The worst experience that I had with a bank so far is with Ulster Bank.
20 days ago I went to a branch with an online application that I have previously made , in order to open a standard bank account.
Although I stated that I have done an online application, I had in my hand, I kept being told that I need an appointment. I stated that I have spoken to someone from their Customer Service and I have been advised to go to a branch without any appointment, with the online application received throught post, just to present the documents (1 proof of identity and 1 proof of address) and that's all.
I went to the branch from College Green, Dublin and immediately I have been asked about the appointment, showed them the online application, still being told that I need an appointment. I just said..ok..let's check the documents to see if they are alright. Again..on their website it is mentioned that thy accept ID cards as proof of identity ( my passport recently expired) and at the branch I have been told that they don't accept these anymore.
I insisted that it is mentioned on their website and after being checked by a manager , indeed, it turned out that it was acceptable.
After they finally realized that I had an online application, they said: "ohhh, so you have done this online..That's brilliant...Then indeed, you don't need an appointment" . They have photocopied the documents and I have just been told that I will receive the bank card in 5 days through post.
After 7 days of waiting, I called their Customer Service and I explained the situation. I have been told that due to a back log they had, they still did not process the application and that I will receive a message on my phone after the card is issued but that they can't give me an exact date.
After another 3 days, I have called again asking about the application and I have been told that it was declined and after I have been told the date, I realized was the same day I called to ask about the delay.
I have mentioned that I would like to know the reasons and I have been told they are confidential. I have been mentioned that if I want more information , I have to go to the branch. I was also mentioned that I would receive a letter through post in the following days.
I went to the branch and I have been told that I shouldn't have come there because they can't do anything about it, that I have to phone Customer Service. I have explained that I did and that I have been sent here. The lady that I spoke to at the branch called Customer Service and explained them the situation and that they should not have sent me here and after speaking on the phone with them, I received the same answer : "You don't meet our criteria and we can't give you the reason"
I have asked which criteria, considering the fact that I had all the right documents, I have never had a credit in my life so I don't have any debts .
I was refused and I have been mentioned that I will receive a letter with their decision which has been sent on the 21st of June.
I have asked to speak to a manager and the lady from the branch decided that she would go to speak to the manager on my behalf so I haven't been given even this chance.
Today,is the 30th of June and I still did not receive the letter...
I went to different bank a few days ago ,made an appointment, took the documents and I have managed immediatly to open the account without any problems..
So, unfortunatelly Ulster Bank's delay affected me badly because I did not have an account in time, to receive my salary and that complicated things and they made me loose time for nothing..
I am sorry , but this is a total lack of professionalism and also of respect . read more
