The reason given was that when your car breaks down or fails to start one snowy morning, your local mechanic who knows you is more likely to come and help you that some stranger from the big corporate gas station/convenience store. So, when I moved to Ottawa and settled in this area, I chose Riverside Service Centre as the independent place I would frequent. And, it has paid off. What personalized service I get now that I have been there a few times. Even when there are times when the gas is more expensive, I still shop there to build the bridges. I hope I never have to call on them, but at least they know my name and my face when and if I ever do need them!

Easily accessible if you're going eastbound on Meadowlands or southbound on Merivale, not so easily accessible if you're coming from other directions. The thing I like about this Esso is that it's always a few cents cheaper than other Esso locations nearby. It's definitely cheaper than the Esso near by house, and while I wouldn't drive all the way there just to gas up, if I'm in the area for other reasons, I'll fill up at this Esso over the Esso near my house. There are a good number of pumps and it's spacious. You can collect Optimum points at Esso, and if you have the Optimum App, they sometimes offer bonus points when you fuel up ;)

Tried…read moretalking to the cashier (with the manager present) and was told we payed for a car wash, when we didn't. Refused to give us the other $15 in gas that we payed for, so we left. Very unimpressed, especially with the fact the manager should have handled the situation, but instead left the cashier to do so.

Did some Internet research, bought an OBD2 unit for $120 and found the problem myself... a loose gas cap. Now I'm questioning the new battery they installed as well as the brake job they did. Anyone working in a service station should know that any vehicle should be moving while turning the wheels. Otherwise, it's hard on the power steering pump, the entire steering system, as well as the transaxles. The attendant who drove my car out of the bay when I went to pick it up is either ignorant of this fact or trying to drum up more unnecessary repairs. Either way, he shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of any customer vehicle. Never again.

This is one of the few in the Nation's capital, located at the corner of Island Park & Wellington, in Westboro. If you don't know what a full-service gas station is, it is the crackpot misfit in the Corporate Gas Station world. This service peculiarity provides a personal touch, that was once a cornerstone of the industry, where staff attended to customers in a uniform complete with a cap and bow tie. Staff filled the tank, checked my windshieldwasher fluid & oil, squeegeed the windows & lights, and offered to test my tire pressure, all while I grooved to the beat of my iPhone playlist. In the maze of retail corporations the litter the Capital City, I appreciate the old school atmosphere and service. Their service earns my loyalty.

It's located right at a roundabout though and I hate roundabouts, lol. There's an Esso gas station on the other side of the roundabout. I've only ever paid at the pump here, so I don't know what the customer service is like but I've never had any problems. They do not have hand sanitizer dispensers by the pumps though, like Esso does across the roundabout. They have a number of pumps, but they are all 2 deep, so if you're the "back car" and the "front car" is not yet finished, and the pumps next to you or next to the car in front of you are occupied, you will have to back up. You can drive around is there's no one next to you, or if you're at an "end pump."
