I could be considered a Sushi connoisseur in a way which I do browse around the web reading reviews…read morerelating to sushi location recommendation. Although there many places with 4 out 5 stars or 2 out 3 stars, and 5 out of 5 stars etc..I personally have 3 criteria that I could immediate identify if I should continue or not. 1) The Name of the business 2) 85% taste consistency from all the reviews & services 3) The creativity of style without losing the tradition of the core value of eating Sushi - originated from Japan. Those who wish for an "authentic Japanese sushi" experience should definitely take tour to Japan for a vacation. There are wonderful Sushi locations designed for tourist attractions that you could find by searching on google. I recommend it. Anyway, the topic of "authenticity" is to me isn't of value as there are many great sushi chefs who are striving to create authenticity of eating sushi in the 21st century or 2023 and so on. Sometimes, old flavors don't necessarily be the flavor that the newer generation would prefer and thus, could lead to the art of sushi being forgotten over time. That's why to me, creativity while maintaining traditional value of the art of making sushi by skilled sushi chef matters. They are helping preserve tradition while attempting to create tastier dishes. This is just my opinion and appreciation of culture, craftsmanship, and simply because I enjoy the flavor within a "simple" dish. I'm from CA, USA. I Heard about Mika Sushi Bar and I love the name because it's I know and expect it to be a sushi bar meaning 99% of time would have Japanese type of design theme which makes the experience of eating sushi that much better at the location, at least that's what I think. Mika Sushi Bar is located in Québec, Canada... I know right. Pretty far but it met my requirements and I planned it out. I had to be in New York to promote my business and took the opportunity to drive across the border to Quebec Canada which was right next door. I arrived in even at Mika Sushi Bar and immediately it felt wonderful because it was packed but wasn't full. All tables and bar stools were occupied but it didn't feel cramped or hot. The temperature was perfect the color and theme was spot on. Let just the sushi was great as well. The chef was creative with using various ingredients to prepare his sushi dishes. They used various form of "seaweed wrappings with different colors and textures." It worked out really well with the rest of the ingredients that was carried by the sea food selection as source of flavor. It was far from CA, USA and most people may not be able to travel that distance to experience Mika Sushi Bar. However, if there is an opportunity then I definitely recommend anybody who enjoy sushi to make Mika Sushi Bar a destination for an amazing sushi dinner with the wife or husband or family or friends or like me, by myself. lol

I looked online at their menu but was surprised that the same options weren't available at the table as the takeout. So due to the limited options, rather than choosing the sushi individually, we chose the boat!! (made for four). The sushis were good. But what was impressive was how many people came in on a Friday night for takeout. They had a staff of 5 all preping the takeout orders. This might explain why their takeout menu favours them. I've had bad sushi (from a grocery), I've had really good sushi that I savoured. These were ok. I was disappointed that there weren't many specialty sushis in our boat. The Soya was bland. Service was friendly and quick. The place was clean and modern. Romantic and chique. It has many positives but I left stuffed but no impressed. Maybe since I've had excellent, my bar might be a little high. I think it would be fine to takeout and enjoy it at home. Enjoy!!

POINTS: Restaurant vibes - Overall incredible. Decor is beautiful and so functional (plus one for having individual water fountains for refillable drinks). I really love how the private stall seating ensures privacy to allow people with low social batteries to enjoy food without having to deal with the usual social interactions required for in person dining. Food - A bit overpriced for portion sizing (but also understandable and still worth it for the occasional treat). I personally enjoy the appetizers the most. But the ramen is quite flavourful and soothing for cold winters. Service - Speedy and friendly, I give them props for being able to manage that many stalls with so much efficiency :)

Place looked really cool. Has the traditional individual stalls where they serve you by lifting the bamboo blinds. They also have a section with tables where we ate at as we were 4 people. There is a bell where you push when you are ready to order and once pushed, a waitress magically appears at your table. The order taking was fast and efficient however the food deliver to the table was another matter. We ordered several appetizers, three ramen bowls and one pork tonkatsu. The first appetizer, the octopus balls came out in about 15 minutes along with one is the main course, the tonkatsu 5 minutes later. The tonkatsu was finished and the three other ramen bowls still did not come out yet, neither did the three other appetizers. The ramen finally came out another 12 minutes later but still no sign of the rest of the appetizers. I asked the waitress what's going on and she said it's coming? Patiently waiting another 15 minutes no appetizers. The waitress then came by and said they had no more fried tofu. We said just no problem and the two appetizers finally showed up. Not too sure what happened there but the table the came in a lot later after us received their appetizers and ramen bowls in super quick time, they actually received their entire meals before we received our appetizers. Taste wise the ramen broth was quite bland like it was diluted with water and warm not hot. The noodles had a decent texture, however, for 17$ it felt like we received a 10$ bowl of ramen. As a matter of fact, the fried tempura vegetables and chicken karrage appetizers were tiny for the price. Taste was ok. The tempura was very soggy with lots of oil, so it was not fried adequately. The pork katsu was expensive for 18$. Not too much food for what they are charging. The katsu was very very thin and small. Sauce was simply a mixture of soya and worstershire sauce. Another dish that should have been priced at 9.99$ The octopus balls were pretty good. It came with 4 decent size balls and probably the only thing that was tasty. Had high hopes at Kumamoto Ramen but everyone at the table was let down with the service and food considering the high prices. It's even more upsetting that a table is 5 that came in later got served way quicker than us. Overall rating I would give it a 2.5 out of 5.

The fare is simple but good - they have a few soups, salads, and starters, and offer a variety of sushis (hosomaki, maki, futomaki, nigiri, sashimi, fried options), rice paper rolls, and poke bowls. There are also a few desserts available. Lunch specials are much cheaper. Service is quick and polite, and complimentary mineral water is provided. There are also a few vegetarian/vegan options. A veggie person can definitely get a good meal there. I had their wakame salad, avocado hosomaki, and tofu hosomaki (6 pcs each). The food was quite good, and it came to 15.66$ including tax and tips. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for decent sushi near Snowdon for a reasonable price.

Poke places are now becoming yesterdays sushi places; meaning they are pretty much around every…read moreother corner; but as with sushi some are barely passable while others are notable. I was very pleased to find this one more the later. I had a good feeling when I saw their logo, concept and marketing looked pretty bright, fresh and clean --- not as cheesy or just plain, plain. What I really liked is that they have more-or-less four focuses on the menu; banh mi sandwiches, bubble tea (fruit and milk teas), Poke (tartares) and spring rolls. My friend and I tried three of the four on one late afternoon visit to their small but mighty upstairs shop. The results of which were above average in presentation or taste. Let's go through them one-by-one. First the traditional banh mi was excellent. The roll was not too soft, nor too hard, nor too crumbly --- call it the goldilocks of buns and the fillings were not too rich, greasy or al dente and married tastes well for a good bite to the last. Two things, I did note were there were some unchewable ends of one filling, and come to think of it I don't recall a noticeable amount of cilantro which to me brightens up the whole package. Still I ate it up until gone. This item was well priced for value. The second of the food items was their salmon tartare stack which looked pretty close to the photo; was quite fresh and colorful; but sadly did not have that rich umami thing going on which many memorable tartares do (sometimes to the point of too rich). The tomato was chopped nicely but not ripe enough and was too plentiful. Even though it was decently priced at $15, there could have had a better salmon-to-tomato-to-avocado-ratio. The rice was fine, but not the top notch authentic sushi rice you find at highly skilled Japanese restaurants. Also I would have rather seen more of everything else and skipped the two crostinis which were not toasted (simply sliced baguette). This menu item was the biggest disappointment and easily the weakest link of the three. To wash it down we both got their $7 (a decent size but, still a bit expensive in my opinion, but sadly par for the course these days) brown sugar milk tea. It was well balanced, not too sweet and with plenty of boba balls. I did notice that the brown sugar syrup did not dissolve all the way without me scraping the excess off the sides of the cup; a somewhat minor, yet obvious imperfection. Overall, this cute shop with one table, two seats and a window front counter, was perfect for what we needed --- a light late lunch that was fairly healthy. On some levels it was only a three, but the ladies behind the counter were hard working and pleasant. Plus, it was quite clean and all was made freshly.
