I visited The Don Cesar for a day. While I was there I had to stop at Uncle Andy's ice cream parlor. The workers are very nice and let you sample lots of flavors. I got the mango gelato, was very good. Although it was $6.00 for a single. Which was half of a cup. Which was weird. I loved how the inside looked, lots of pink. You can also buy candy, coffee, sandwiches and more. Over all it was a good experience. Definitely would go again. read more

Located on the ground level of the beautiful Don Cesar Hotel, this oasis of goodies and coffee is exactly what we needed and when we needed it. When you walk by Uncle Andy's Ice Cream Parlor, you can't help but feel pulled in by the sights of the brightly highlighted coffee and ice cream bar. Once inside the shop, you're immediately surrounded by shelves and tables of snacks and goodies. They have just about everything you would need in one spot from breakfast and lunch sandwiches, which they heat up for you upon request, to chocolates, liquor, and snacks. There's definitely something for everyone at Uncle Andy's! The folks there are so helpful and accomodating, as they even offer to allow you to place your order with the restaurant next door and take it to go from Uncle Andy's! Right outside the doors of this amazing coffee shop is the courtyard leading to the beach. We carried our breakfast and coffee out toward the beach to the couches, where we enjoyed the sunrise and breakfast with a view. I came here after an event at the Don Cesar and was greeted by Billy and Billy. Tall Billy is the first and best ice cream barista bartender I've ever met! If you ask him for a surprise flavor, he will mix up a different ice creams to create a wonderful and unique flavor. The staff here is super friendly. If you order a kid's scoop, they hook you up! All the ice cream is homemade and delicious. The pastries are also scrumptious. Their whole wheat croissant is actually pretty good, even though it sounds boring. We came and met the most genuine individuals working at this parlor. This place is so cool because you can actually get half scoops. So if you want a small, one scoop of ice cream, you can get still two different flavors. I don't eat a lot of ice cream so this is new to me! The workers were very friendly and helpful. I had fun coming in here. They have flavors of the month and their top seller is Captain Butterscotch. I was highly impressed at the strategic move of Don Cesar placing Uncle Andy's right when you enter the building from the beach/pool area! What better time to eat ice cream than after some fun in the sun? We came inside for a 4PM vanilla with caramel syrup milkshake. Peterson (? don't know the name) reinforced our indulgence by saying that was a great choice, and he continued to make great small talk with us as he generously gave us what looked like 20 ounces of pure vanilla and caramel bliss. The 16-ounce shake was $8, but that means it's only 50 cents an ounce, so why not?? This shake was so creamy and divine! It was incredibly thiccc and had a plentiful amount of caramel - both in the shake and also on the cup. It was a wonderful way to end our lunch and transition into our food coma! read more

One thing that St. Pete beach seems to have a ton of is ice cream shops. This one is tucked into the ground floor of the Don CeSar, in the big pink monolith's shopping arcade. They have a wide variety of locally made ice creams, and you can get sundaes and banana splits as well. My sundae was kinda small - not that I expected anything massive for the price at the Don! Maybe I should get the sundae-in-a-sand-pail option next time. I have been coming to the ice cream parlor since I was a small child and it was once one of the gems of St. Pete Beach. So I was sad to discover this week that the old ice cream parlor is no longer here. Instead, the new management has relocated the ice cream to a new space that is less of an ice cream parlor and more of a one-stop coffee/sundries/gift shop stop for hotel guests. The new space has all the charm of an airport convenience store. It's just awful. They also only serve about 6-8 flavors of ice cream and will charge you more than $5 for a tiny half-cup serving, which you can enjoy while surrounded by stacks of t-shirts and shelves filled with overpriced bags of chips. What an absolute shame. The new owners of the Don clearly made a big mistake when they decided to make this change. As anyone who reads these reviews can see, this ice cream parlor was beloved and should have been lovingly maintained. I can only hope that the new ownership will reconsider this decision and restore the old parlor in the future, as I'm sure my review will not be the only 1-star review forthcoming. This place was packed when we stopped by after dinner. I got two half scoops in a cup (which was plenty, considering that two half scoops is one scoop elsewhere). I ordered a half scoop of the Oreo Espresso (amazing) and a half scoop of the chocolate chip cookie dough. They got my order wrong and gave me the cookies and cream instead of the cookie dough for my second choice, but I was not disappointed. Very good old style ice cream. Back when I was a kid, Uncle Andy's was just so-so. However, in the past 10+ years or so, they've really improved the quality of their ice cream. The ice cream is rich, flavorful, and on point. They offer a nice variety of flavors, shakes, sundaes, etc. the servers are usually courteous and friendly--service with a smile. They also offer a variety of candies/confectionaries, cookies, pastries, etc, as well as morning coffee. Amazingly, they've managed to maintain some old school games, including a Ms Pac-man table style arcade game. This adds to the old school charm of the facility. I remember coming here and having a really good malt back in the early 2000's so this past summer I had to try it again. Ever since "The Don" had been re-branded to the Lowe's extreme I worried if this place would lose its charm. My answer is it hasn't! The vanilla malt is still one of the best I've ever had and this is a place I'll try and go to each time I visit. Really good ice cream. Clean place located at street level in the Don César hotel. It lacks a bit in character but it's still nice. It stays open late until 10pm (at least when we visited). In the morning you can get coffee and pastries (We did). The ice cream was good enough that we stopped by 2 consecutive nights after dinner. You can get a kids cone (even for adults). We didn't get anything fancy like sundaes or banana splits so I didn't even pay attention to if they had them. Just a cup or cone please, with rainbow sprinkles will do nicely thank you. And a single scoop is enough, the scoops were generous. There a a handful of tables inside in air conditioned comfort or go outside and there are a couple of tables also. It's rather noisy from the air handler though. But you can always take your ice cream into the hotel and enjoy it in the first floor lounge area. read more

Ice cream makes me happy. Ice cream on the beach, I am on cloud 9. Uncle Andy's been around forever. My best friend used to hang out here when she was in high school - and that was a LONG tme ago... I had banana pudding ice cream. I love banana cream pie - and when i go handel's ice cream, i get the same thing. It was quite banana-y. Had bits of nilla wafers. They have a wide variety of flavors including sorbets. The guys scooping ice cream and making sundaes were very friendly and cute. Maybe I'm biased because I've been coming here for going on twelve years now, but Uncle Andy's is absolutely one of the best ice cream shops on St. Pete Beach. We used to walk across the old drawbridge and treat ourselves to ice cream on lazy afternoons on our visits. Traveling across the bridge to the big pink fairy castle to get the best ice cream around is still worth it. It's definitely got an old-timey feel still, with old arcade games and vintage prints of the Don hanging on the walls. The coffee corner still stands for people who (for whatever forsaken reason) don't want ice cream. The coffee smell just adds to the charm. The ice cream itself definitely has that homemade taste. It's not super-smooth like superstore brand ice cream would be, but you can feel the texture of it. The flavors aren't extremely plentiful, but what they have are classics and perfect. Their malts and sundaes are supposed to be pretty good, but I've never strayed from my chocolate scoops!! The only real complaint is wow, super pricey. It should come expected, though, given that it is there as part of the Don Ce Sar Resort. It was about $14 for two separate cones, and then a ridiculous $7 for two bottles of water (what!?). The memories I have with this place may make me lean towards five stars, but I think it deserves it either way. read more

Uncle Andy's is one of the best places to go for ice cream. Along with the vintage feel, the ice cream is always delicious. The smell inside is heavenly, a mix of ice cream and fresh coffee. Only reason for the 4 star review is the price: For a deluxe Oreo cone with a single scoop (pro tip: getting a waffle cone with a single scoop is the best deal; the servers fill it all the way up), it is 7 dollars in change.
