Very disturbing experience with the owner of this place.
This was MY experience. Noone, especially a family member, is qualified to defend her actions toward me.
I had been diagnosed with a health issue that has caused ongoing hair loss. After noticing the "Wigs" sign advertising from Rt. 1, I attempted to check it out, but, could never find anyone there. So I placed a call and the "owner" answered. I explained my situation, and, asked about wigs and extensions. She was quite insistant that I see her, and only her, for consultation and service.
My first appointment was cordial enough, though I felt a need to keep explaining the look I hoped to achieve. I found it a bit odd that she kept placing her (limited) supply of wigs on my head, that looked nothing like the photos I showed to clarify the way I had worn my hair. Her choices looked like something from a 70's prom night ... and very fake! She then handed me some books to juggle on my lap and sift through pictures, which was tricky and stressful. Regardless ...I desperately needed to do something about my situation. After an exhausting attempt to succeed, I had finally found a couple of good/potential matches, and, I was thrilled.
At that point, I explained that it would be helptful to have my hair trimmed in the CROWN area to give it some height and POSSIBLY color it, if it could be done with careful consideration of the unusual recession. This was NOT instead of the wig, just the hope to get some improvement, should it start to grow. She agreed.
Upon my return the next week, she noted that my hair "looked good", and, I told her I was excited that the back had seen some growth for the first time in months. However, as she snipped away at the BACK, in "cookie-cutter" fashion, I explained again my concerns. She handed me a mirror, with obvious impatience, and then quickly finished me off! I had no idea what the heck she had done, and, I skipped the blow dry. She strongly stated that I needed to "trust her" as she'd been "doing this for 30 years". Upon returning home that day, I got a true look at the back which was hollowed out again, while the top had hardly been touched!
I called the salon a few days later, cancelled the color, but kept the wig appt.which I needed more than ever!
Upon my third visit, she greeted me with a sharp tone of voice.. "WELL. WHAT ARE WE DOING TODAY?" I then explained I only wanted to consider the wig option, as I stated my hair was not looking good enough to justify color. I did not place any blame on her, nor did I speak about the damage she had done. Still, she blurted out "That's not my fault!" (while a customer was still within ear shot). She clearly knew my hair did not look so good this time around. I was there for one reason now, to purchase the wig, nothing more.
She proceeded to shove one wig on my head, then dropped the books in my lap and impatiently told me to choose something, stating how busy she was, even though this was a scheduled appointment. (I never saw more than one or two people in there, on the two days a week that she works). When I managed to find the right pieces, she upped the price by $50.00 on both. From there things deteriorated, further, saying she "HAD WASTED SO MUCH TIME ON ME", and I should just go home and call her, when I make up my mind! I then stated that I did not appreciate the difficulty of trying to choose something this important from a ton of books in my lap, and, why was there no table for 'customers' to place the books. Smiling, sarcastically ... "I don't have one", adding "I don't really do much with wigs anyway ,,,, I'm much more a professional stylist FOR 30 YEARS!!" Now she was on a roll, "You know you are one of the worst customers I've ever had", smiling sadistically, as ever. I left without a word, as part of my health issue involves avoiding stress for cardiac reasons. She lucked out!
She obviously thought she was entitled to say and do whatever she wanted without any repercussions, based on the fact that she's been "DOING IT FOR 30 YEARS".
Who cares!
Noone deserves to be treated this way, and, I intend to share my experience with family, friends, and Salon/Owner from MA ... ALL of whom own summer property in Wells, not to mention my new neighborhood, and espepcially anyone in a similar situation as mine. My dear wonderful stylist in MA will see me next week, and, although her salon does not carry extensions & wigs, she is going to assist me in finding a good source. The difference in that level of professionalism is not only in how good she makes you look, but, in how good she makes you feel. She has talent (you have to book her well in advance)) integrity, conscience, and a heart .... none of which I encountered at this Little Shop of Horrors.
(It was interesting to hear a client telling owner "write it down this time" when making her appointment). read more
