The atmosphere is somewhat reminiscent of a small town diner or a even a school cafeteria, in the most positive sense. The perogies and sausage are spot on to what I remember having at church and family potlucks, this is the closest you're gonna get to experiencing that, without marrying a Ukrainian. In my opinion, this is the best option for classic Ukrainian grub in Edmonton. read more

So, so yummy! Cute little restaurant that serves your basic, just like Baba makes, Ukrainian food. The perogies were good - covered in sautéed onions and cream. The cabbage rolls were super (I had the sour kind) and I am a tough critic because my Grandma makes amazing cabbage rolls. I wasn't overly thrilled with the crepes and would substitute those out next time. Like others have said, it closes at 7pm every night so get there early. read more

My mouth is already watering. It's been months since I've been here, but I'll tell ya, when you're craving a plate of good ol' Ukrainian indulgence, this is THE place to go in Edmonton. The prices are AMAZING! The food is spectacular. And I hail from a small town full of Ukrainians, so I'd like to say I know what I'm talking about. I'm going to have to make a visit here again soon. Very soon. Tomorrow? read more

Ukrainian foods very reminiscent of small town church suppers - nothing fancy, but pretty good. Prices are very reasonable and the service is usually quick. They are not open Sundays and close at 7 p.m. read more

I was going to give Uncle Ed's 5 stars but found that our wait for a table was much longer than I had hoped. Apparently this place is very popular and I wish I had found it sooner growing up just down the street. If you like Ukrainian fare, for me this is the place to go when dining out. Affordable, family friendly, and food like Baba used to make - what's not to like? See you soon Uncle Ed's! P.S. Faves included cabbage rolls, perogies, and Mundare Sausage. You can even buy some to take him and cook up fresh at the Deli Counter. read more

Amazing food! I've lived in Ontario for 3 years now and have really missed this place. The perogies and cabbage rolls are always excellent. This time I tried the meatballs - will be hard to decide between them and the mundare sausage going forward. Love them both. Service was quick and friendly! read more

Our family has eaten a few times here. If you are looking for an authentic ukranian meal then this is the place to be! I find ukranian food to be a little heavy and fatty, so I only eat it on occasion. Since this restaurant moved from it's original location a few years ago, it's a lot roomier and a nicer atmosphere. The food is quite good, service is quick and staff is fairly friendly. I really like that the Mundare sausage house is attached, which is always a must-the kubasa and pierogies are the best! I also enjoy the great selection of Jam lady products. The relishes are amazing! Beware the lunch time rush and early closing-not really geared for supper. read more

I love Uncle Ed's! Holy crow if you like borscht then strap in cuz this is probably the best borscht I've ever had! Also the perogies, the sausage, those lil wrapped up crepes with the cheese inside em Ooooo Weeee we are talking about a feast over here! My dad and I always go here and I love it! The servers are just wonderful! If I were you I'd get a piece of pie after your mean because you deserve it!! Then I would go to the deli side and take some Mundare Sausage home to your family and friends. In one meal, you'll become a hero!! read more

I have been going here for forever! It is one of my Dad's favourite restaurants when he comes to visit. Uncle Ed may be gone (may he RIP), but his wonderful food still lives on! Mundare sausage is a wonderful thing, they have that! The perogies, cabbage rolls, cheese buns and cheese crepes are delicious. There are many different combination plates to choose from as well as a daily special. One of my faves is the smoked porkchop. The plates are filling. I can usually only finish a small plate. The servers must really enjoy working here because I swear they have all been the same ladies for the last 10 years. They are pretty fantastic! The deli is where you can find and take home just about anything they serve on the menu and more! There is a local seller called "The Jam Lady" that has pickles and preserves that you can purchase from the retail area. The only thing that disappoints me is that they don't have their dill sauce for sale in the freezer! I can't completely replicate the meals at home without it! read more

Ok the picture of that hamburger was exactly how it tasted I don't think I ever had a hamburger that was as bad as this one I sent it back and I won't be back. 711 has better burgers read more

Uncle Ed's Restaurant - I hope it taste better than it looks - Ukrainian Near Me - Edmonton, Alberta

This place is such a gem! Everything is always so hot, fresh, and affordable. Love those cheese buns!

Stopped in to purchase some meats and pierogis. This is where I am going to come every time! They sell Stawnichy's products which are a Ukrainian standard. The prices are super reasonable. I got beef jerky, kolbassa, and four packs of pierogis for $62. The place was clean and they have a very functional assembly line to get customers through fast. There is a restaurant there. I will definitely be going back to eat there some time too! I totally recommend checking this place out. read more

Busy busy place not open Sundays. Best Borsch in the city of Edmonton. You can eat in or take out frozen. Awesome Perogies actually awesome the entire menu :-) Prices are amazing and quality and quantity of food is also amazing. Could not recommend more we will be back! read more

Had the perogies with sausage, just average . The hamburger was a frozen patty, no taste, for juice. Sent it back, they took it off the bill. Won't come back here read more

Still pretty darn good after all these years! Haven't been to Uncle Ed's since they were in their old location. Food's still very tasty and the ambiance of this venue is much friendlier feeling than the old place. Staff was very attentive and friendly; well maybe not so much the deli counter ladies. Perogies, cabbage rolls, perishke were all smaller than 'traditional' (at least they were half the size of my mom's) but it was all made and cooked to perfection. Homemade pies are even better than Vi's For Pies, Fife'N'Dekel's or any local bakery I've ever tried. Only reason I didn't give full five stars was I felt the portion sizes were each smaller than they should be for the price. Still, highly recommended! read more

This is the cutest place ever. Tons of food you can purchase from freezer/fridge and gifts as well We have been here a couple of times now not one complaint both times the waitresses we beyond amazing and so funny! You have to get there early if you don't want to wait for seating it is such a busy busy place. Every time I have gone it was just phenomenal the food so yummy and actually our first time trying borscht and were in love! Definitely a need to go and experience please just all around perfect we will continue to go back! read more

I was feeling like I needed to wrap some of my heritage around myself and to me one of the best ways of doing that is to have some good oldfashioned comfort food, Growing up with my Baba and Giedo, this means authentic style Ukrainian food and Uncle Ed's promised this in their advertisements so I decided to go and test it out . I ordered the Beet Borscht which was delicious, it was just the right consistency, just the right amount of broth and vegetables. The taste was perfect with the right amount of seasoning. I was so delighted with this Beet Borscht that I was determined to order the larger bowl on my next visit. I also ordered a combination plate which consisted of the cheddar cheese and potato filled perogies, cabbage rolls with the sour cabbage filled with rice and some garlic sausage from Mundare. The perogies were very good and although similar to my Baba's not quite as good as her's were, but then my Baba's were exceptional and her filling was above and beyond the norm since hers were loaded with a filling of potato, cheddar cheese and cottage cheese. The cabbage rolls were a disappointment though. They were very tiny and the filling was just plain rice and there was no tomato sauce on them . They did taste good for what they were but I prefer the larger size cabbage rolls filled with some meat which is usually either fried side pork or some hamburger with some fried onions and then mixed with some cooked rice and seasoned tomato sauce and cooked in a seasoned tomato sauce. The sausage was quite good. I also ordered a piece of the homemade raisin pie which was delicious and did not disappoint. Overall I was quite satisfied and would highly recommend this authentic Ukrainian Restaraunt to anyone who enjoys real homestyle Ukrainian food. It was like wrapping a bit of nostalgia around me and took me back to when I was a little girl in my Baba's kitchen. read more

This is about as good as Ukrainian food gets in the YEG. If you have a Ukrainian Grandmother maybe you can get better but for those of us without such luck this is what you need to know. Perogies should be cottage cheese, cabbage rolls should be sour, meat should be a smoked pork chop. Get the dill sauce on the and rhubarb custard crumble pie is delicious! Now that you know all that you're ready to travel to the gritty east side and get delicious food, from friendly staff that have worked there since you were in kindergarten. Insider tip when you walk in go straight to the till and put your name on the list that's how they seat people and you don't want to get passed while they call others who came in after you. read more

I have been here dozens and dozens of times, and the food is consistently great, the service consistently friendly... sometimes a bit saucy! If you are craving Ukrainian food to eat out, or if you want Ukrainian food at home and don't want to make it, this is the place to go. Their fresh and frozen perogies, cabbage rolls and nylysknyky are all delicious and compare (almost) to what my Babas, Mom and Aunties used to make. They have great coffee too. So if you don't want to indulge in waist expanding delicious food, you can sit and chat over a great, endless cup of coffee. read more

My parents and I were looking for a quick meal of Ukrainian food and thought to check out Uncle Ed's. I hadn't been here in years. My mother's tomato soup and ham sandwich were delicious, the sauerkraut perogies and cabbage rolls were very good. Dad and I are very happy. Our waitress was very pleasant. The service was fast and the price is fantastic! read more

I came in for a late afternoon lunch. I had a cup of borscht, which was excellent. Then I had the #11 comb which included cheese pierogis, cabbage rolls, cheese bun? And 2 mini crepes. Everything was amazing. The waitresses were very nice and did a great job. I would highly recommend the restaurant to anyone! read more

I absolutely love this place. The food is always good, and the service is always fantastic. And, if you didn't get enough, you can always buy more to take home from the attached store. Honestly, by the time I finish my dinner, I am so full. There is no lack of food on your plate, and the prices can't be beat. read more

Uncle Ed's is a great place if you have a hankering for Ukrainian food. They have an authentic, extensive menu, and its all Stawnichy's meat. I suggest trying the smoked pork chop, over the standard kubasa - you won't be sorry. The prices are reasonable, and the servers are always willing to substitute (no cabbage rolls, extra perogies please), and even let you order off the senior's menu, when you are still years away from that distinction. My only complaint is that the perogies (which is what I am usually hankering) are often hit and miss. The taste is always good, but are often dried out and tough/chewy. I don't know if they make a bunch ahead of time and then reheat, but its not unusual to have yummy, tender perogies, and chewy, dried out perogies on the same plate. Thankfully they are all coated in butter, onions and bacon. All in all, its a perfectly acceptable place to go when you can't count on Baba. read more

Uncle Ed's serves up tasty, home-made Ukranian comfort food. Make sure you come with an appetite! The home-made pies are divine, especially the banana cream! My only complaint... is the servers. I have been there quite a few times and never once seen any of those girls crack a smile. They dont even say hello when you sit down. They take your order as fast as possible, they don't want to answer any questions or offer suggestions. When your food is ready, they drop it off and immediately turn and walk away, not once checking to see if everything is alright. Good food...as for the staff...if you do not like your job, find a new one. read more

We have dined here several times and the food and service is consistent. The waiting staff are quick, efficient, and get you your food fast. The food itself is very good. We go here when we want a good, hearty, and filling meal. The service is great, the portions large, and value for money is awesome. You can get a full meal for around $12 or so depending on what you order. We are good eaters and cannot finish the plates of food. Keep in mind this is a fairly large company and a lot of the food is pre-made, frozen then thawed, and cooked in their kitchen. This is NOT a bad thing as a lot of Ukrainian food is easily made fresh, frozen, thawed, and as good as the original. They have a GREAT store attached to the restaurant with some very good home-made confectionaries such as pickled veggies, condiments, and such. It seems that a lot of what they sell in the restaurant you can buy in the store as well. A good thing, as a lot of what they sell in the restaurant is very worthy of bringing home. We bought some borcht (sp) and brought it home and enjoyed it at a later date. Unthaw it, dollop of fresh sour cream, and it was pure heaven. We love the store as they sell local foods. The pickled beets are incredible (I am going to have one now!) and the Hairy Hill Mustard is world class. And actually made in Alberta! Yay! The staff in the store are awesome, helpful, and the selection is great. Then again, this is a restaurant review and we will be back soon. Only go with an empty stomach as you will need room for the massive portions and the fact the food is so tasty you don't want to stop eating it. 4 star review, WELL deserved. read more

Another great place. I swear that it tastes like how grandma used to make it. Some times it's hard to get a table it's so busy

I grew up on my grandmother's home cooked Ukrainian food - and this is where I go when in Edmonton to eat equally good authentic Ukrainian home cooking. You can even see the lady's in the back kitchen putting TLC into each perogy they make....just like my grandma used to do. (It helps that there is a large dollop of sauteed onions and bacon covered with sour cream...) read more

Great Ukranian food - love the borscht (very beety). They close early (7PM) so go there for an early supper. Definately Baba & Gido friendly. read more

Average perogies but stonechies (sorry if i spelt that wrong) is amazing.

I come to Uncle Ed's a few times a year for their kielbasa, and am usually quite happy with it. However, after my experience today I don't plan on returning again. The wait time to be seated was long enough that I was considering walking out, even though there were multiple tables empty and cleaned, as well as many staff members who did not appear to be particularly busy doing anything. Once finally seated, we were given our menus and expected to order drinks right then, before we had been given a chance to see what there was. The waitress was terse and unfriendly. I ordered the tomato soup for a change, and at least the food was good enough, as well as cheap, which is the only reason I have given two stars. read more

When you need a Ukranian food fix, this is the place to go. Restaurant is super clean, and the attached deli is nice to pick some stuff up on the way out. Huge menu with all the traditional food and tastes great. I recommend the potato and cottage cheese perogies, Nalysnyky, baked cheese buns, cabbage rolls, order of sausage read more

We love this restaurant. It is a regular stop for our entire family. You may have to wait awhile as they can be quite busy especially on weekends. This is not normally a problem during the week. The excellent food makes the wait worthwhile. We've tried many different items on their menu and have never been disappointed. The borsht and sauerkraut soup are amazing. The homemade pies are great. This restaurant is always clean. The staff is friendly and get to know their regulars. Uncle Ed's never disappoints. Would highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food and value for your money. read more
