This is a bit of a hidden gem in Belfast, for locals and visitors alike with family roots here. They offer a range of services which are relatively inexpensive, and the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
If you wanted to try to draw up a family tree or trace some of your ancestors, this is a great place to start. They apparently have access to over 2 million records, some of which date back over 200 years. Births, baptisms, marriages, burials... there are a lot of records at their disposal here.
It would take you quite a bit of time doing all this searching yourself, and the knowledge and experience of the staff means they could do it much more efficiently. You're not going to find much out if you're just here for an hour or two, and some searches carried out by the foundation can take over a month.
Still, it depends how much you want to know about your family history and how badly you want to know. I think a lot of visitors who are descended from families here would find it fascinating though. read more
