, can't wait.

The sandwiches are fantastic, and you're more than welcome to go "off-menu" if you'd like your own fillings. I highly recommend the Meatball and Feta toasted Ciabatta, which actually came as a recommendation from the lovely lady who worked there. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the food is fantastic. A good selection of breakfast and lunch-type foods are available, and the atmosphere is friendly. The cafe is spacious, clean and I always try to make time to come here at least once a month. Would you want to bring a date here? No, but that's not what it's for. Would you bring a group of friends here after a messy night out for a hangover cure in a friendly setting? Absolutely! And for that, 5 stars is deserved.
