We stayed at the Ascot House Hotel in mid-February, and it proved a good location from which to…read moreexplore the delights of Harrogate, just under a mile to walk into the periphery of the town centre. Ascot House is an impressive looking hotel, set on a corner plot adjacent to a green area, adorned with early flowering spring bulbs and trees coming into bud because of the mild winter. The car park for the hotel was a little small for the number of rooms it had, but the access road to the side handled the overspill. The car spaces are also a little svelte, something to be aware if your car is on the large side. Inside the hotel has high ceilings and an impressive air of spaciousness throughout. The staircase to the rooms is punctuated by an impressive stained glass window, that the light streams through in the early morning. Rooms wise, there are lots and it can be a fraction disorientating at first to find you actual room. The room itself was well proportioned, warm and spacious, with a large bathroom, complete with a bath, more unusual these days. A decent sized TV, that kept us entertained with random winter sports, like snowboard half pipe, in the dead time between going out for the day, and eating out in the evening. The mattress was a little soft, but that's a minor quibble. Breakfast was efficiently run, a good variety of cereals, fruit, juices and a good range of hot food, which always speedily arrived, the scrambled egg and 'Full Yorkshire' being particularly fine. The dining room doubles as a restaurant for residents and non-residents in the evening too. A few points stopped it getting that all important fifth star, the Hotel was well maintained and was undergoing somewhat of makeover whilst we were there. They had a team decorators painting the foyer while we were there, setting up just after breakfast and still working when we returned mid-afternoon. The decorators were always impeccably polite but clambering over dust sheets and dodging wet paint to enter the hotel, was a novelty initially but became a little bit of a trial.

Breakfast was very good, served promptly, in a dining room with some views of the front garden, that also serves dinners although I did not have dinner here. I booked this place because it was one of the few places with availability on a busy night, but I would reccommend it as a first choice especially as it was very reasonably priced and therefore excellent value for money.

We had a really good experience staying at the Bradford Central Premier Inn. The hotel was clean,…read moreservice was excellent and overall had a great stay! I'd stay here again without question and would highly recommend it! The only reason that I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because we were in a big group and there is not a lot of lobby space/space to sit and chill. This meant we weren't able to spend as much time together hanging out.

The Comfort Inn is located on Bishopgate Street in the centre of Leeds and is popular with tourists…read more(not hen and stag do's, more Christmas shopping tourists or even festival goers), business travellers and parents (of students, around graduation time). It is classed as a budget chain hotel somewhere along the lines of the Premier Travel Inn and serves it's purpose very well. The prices vary, you can pick up early bird bargains of B&B for as little as £19 a night but the average is £39 - £50. The rooms are maybe a little boxy but they are more than adequate, they are clean, with functional bathrooms, good showers and with complimentary shampoos and soaps. Towels are changed daily. Staff are very polite indeed, very friendly, moreso than some of the high end hotels I have been to in the city centre. The food is excellent, breakfast comprises of continental or full English, both are to a high standard and most enjoyable. The evening meals available in the restaurant are more than adequate - not haute cuisine but for the money they are a good place to eat if you aren't wanting to spend a bomb or if you are a business traveller with limited time (or you don't want to get lost in the city!). I would recommend the Comfort Inn as it certainly is comfortable, in a good location with parking, and close to all local amenities.

A fairly standard selection of pints, the black sheep was definitely a good choice as it's brewed just up the road and this kept me going while I nattered with the barman. The aforementioned fish and chips were well worth the wait and were super awesome - light batter, tasty homemade chips and lovely mushy peas - at £6.50 each it was a really good choice and great value. Although the restaurant looked a bit dated it is home to an award winning chef from Alsace/Harrogate and definitely has left me with a desire to go back and try the full menu next time I'm in the area. *extra point - there is a little convenience store next door which is run by the pub - open 9-12 each morning*

The internal decor of the place might be considered a little tired, but it felt warm and welcoming. I really couldn't decide what to choose from the menu, it's your standard pub fayre, but I like standard pub fayre - when it's done well. In the end I ordered Sirloin steak and I'm glad I did! It was one of the best steaks I've had in quite a while; cooked perfectly (I ordered rare) and accompanied by really great home cooked chips, mushroom and deliciously crispy onion rings. The meat is supplied from a farm only a couple of miles away, it seems most of the ingredients are locally sourced where possible. The portion size was generous to say the least. Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely be calling in again for a pint and something else off the menu.

Anyway, looks as if I have to give it another 5 star glowing review of how bloody amazing it is! It really is though, I love everything about it. The setting: nestled just above the Entwistle reservoir you are spoilt with fantastic views of the under-appreciated Bolton countryside. The Duck is a perfect spot if you are walking up with friends (human or K-9) and fancy some grub at the middle point before turning back, however it's equally as perfect if you need somewhere for date night or a meal and drink with some mates. The menu is great and a large percentage of the items on the menu come straight from local farms and you can taste the freshness. I've never had a bad meal or experience here whether it be a pub lunch or a nice evening meal - the menu caters for all. One final thing, and perhaps my most favourite part - they have a section on the menu for dogs! Pigs ears being the pick of the options (or so say's Snoop)

The pub is actually more like a restaurant with food to a very high standard. Booking a table is a must to guarantee you will get a seat as it is very busy at weekends.
