Half way between thornton dale and pickering, cedar barn is in a beautiful setting and there's nothing to distract you from the gorgeous fields that surround it. They sell free range eggs, marmalades, chutneys, meats and a range of sausages and the bacon is lovely, far superior to something bought in the supermarkets. There is also a range of baked items including biscuits and tea loaves. The last sweet thing bought here was the treat of a sticky toffee pudding which I can highly recommend. As well as their own items there are products from other local farmers markers including wooden utensils and shampoos etc.

After discovering Blagdons, it is now the only place I go for my meat and every friday they do a fantastic offer of two steaks for £5 (including fillet!) These steaks are seriously good and you can really tell the difference between these and the ones you'll get at supermarket. If not to go there for the steak, its worth checking out for the great range of sauces, spreads and cheeses they do. If you like good quality food then give this place a go!

Having flown home from holiday on 23 December to an empty fridge I was wondering how I would deliver Christmas lunch for 10. I was able to buy pretty much everything I needed from Moorhouse in a 45 minute shop. I even managed to pick up some last minute presents - pickles, jams, sauces, nougat, fine chocolates & sweets, local ales...perfect stocking fillers for those who enjoy these things. The staff were friendly, helpful and in festive spirits - a welcome change to the last minute jostling and lack of Christmas cheer elsewhere. There was next no wait to pick up my turkey, due to a very organised system for ordering/collection. The turkey and trimmings were delicious - the easiest Christmas lunch I have ever prepared and to receive such praise for it, for so little effort, was great. I buy my meat, fruit and veg here all year round. It is the best farm shop in the area and remarkably economical as you can buy the quantities you need. I think this was one of the best family dining experiences we had in England. The cafe itself has adequate seating (and high ceilings which makes it look even more spacious), but it was a lovely day so a lot of people sat on the patio outside (or maybe it was because our kids were so rowdy!). It would be remiss not to mention the play areas. There is a small well-cushioned area inside with plenty of books, dolls and indoor toys. But what impressed me was the huge outdoor play area with its sandpit, stationery tractor that the children could climb all over, and the "tractor course" complete with two sizes of toy tractors the kids could ride around in. They were playing outside for at least two hours! The only downside of all this was the children did not want to leave, and my little one cried all the way back home! But all in all a wonderful way to spend your day!
