I don't remember if masks are required, but the employees have them, and you should too. They have been giving away fabric washable masks there, in fact, as available. They encourage distancing, of course, and the stacks are labeled one way, though the times I have been there lately it is not at all crowded. They have plexiglass shields where you check out. They did some reorganizing when it they were closed. The DVDs are on regular shelves rather than rotating racks - easier to browse. Plus the non-fiction shelves have signs on the ends not only giving the Dewey decimal numbers in that aisle, but some subjects, such as Sports, History, True Crimea, etc. It is all good. As a general note, it is part of henLake a County library system now, which is handy as I can order stuff online from other libraries now and pick them up here in Eustis.

Small but friendly…read more The Astor Library is a small place, not a lot of room on the inside and certainly not much to look at from the outside. However it is one of the coziest, comfortable and friendliest library that I have been in. Not a lot of space but everything is arraigned with thought and purpose in mind. User friendly is an understatement for this library. The library doesn't have a lot of space for a large amount of books but it does have computers, wi-fi, a great used book section and a cool little spot for kids. Because of the great use of space and some considerable thought, this library functions as though it is much larger. Nothing is forced here and everything seems to be where it is suppose to be. As with all excellent libraries the best and most valuable assets here were the librarians. Amazingly friendly and pleasant, we talked with them about the history and present things in town and they managed to entertain and edify us without missing a beat on their library tasks. Other people would come and go and just kind of flowed into and out of the conversations. This is definitely not the type of place to tell you to be quiet. A little library that doesn't look like much on the outside but we were able to learn so much without even trying and had a great time every second we were here. We were sorry to leave and even more sorry that we didn't live closer. A wonderful place that does everything a library is suppose to do and also manages to do so much more.

Substance over style…read more Sorrento Florida isn't a very large town, I believe it has less than one thousand people living there. One of those quiet little towns that is easy to pass right by without even noticing. The town library is the same way, unassuming and quiet, located on a side street it takes a bit of effort to find if you don't know exactly where to look. The library certainly isn't much to look at. Not ugly or intrusive, just plain and functional. Probably like a lot of things in this town the library values substance over style and doesn't try to be something it isn't. I was surprised when the librarian told me that the library is only ten years old. Before that the people in the town had to go up to the Mount Dora library if they wanted books. This is one of those places that is impossible to tell how old it is and will probably look exactly the same one hundred years from now. The library is small but very friendly and useful. Everything is laid out in a practical if not exactly aesthetically pleasing manner. A place where no one will ever hush you or speak harshly to you. A little library that suits the town perfectly.

Upon arriving, there was parking all around the building. After I parked, I noticed there was a round about to walk around outside and a couple spots by the ponds to read! I went inside the library, and it was very organized. Spots around downstairs and upstairs to study or read. There were private rooms for rent. For the most part, I was able to read and concentrate. However, towards the end, there were kids upstairs that were being loud and I couldn't concentrate anymore. I didn't know this library was different than the Orange County library. I thought it was the same, but thankfully, getting a new library card was simple. I found the 2 books I was looking for! There's book returns both inside and outside of the library!
