Sadly, since writing my initial 5 star review a few years back, the newness has worn off and UDC's true colors have shone through. In the beginning this studio was like a dream come true and everything I did post in my initial rating I will not take back because AT THAT TIME it was all true. Things change. I cannot in good conscience allow the STARS to remain. They are no longer worthy of them. All good things do come to an end. Boy things sure did take a nosedive into UGLY. Seems to me they got a little too big for their britches. Let's see, where do I begin? Let's begin right where you would if you were to walk in, the front desk. Reception personnel is unprofessional and under qualified even for this entry level menial position. Let's just say, overhearing her brag to parents about her former days as a stripper left very little to be desired. Moving right along to the faculty. Best words to describe a few of them are two faced, immature, deceitful, childish and extremely shady. Disheartening is putting it mildly when you witness firsthand, ADULT faculty, directors in fact, engaging in online bullying on Instagram of former students and encouraging and rallying their current students to do the same. This is not only pathetic but very troubling and contradictory to everything UDC claims to stand for. This activity doesn't seem to convey the "uplifting, supportive, and motivating environment" that UDC advertises to be on their website. These team DIRECTORS should be setting a positive example for their students past and present and should NOT be engaging in or encouraging ANY name calling, taunting, or bullying to ANY students past or present. Now on to the class structure and instruction. If you take your child there just for dance fun and not to advance, then that's the place for you. If your child is looking to continuously grow and be challenged, then you may want to check around. During my daughter's last year there she described the classes as boring and predictable. Same lessons, same methods, and all together stale learning environment. Classes are poorly constructed. There is no real defined since of levels. Beginner and Intermediate level dancers are too often mixed in with advanced level dancers. Makes for a slow class and a waste of money for parents with Int and Adv level kids whom are always dancing down to the less experienced dancers. The competence and professionalism left the building the day the EQUAL 3rd part owner, Jen D, who for the record was and is NOT A DISGRUNTLED employee was deviously and maliciously FORCED to leave by unethical and illegal tactics. The remaining owners represent nothing but greed, selfishness, and deceit and hide behind a false narrative of charity, kindness, inclusiveness, and acceptance. Wolves in sheep's clothing. All good things DO come to an End....what I once rated as top notch is now bottom of the barrel in my book. My initial 5 star review of UDC was while under the direction, dedication and strong leadership of Jen D. No regrets for time already served there. What once was my safe haven soon transitioned into a place that was no longer pleasant to be. 3 years ago this place was a 5 star hands down but now I can't even say they are worth 1. I craved growth and challenge and wasn't receiving it there. I have no regrets for the few years I spent at UDC. I learned SOME dance skills and A LOT of life lessons. I learned that people aren't always what they seem, and so many can't be trusted. Teachers/mentors, I thought I could trust let me down big time. Their true colors are now clear. It's ok though because I'm stronger for it. UDC was just another steppingstone in my dance training. On to the next level. People should just know how things DO change. UDC was once a great place for me but now, in my opinion it's a toxic environment and I would think twice about enrolling. Named "Best in Dance" for a reason! After leaving another dance studio with both my girls we landed here but it wasn't by chance. It is because we did our research! These owners want you to dance for them, and your school, and your community! They aren't scared or selfish, they want your child to pursue all of their passions. Professionally trained instructors!! Amazing instructors! Amazing dance families as well that all support each other. The most friendly knowledgeable front desk lady you'll ever meet! Great kids! Centrally located! My daughter danced at another studio in the area for 7 years. The best decision we ever made was coming to UDC 1 year ago. The students are given love, respect and encouragement no matter what level of dance they are at. My daughter has grown so much because of that.
