I thought long and hard before writing this complaint: I experienced an unfortunate occurrence…read morewhile attempting to become a new, old patient to Lena Speck Hopkins. Dr.Lena Speck delivered my son 14 years ago, while practice with her father Dr. G Speck near Valley Baptist. My pregnancy and delivery with Dr. Speck was spectacular. I've bragged for years on my pregnancy care and if the day would come, Dr. Speck would be the physician most qualified to monitor and treat me once again. Monday Morning 9.27.21 after a 2 week wait for an appointment with Dr. Hopkins, I was excited to start a new journey under Dr. Hopkins. Upon arrival, I provide my name to the representative, I explained I didn't have my insurance cards, as they've been recently misplaced with all the physician offices I've had to attend (Post Covid Related). Although, I did provide my Providers Name and Group Number/ Policy information on the portal that was texted to me to fill out before the office visit. The Rep then stated she located my insurance information and it would be a $60 co-pay. I kindly mentioned that I have Medicaid as a secondary, although I don't have the Medicaid number. She stated she would verify and let me know, she later called me back to the window and stated that TMHP wasn't working. I told her, let me check if I have a picture or I'll try to retrieve the Medicaid information from my Primary Doctors office for them. At that point, I'm assuming (office Manager) stated I wouldn't be seen if I didn't present my Secondary insurance information (Medicaid). I then offered to pay the Copay and that when I get home, I'll call the office with my secondary insurance number and I can get reimbursed for the CO-PAYMENT. The woman then stated we don't retro payments, once they are given to the office it wouldn't be returned to the patient (In other words, the office would double dip for payment from Primary/Secondary, plus the co-payment). I mentioned to the woman that it was against CMS Regulations to not reimburse the overpayment to the proper payer, as well that a portal is required to verify insurance coverage for CMS Recipients. She then got agitated and stated if I had a problem for me to contact THMP (State Portal) and for them to explain to me why it's down. She suggested for me to reschedule when I have all my insurance information. I then mentioned that I would pay the co-pay to be seen and I'll make a report with CMS and BBB. After three- Five minutes she called my name (after speaking with the doctor) to tell me that they would be refusing services for me since I made the situation worse when I mentioned I was going to make a complaint to CMS and BBB. I was in shock with the attitude of this woman, I mentioned that I would make this situation to be known to our Community leaders. I asked for her name and she stated "Cindy "I asked for last name and she refused to give it to me and stated she didn't have to. Which is alarming since this office has all my private information, yet I'm not allowed to get the last name of the person that is refusing services to me. The overall experience made me feel discriminated being a holder of Medicaid (Government funded) as a secondary. Thankfully, I've been in position that I've never needed government assistance until this pandemic situation (not permanently) and am saddened that I was treated in this manner. I'm aware that it's clear the physician's office would prefer the Co-Pay over the Medicaid reimbursement but how is that the patient's fault? This office's primary objective is money, that's the reason the office is full of Medical Aesthetic advertisements. This office is all about cash payments VS patient care and insurance claim payments. This experience was extremely different from the original values that Dr. G Speck operated under.
