Our guide, Alex, did not disappoint! He waited for us - even though we arrived 20 minutes late. He gave us the option to reschedule due to the weather but we decided to take the plunge in the rain. My ten year old daughter, who loves history, really enjoyed the tour along with myself and my sister. We learned a lot about the area's geography, historic naval battles, maritime trade, dreaded taxes, and even a witch story! Afterwards, we warmed up at Michael's Harborside and sampled some healthy servings of seafood and historic drinks from the 16th-18th centuries (all included in the price of the tour). Our guide answered a ton of questions and added in some interesting historic tidbits while we enjoyed our meal. After our meal we walked back to the sites he had showed us, just to take it all in and explore the area some more. I would recommend this tour for all ages. Our guided tour was led by Dave. He is so knowledgeable and an avid history buff. His personality is perfect for this historical and important museum. We also toured the Folsom Tavern and it was equally interesting and a beautiful space. Elizabeth in the gift shop was so wonderful and helpful. The gift shop is filled with so many great items. My spouse bought two books to collect in the library where she works. This is a local NH gem and an important part of NH history. I'm so glad I discovered the American Independence Museum. The tour was 1 hour, and they accept both cash or card for admission. It went through each family member that lived in the house, including one of their notable slaves (and later domestic servant), Prince Whipple, who wrote a petition to New Hampshire in 1779 asking to end slavery in the state. Each room included antique furniture and other interesting things to look at. After the tour we explored the garden which was very peaceful. The Moffatt-Ladd House is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Portsmouth. Definitely a must see while you're here.

Getting there was easy and parking was not bad ($10 cash for the day). You walk to the pier and there's a man with a clipboard you check in with. We left the dock a bit before 2 and the whole trip took about 4 hours. We were lucky enough to see 5 different whales and group of dolphins. The workers were polite and knowledgeable. They do sell snacks, drinks, beer, and some hot food on board (and take cards).
