Pretty decent for such a small place. The bad: Staff could care less and cannot look customers in the eyes. That was the only bad part of it. Good selection for such a small place. I read this book this summer - it was one of those tiny, feel-good, advice, chicken soup kind of…read moredeals and one of the pieces of advice it offered was to get your gas from your local, independent gas station/service centre. The reason given was that when your car breaks down or fails to start one snowy morning, your local mechanic who knows you is more likely to come and help you that some stranger from the big corporate gas station/convenience store. So, when I moved to Ottawa and settled in this area, I chose Riverside Service Centre as the independent place I would frequent. And, it has paid off. What personalized service I get now that I have been there a few times. Even when there are times when the gas is more expensive, I still shop there to build the bridges. I hope I never have to call on them, but at least they know my name and my face when and if I ever do need them!

This is always my go-to spot for gas. The prices are always reasonable (*especially* for being so…read moreclose to downtown!), and this station, for whatever reason, easily accepts my U.S. credit card at the pump, without me having to go inside and wait in line for the cashier (Petro-Canada, I'm looking at you!). It's also right off the freeway, so it's not a hassle and I don't ever feel like I'm going out of my way to find the cheap gas. Other than that, it's pretty much your standard gas station!

The attendant who "served" me gave me nothing but attitude and rudeness from the moment I walked in - he looked visibly annoyed that I was there (interrupting his conversation). After several rude and disinterested interactions I became annoyed and we ended up exchanging words. It was at this time that he accused me of being a racist, declared that he was the owner of the gas station (doubtful, he looked like he was in his late 20's or early 30's) and told me to get out of "his gas station" (still hadn't removed the headphones from his ears). Not sure what it is with the current generation but the idea of customer service seems to be dead. Certainly is at this location. I would suggest paying at the pump or going somewhere else.

It had steady business. I had no problem finding a free pump. I tried paying at the pump, but the authorization was declined. I tried it again and it did the same thing. It was odd. The reason why this review gets a high rating is my seeking help from the man at the convenience store attached to this gas station. I couldn't tell if it was an issue with my credit card or the pump. I asked if he could pre-approve an amount for me. We went through the process of approving $70 worth of gas on my credit card. This transaction was also denied. It proved to me that there was something weird happening with my credit card. I thanked him for his efforts troubleshooting with me. I sat in my car and called my credit card company. It is known to do fraud checks. It decided to initiate a check and put a hold on my card when I tried to pay for gas at the pump. I find my credit card company to be odd. I've been in Ottawa for a week and you now flag a gas pre-authorization on it? I got the hold taken off my credit card. I was then able to pay at the pump. I swiped my Petro-Points card to earn points, my 407 ETR card to get a discount for each litre of gas, and them my credit card to pay. It worked at long last. Woo hoo! I successfully filled my gas tank up. I was happy. It was way too much work after lunch, but I'm glad that I was still alert. It's a decent gas station. I'd return here again to fill up my car's gas tank and hope that my credit card is hold-free due to a perhaps random fraud check. (238)
