This review is specifically for Marcie. In fact, I was going to leave a one star review for my last trip here due to my horrendous experience with the Juice representative and having my car towed simply for being parked while shopping. However; Marcie (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly) was a delight that day, and the reason I returned (and risked another car tow - if that doesn't speak volumes as to Marcie's down to earth personality, attentive nature and sense of humor I don't know what will) today. This is a busy Ulta - so busy that the multiple associates may be busy helping other customers such that you may have to ask for assistance. That said, I was lucky enough to have Marcie assist me twice now and she is knowledgeable of many products (I had some skin quirks, diff product requirements and requests - makeup, skincare, allergy issues...I was all over the place) and she is humble enough to ask others in the store for input on specific lines and additional information on the thousands of products available. I know Marcie is a manager for this Ulta, and as I mentioned - my car was towed at my last visit simply for being *parked* while shopping. That's right. During business hours, I was towed. While shopping. Ulta and all of the stores appear to be aware of this problem, but (as far as I can tell) don't post anything to advise their customers, and put their employees in the awful position of 1) shocked and unhappy customers thinking they've gone crazy and lost their cars or had them stolen only to discover they've been towed and now have to throw away TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN DOLLARS to retrieve their car and 2) apparently sometimes their own employees being towed simply for being at work. Correct - sometimes employees are towed while they are parked, in the parking lot of their job, while they are at work. I found that information out while looking for my car and running into employees from other stores who said their cars had been towed under the time "allowed" while they were at work, and it was a "real problem" - when I told them I was so upset by the whole ordeal that I was considering filing a lawsuit, I was told there were many others in the same position. But I digress. Marcie is a manager at this Ulta, and while I clearly hate the risk of being towed, I adore Marcie and she is an asset to this Ulta or any store/location...that said, it would behoove Ulta to promote her to district manager or any position where she could manage while motivating associates *and* keep otherwise ornery customers returning. They have been "temporarily closed" since September 20th and were supposed to be operating again on October 12th. Their miserable AI customer service says the store is open but all the services are blacked out so it quite obviously isn't. Is this a permanent closure? I can not believe the level of disrespect I encountered at Ultra Beauty. My experience with an employee named Jack with green hair was beyond appalling and utterly humiliating. First and foremost, I was scolded and berated like a child for daring to touch items out on the floor. Last time I checked I was a PAYING CUSTOMER, not an employee! Instead of offering assistance or politely informing me of any store policies, Jack decided to publicly shame me by yelling, "you can't touch those leave them alone!" That was very bold because I could have responded to her approach much worse because she took it there! Let's talk about the absurdity of the situation. The stock is out on the floor alongside the rest of the items. How am I supposed to know what's "off limits" and what's fair game? Maybe Ultra should consider cleaning up and organizing their store instead of dumping overstock in aisles with other products. Jacks's approach was not only wrong but also offensive and downright embarrassing. And I won't sugar coat this, it was definitely raciall motivated. As a customer who just spent $250 at this store I expected to be treated with respect, not subjected to discriminatory treatment. I work in the area and come to this location quite often. Ulta needs to do a better job of screening and training their employees to color match and service women of medium to darker skin tones. I can determine from some of their suggestions that they were not trained properly or they are not comfortable with Black skin tones. This is very disappointing. Holy cow... I'm not sure what happened, but this location used to be my favorite. The old store manager ran out all the good employees that actually cared about their jobs and the store and now... it's such a hot mess. There's lipstick smeared all over the floor and displays, the display makeup is wrecked, loose powder on just about every surface. The perfume selection is so absurdly small. There wasn't much help on the salesfloor, either. Several employees passed my friend and I on the floor and not once were we offered any assistance. We ultimately agreed to leave the premises as we could not find anything we were looking for and it felt that we were being stared at by the couple employees who did seem to notice us but it was feeling like they saw us as people who would steal. Anyways, I went to Sephora in oakbrook instead and was helped right away and found exactly what I needed. Rosa J.'s girls at work talk about nails often. When it comes to "beautifying," she's a minimalist. In fact, she hasn't applied any makeup for about four (4) years. Yes, ma'am. What you see is what you get on Rosa J.'s face. Fortunately, my face seems to age gracefully, yet my hands can get occasionally rough due to the physical labor I have to perform daily at my work place. I've been making a point to take care of my aging spots this year as part of my new-year resolution, including learning to give myself an at-home manicure. Obviously I'm a newbie to a beauty supply store like Ulta. Their ads are featured in the free, weekly Red Plum inserts. I thought it could be a good idea to check out one of the locations before work this morning. I gave myself a plenty of time, for I anticipated that such store like Ulta requires customers to be somewhat self-sufficient. However, I was offered assistance almost immediately upon walking into the store. "Are you finding everything ok?" "Yes, thank you," I replied, even though I was slightly distracted by the clearance section. I thought I was able to find the cuticle oil on my own. Oh no, never mind. I was a little too confident and that was why I declined the assistance at the beginning. When the same sales associate came around the second time, I bravely inquired her the section where cuticle oil was located. "Just a second, ma'am," she answered. I certainly didn't mind the wait since she was assisting another customer. Meanwhile, the cashier appeared to be free and volunteered to guide me to the right aisle. Honestly, I would have figured this out myself, but it would take me another thirty (30) minutes at least. I intended to use the coupon that I clipped last Tuesday from the Red Plum insert. Well, it has been expired. I didn't know Ulta has loyalty reward system similar to their competitors (Se*hora and Sa*ly's). The cashier got me signed up for free so that I could start earning points for every purchase. My experience at this Ulta location was quite positive. I wish some of the products I saw on their official website could be seen in-person, such as the various brands of cuticle oil. Nevertheless, I've got what I needed for this trip. read more

I came in today looking for a specific brand of color-sparing shampoo for a teen with newly home-dyed purple locks. Ulta carries the brand I needed, but not the specific variety; however 3 attentive & pleasant staffers tried to help! I found a suitable alternative for a good price. Also, big sale on Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo- half the price we usually pay at Jewel. Ulta has a reward program, which is nice. I don't spend enough to really benefit, but it's nice to have the option. The only downside to this store is the overwhelming perfume smell, but I can't imagine how that could be avoided. I just shop really quickly to avoid perfume-induced headaches. read more

Normally I have good experiences at this establishment, with helpful employees. Unfortunately we had an awful experience with VICTORIA - who claimed to be a manager (likely supervisor or assistant manager). She was rude, unhelpful, lied, and clearly doesn't understand customer service and building goodwill and loyalty. She's a liability in a sales environment where Ulta isn't selling anything unique, and customers can easily take their business and spend their $$$ anywhere else after a bad experience - which is what I will do. read more

This review is only for the Salon and Maritsa. Maritsa is an incredible hair stylist regardless if she was at Ulta Salon. She is great with haircuts (curly hair and wavy) , color, and highlights. Everyone in my household goes to her and we rave about how good she is. There staff her was unbelievably rude. I go to check out and there's five people behind the register area talking and I'm standing there waiting two minutes for someone to a knowledge me. Finally I say hi can I get some help. Then the staff member who was helping me was snarky and wouldn't help me figure out how to access my discount code on my app to the point I was like I'll just save it I guess... after I check out I ask if they have any samples I could try because every other ulta has samples and is nice about it. This girl goes like why would we give you a sample of anything? You need to sign up for a card or spend more then that. It was insane. I called in to make sure this store had one simple product in stock. I was told they.indeed had it and the women told me she would put it behind the counter for me. I arrived stood in line just for the associate to tell me it was out on the shelf and that the person I spoke to would show me where it was. I walked back with her and she attempted to sale me other items associated with the product that I did not want or need. The worst part though is when she became frustrated and rude when I did not purchase the other items. Like ma'am I had a point for asking you to put the item aside. Point is most of the associates are weird, aloof and rude. I don't recommend but if you must go get in and out. read more

I usually only review restaurants--however, I will make a few exceptions. For the most part, this is an okay Ulta Beauty store. However, the few times that I have been there, this is what I have CONSISTENTLY experienced: 1. WAIT TIME: As others have stated, there is typically only 1 or 2 cashiers--which means you are in line for 10-15 minutes. That might not seem like a long time at Whole Foods, but when you're at Ulta there is no reason to wait that long when there are 20 other employees just walking around spritzing themselves with perfumes and trying on make-up instead of serving as a helpful cashier. 2. NOT SO HELPFUL WITH THE INSULTS: I rarely ask for help, but both times that I have, then I end up getting told that I am "doing your make-up wrong" or "you are using the McDonald's of make up brands" or "you need preventative serum even at your age or when you are old you will have problems"--if I ask you for help with one product, you don't need to comment on the rest of my appearance. If I ask you for help matching one shade, you don't need to tell me five other parts of my face are wrong--just help me match the shade of my face. Thanks! 3. RUDE TO PAYING CUSTOMERS: I was recently in the store and a woman wanted help who did not speak English. The employees started ignoring her and just kept saying "no" to her. How helpful is that? Now I haven't spoken Spanish since AP Spanish in high school, but I helped her check out with a cashier because none of the (paid) employees would even attempt to help her. At the very least they could have pulled out a phone and translated things for her. I was actually shocked that in this part of Illinois grown adults would just ignore someone who had merchandize in her hands--merely because of a language difference. 4. MESSY: A lot of the shelves are a mess. Now some months are better than others, but down some of the aisles some of the displays have make up smeared all over them. Also there's no garbage near the perfumes which means those tester papers have nowhere to go. One would think with so many employees circling around asking you what help you need (but then dishing out more than you want), that one of them could bother lining the products back up or wiping things off or throwing away the mound of used applicators. I like Ulta, but this particular store needs to remember that their employees are there to serve a customer--not just walk around the store and test products on themselves. read more

Love the products obviously, but some workers there definitely have an attitude. They follow me and my friends around which is obviously reasonable, but they make it very obvious that they think we're stealing which we're not and it makes me uncomfortable because I'm just trying to try products on and talk to my friends. I had a very bad experience today especially because I bought 2 things and they tried to cut me short $4. (I payed with a $100 because I was expecting to get more stuff but didn't.) when I confronted the workers, they were not very nice and one worker even rolled her eyes. Sometimes if I ask a question it feels like they are not very willing to answer. I recommend going to the Sephora right across the street. Yesterday my eleven year old daughter came in with her friend, only to be reprimanded and sworn at by the manager and security guard. All of this in response to them looking at a product in an area that was off limits, once told that they were not allowed there they immediately moved and were still yelled at by the adults in the store. I love this Ulta! I have 3 teenagers so it is very overwhelming walking into a make up store with them. As soon as we walked in a woman name, Victoria immediately assisted us. Later, I found out she was the manager. She helped us to the very end. I also saw her encouraging staff and putting items back into its proper place while she was assisting us. I love stopping in Ulta and usually don't have any problems. Although a couple weeks ago I was walking around the store with one of my friends and decided to sit down at one of those chairs they have for doing makeup and trying things out. I didn't know that they had a brow waxing and touch up station so I accidentally sat in the area for that. After roughly a minute, an employee strongly walked over to the station and said with a rude attitude "You need to get off now. THAT is sanitized for the brow customers." I didn't take it to heart or anything and got off the chair to look for more makeup. She proceeded to give my friend and I dirty looks. I don't know if she thought we were stealing because we are only teenagers, but you shouldn't do that to anyone. Imagine I was a customer for the brow station and she did that... I will continue to shop here but i'm still a bit upset about the situation. read more

I do like Ulta because they have a lot of fun products and the prices range from high end to inexpensive. The store has a large variety and is generally stocked well. I usually purchase: shampoo, conditioner, face masks, make up, face cleanser and a variety of other products. They have a loyalty club that is fairly decent. The credit card is a big push which is generally annoying to me. I usually get asked at least twice, sometimes more. I also get the occasional long list of specials. I am generally a self sufficient shopper, I understand why they do it but sometimes it's a bit much for me. I get a constant stream of coupons in the mail which is nice but I always forget them and really wish they'd just attach it to the loyalty card. It is a good location though with lots of parking and the staff is generally nice. read more

I may never shop at this store again. I tried to book a brow trim online this morning but the system wouldn't let me. So while I was nearby I stopped in to see if I could get a quick trim. Not a brow wax. A trim that takes two minutes. They refused to take me because they were waiting on someone who called to push her appointment back by 15 minutes. i've been to many ulta's. has ulta lowered its standards? directly to this location, its filthy and their rude. it doesn't feel welcoming. there was 1 manager i believe, she had short dark curly hair, glasses and always looked put together as one should when working in this type of industry. she was friendly, inviting and didn't make me feel overwhelmed. she was great in helping me find what i needed and more. unfortunately, i havent seen her recently. sad if she was fired, good for her if she quit. who could blame her, she didn't belong here. most of the workers look a mess and unapproachable, which is probably why they don't engage with guest. all the managers should be held accountable for not keeping up with the store or themselves, including the general manager who i believe is the short one, is an aggressive seller. if these are the behaviors in selling, failed!! it pushes customers away! at the registers, the cashiers make it so difficult to make a purchase. if a customer doesn't have a loyalty card, their asking if you have a family member, bf or whomever. i'm assuming it counts against the company or the cashier. scary!! wow!!! that doesn't take the cake, this whole credit card thing is also very aggressive and overwhelming. i definitley would never return to this location. huge fail for me!!! your store is gross and nothing is ever stocked, get it together ulta. corporate needs to visit more often to see what the store looks like. read more

I stopped by here in need of a new foundation and a few beauty essentials. The store was pretty busy, as it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and everyone was apparently out and about. The displays weren't super organized and some of them were completely empty but otherwise, things were pretty easy to find. It took me a while to find an associate to help me find my foundation shade as the Chicago winter hasn't been kind to my tropical, Puerto Rican skin. Bianca helped me out and was pretty nice. Overall I found the other things I was looking for amidst bumping into people around the crowded aisles. read more

I walked in the store said hello to the security. Went straight to Fenty which near the entrance. I came to the store specifically to get a Fenry lip stain but they were sold out. As I'm looking at the lip stains I turn around and the security was discreetly staring my way I didn't think much of it at the time. Since the product was sold out I walked all the way to the end of the store to the Dermalogica and then as I turn around the security guard was on the aisle next to me so at that point I felt uncomfortable because I didn't take anything and I just wanted to enjoy my time browsing. It was obvious he was following me, this whole half of the store was empty I was the only customer in this side of the store. So I went up to the benefit brow bar where the only other two ppl on that side of the store were. One was the benefit brow person & the other person was someone who said they were a "manager". I went up to them and told them "hey Um I'm sorry but I noticed the security keeps following me...i feel a little uncomfortable do u need to check my bags ?" I was being as polite as I could've, I just wanted to continue to browse in peace without feeling like I was being followed or watched. The "manager" kinda chuckled/ giggled and said oh now he's just doing his rounds, then as we are talking the security guard walks all the way up to the benefit bar where I was and came up to me he said something along the lines as "what's the problem?" At that point I'm taken aback as that's exactly what I was avoiding- confrontation! And so then I look back at the two employees expecting them to Intervene. They didn't so I responded to him and said yeah "I just wanted to know if there was a reason why you were following me?" So then he said "lady ain't no body worried/ following you" and by his mannerisms and response he obviously was being rude and confrontational. So I told him "Don't call me lady & this is all so inappropriate as I was talking to them" i looked at the two employees and again nothing. So then I told him yeah well I mean if there's a reason then ok look at my bag ( I had a small black Fanny pack and Whole Foods grocery bag w food inside of it), he then said "go back to your shopping" and also asked if I was guilty and I replied "i can afford to buy myself what I want " but I felt so disrespected, so I asked him for his name twice, he didn't respond and walked away. I then asked the "manager" if it's ok for him to talk to me like this and confront me in this manner? The benefit brow person then turned and said to me "well you asked him a question" I literally was like WOW, and said "NO I came here to ask you two because I felt uncomfortable. There were other little comments made but since I was shocked, uncomfortable and pissed I don't remember all the details. I am dumbfounded as how the other women just stood there and didn't stop the situation or try to de-escalate the situation. The "manager" just kept saying "I understand why You feel uncomfortable". I also find it disturbing because I guarantee that if I was a white lady (this location is predominantly white) he wouldn't have talked to me like that. Im also sure the "manager" would have not let that conversation even begin. Ive been customer at this location since they opened and have never had any issues at this store before today. I've reached out to Ulta and hope to hear back from an actually manager of some sort. There is no way to make this situation right, I don't want anything but an apology. No one should ever feel uncomfortable and even uneasy, especially with all the anger and violence that occurs on a daily basis. I wasn't rude, I wasn't yelling, I was not behaving inappropriately there was no reason that I was treated with such disrespect. Even as he stood there making those disrespectful comments I remained calm Im not a Karen and definitely do not treat store employees or people in general in a rude manner, his behavior was unprofessional and unacceptable and the Ulta employees need to be retrained they lacked any type of customer service skills. read more

PSA: I went into Ulta reluctantly because I needed a few beauty items for my job interviews coming up and did not want to spend a lot (#budget). To my AMAZEMENT... This glorious establishment has their Ulta beauty line on a sale that BLEW ME AWAY. Their makeup was, literally, being given away... If their line of eyeliner (ANY TYPE: liquid, fat, skinny, gel, etc) cost $9... You can either get 2 FREE for the purchase of one.. Of get ANY ADDITIONAL TWO nail polish (all full size), lipstick, lip liner, lip gloss, etc... FREE!!!!!!! And this goes on for mascara, foundation, shadows... I mean... WHAT?! I was astounded, grateful and left out ready to KILL THE GAME. I am now a #ForeverFan because this was exactly what I needed, when I needed it and if anyone ones how much I love my beauty supplies... I have spent way too much money at Ulta. I won't step foot into this location, if any Ulta, ever again. I just bought a few items and spent a pretty penny at the Naperville location two days ago. When I went to check out I noticed that my $3.50 coupon expired. The girl at the counter stated that she would gladly give me that value as they always had coupons at the counter. It was only $3.50 but her attitude was appreciative and she was very helpful and chatty. Today I went to River Forest location. After sifting through the cosmetics to find some that had not been previously opened or used, I brought my $80 purchase to the counter. Dalia was the cashier. I stated that I couldn't find an Ulta coupon in my email (the usual way I find an Ulta coupon as I always forget the mailed flier at home) and she was silent. I asked if she had any coupons at the counter and she was short when she replied "we don't have those here". She asked if I wanted to use my points. I replied that I did not and said "well if you don't have a coupon that I can use, which is what I usually get when I come here, maybe I don't need to purchase this." She gladly took my products off the counter and threw them in containers behind the counter. Good job Ulta- you just lost a customer over $3.50. Hope it was worth it! read more

I moved to Chicago right before the pandemic so I could not find a stylist . I wanted to find a local place to do my hair and oh I am so glad I came to this ulta. I dyed my hair black for years and then I overused bleach my hair is so damaged , so I decided to experiment with fun colors . Blue purple etc . I wanted to find a place where the stylist wasn't gonna shame me for experimenting and was gonna be understanding . I wasn't expecting a lot giving the state of my hair , but oh wow! Melissa did an AMAZING job with my hair. I am so please with my haircut . And I'm definitely never gonna bleach my hair on my own again. Also this place was extremely clean . Do not get your hair cut and styled here. It has taken me two weeks to write this review because I have barely been able to think about anything other than how terrible my hair looks. The stylist did such a bad job I wish I could give zero stars... I just went somewhere else today to have it fixed and they were appalled at what was done to my hair. Below is a picture of my hair before it was fixed. A 5 year old would have done a better job. After spending $180 at ulta I just had to spend another $100 somewhere else and am finally able to look in the mirror. I will never let them touch my hair again. read more

On a mommy-daughter day, mom needed a few ulta items so I figured I would pick up a few of my products. I scoured the hair aisles looking for my products. When I couldn't find them, I approached a sales person "where would I find your kinky curly products?" "Our what?" "Kinky curly. It's a brand of hair care products." "I've never heard of that. We definitely don't carry that." Um, ok. Normally, I can get down with that. I went and looked through all of their mid-range hair products. Sure, they had products for curly hair. What they lacked was anything marketed towards the "natural" curly girl or ethnic hair. There were no mid-range products for the coarse textured girl that knows how to control frizz and wants to rock her natural hair. Ulta doesn't understand their curly haired consumer and are missing out on an entire market by their lack of knowledge. Most Caucasian curly girls have far coarser hair than black girls. End rant on their lack of knowledge/bias against "ethnic" hair care products. The store is super hard to understand it's layout. They tried to cram too much into a pretty small location as there is no rhyme or reason to how things are set up. read more
