Barber & Tattoo Studio is close by my work so I though I'd give them a try instead of the place up the road which was always busy. I've not stopped coming back. Willy is the barber i see to but the owner also cuts. Willy's service is great. He's friendly and chatty and takes massive pride in his work. Never before have I had such service. On my first visit Willy asked me "Can i shape your beard"? "Sure" I said and he proceeded to shave it carefully with a cutthroat razor and an awesome smelling shave gel. Suddenly I had a new look and came out feeling pampered. People comment every time Willy has done his magic. Many of my friends and colleagues now come here too. Just rock up from mid morning, I avoid lunchtimes as there's often a line. I can't speak for the tattoos as I haven't plucked up the courage yet...

Based on this, I'm highly recommending this Mt Eden barber shop. New Way Barbers is in the 8 Nugent complex and must already get a lot of patronage from local businessmen and from the gym across the way. Based on the handsome new look Bald Eagles from the Shave for a Cure event, I can also imagine men come from far and wide to use their services. The barber shop has a masculine feel, it's a place where a guy would feel comfortable getting a haircut. They are obviously Mohamed Ali fans because there is a lot of the famous boxers photography displayed on the walls. They have all of the essential guy hair products top.

He prides himself on 30 years cutting hair and does an ok job but it hurts as his comb hits your scalp. He has also jacked up his price to $50 bucks. When I stated that it was less and has he increased his price he flew off the handle. "I am fasting ..." "You are worst customer..." Wow - this dude is a psycho. They seemed to be taking an awful of time with each of the clients and guys were coming in who had appointments booked. People came and went and they did not acknowledge me at all. I was getting pissed off at this stage and it was beginning to dawn on me that this was a bit of David Beckham place. Until I found Barkers Groom Room. It's upstairs from the Barkers shop in High Street and you can't get a better barber than this. You can make an appointment online, over the phone or just try your luck with a walk-in. It's decor is great and there is a large waiting area with a huge leather couch and more magazines than you could need. All cuts come with a free drink (whiskey, bourbon, soft drink or a coffee from the barista downstairs). There's a few options for a cut. A standard one for $39. $44 gets you a wash and hot facial towel and $59 adds in a wet shave (I can't think of another place off the top of my head that does a wet shave). Excellent value for money. The stylists are friendly and offer good advice and can do a basic cut if that's what you want. But they can also style your hair and do a wide range of options which is great as some barbers can be limited to a basic cut. Overall, this is my new hairdresser and I'm hooked. You won't find one better than this in my opinion.
