There are parking lots on either end of the trails leading up to the top and plenty of parking. Beech Hill was very close to where we were staying (at the border of Rockport and Rockland) and this fairly easy hike was about 5 minutes away. We climbed up one foggy day and returned another day from the opposite end to catch the view, obscured on the first day. Of course the prize of this hike is the really fantastic stacked-stone Tea House at the summit. Along the way you'll find blueberries that at one time were harvested and processed at the house (there's still an active processing building at one of the parking areas so it continues to this day). I took many photos of the Beech Nut Hut (as it's colloquially called) and added them to the Yelp listing dedicated to it). The trail itself is pleasant and fairly easy - I longer trail is slightly more aggressive than the short one that provides easy access to the summit. In all a good hike with plenty of native species to view as you ascend and descend, especially for those that have issues with more aggressive hikes.

The bones of a…read morehotel The Sunken Garden is a lovely and quiet area that offers a wonderful place to spend some time after walking around the town of Wiscasset. One of the first things a visitor notices, after the plants, are the number of cool looking rocks that surround and make up the foundation of the garden. The rocks actually have an interesting history. Across the street was once the Wiscasset Hilton Hotel that burned to the ground back in 1903. Frances Sortwell, whose family owned the hotel, got tired of looking at the rock foundation of the building and finally decided to do something beautiful with them. So she got together with some artistic and talented friends and decided to make a sunken garden from the remains of the old hotel. Today the stones and all the plants of the Sunken Garden remain as a quiet and reflective spot to relax, rest or just think about the past. A gentle place of beauty that is worth spending some time.

A very nice hike for older folks, kids, or people that want to be outside but can't negotiate a more difficult terrain. The hike features wide and slightly hilly trails with nice views. The main trails goes through some open fields, woody areas with lots of mature pine trees and then down to the water. The entrance can be a bit difficult to locate but if you go right behind the Carousel Music Theatre you will find it. It can get a bit mucky at times and during the warmer weather the bugs and ticks can be pretty brutal but the trails are nice in the winter for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. A pleasant little area that is great for anyone that wants an interesting short hike that is accessible to a wide variety of different people

Good thing it was marked so well as I would surely have been lost . It was a great hike around the loop but only for the sure footed, lots of exposed roots , rocks and tons of pine needles. You really needed to be paying attention to the trail markings and your footing . That being said it was a lovely hike and I would go again.
