My dog before the last visit
Keeven W.

Do not take your pets to the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital on college station road in Athens. After our dog was hit by a car last Monday we took him to get emergency care at North Oconee Animal Hospital where the nurses tried their best to put his dislocated elbow back in place. After working through lunch and doing everything they could, they recommended the pet health center because they have orthopedic doctors better equipped to handle the procedure. After all is said and done, they got it put back in place and splinted and we were happy, we asked about all the risks and how to go about treatment and everything. Not 24 hours ( Wednesday noon)after the splint was put on we took him out to pee and he just dropped, the splint shattered. We were a little upset because the main matter that was discussed during the first visit was, he's 115 which is morbidly obese for him, so we were concerned about it breaking in the first place and made it known. We call north oconee to see if they could resplint it, but they said we'd have to go back to uga to get it done because they weren't the ones to put it on so uga would know more about it. We call uga and they say it's extremely hard to come out, they can't resplint it, the splint wasn't a big deal. So we were extra cautious, he didn't even really walk by himself my girlfriend and I just carried him everywhere. The only time he kind of hurt it was on the way to the check up yesterday to resplint and check to see if it was still in place, it wasn't even that bad he just turned and bumped his arm on the seat. We get to the pet health center, the arm is dislocated AGAIN after paying $1500 twice they said the only options were surgery to put it back in or let it heal and let him limp basically. These are the people that told us the initial Monday, if we don't get it put back in to place he won't have quality of life and we might wanna put him down. No one admitted fault and they still said the splint couldn't have prevented it and there's nothing they can do. Now we just have to do everything we can to adjust, we told everyone who brought up euthanasia, that that wasn't an option and still isn't. But all because they didn't wanna take an hour to resplint him, even though we offered to pay, our bodie is hopping around on 3 legs.

Scouty is stoned.

Review Uga Emergency Vet I had to bring my Chihuahua here at 5 o'clock in the morning because she was in severe respiratory distress. She does have a chronic illness but she's been doing really well on the medicine her vet gives her. She takes cough syrup and Sidenifil. I looked that up one time and turns out the cough syrup is hydrocodone and the Sidenifil is Viagra!!! She has pulmonary hypertension so that's why she takes a vasodilator. I just thought it was funny that it turned out to be Viagra. Anyway the Doctors here are great; they came out and took her from me right away and rushed her back to put her in oxygen. The doctor came out just a few minutes later and told me that she could what was going on a little scooter because she is very distressed. They had to sedate her and put her in oxygen cage. We waited a little while and then the Vet tried again and while she didn't get a full exam she got a better one this time. We elected to leave her there hospitalized for the time being because she still not really stable and she could use the support. And frankly when she can't breathe I get kind of panicky; I don't know what to do. I have to admit it is kind of expensive and I really couldn't afford for this to happen right now. But good care cost money. I'm doing the best I can. I'm grateful that for the caring doctors at the UGA emergency vet clinic were here to help me when I was so panicked. On the bright side, I did see a really pretty rainbow on my way out. Maybe that means everything's gonna be OK.

Waiting to be seen!

Dr. Rodriguez as well as the student vet (Ashton C) were SO intentional with making us (& Brady) feel important and seen. They both knew details about Brady prior to meeting with us indicating they knew his case before they even started our appointment. Their ability to articulate so clearly with us about their plan for the appointment, options, moving forward, what to expect, etc. allowed us to make the best informed decisions for our Brady. Dr Rodriguez and Ashton both used Brady's name, were very empathetic with the situation we were in and made us feel NO pressure to immediately decide on next steps. Dr. Rodriguez called us the same day with pathology reports and spent time with us on the phone discussing scenarios and helping us understand how to proceed - she said please call with ANY questions you have. We mentioned upon leaving that even though the result was not what we were hoping for, we could not have had a better experience.

Outstanding serive and attention given to our family pet - Sam. He's been going for several months with a chronic ear infection. The issues have greatly reduced with the plan of action by Dr. Chong and team. Very pleased and well worth the trip.

The first vet we took her to was nice but there was only one doctor there are we had an appointment but waited over an hour to get seen. We went ahead and got her shots there but never went back. The second place we took her was after she hurt her leg and they claimed she needed a splint and all this other stuff and we believed them. However, their front desk lady was always rude and the vet and his staff were immature and I didn't feel that they listened to our concerns....sooooo, we went to yet ANOTHER vet.... Finally, on the recommendation to Pawtropolis, I took Frankie to Shoal Creek....they explained that she never really injured her leg that bad and that the previous vet should have taken x-rays of both legs and they would have noticed that. Also, both vets (Dr. Elder and Dr. Askren) are sooo nice and they explain everything. I feel that the doctors and all the staff truly care about your concerns and your little furry family member's well being. Even though we are getting ready to move to Watkinsville, I will still take my dog and kitties there.

We had evacuated to Athens from Charleston for Hurricane Matthew and three days into our stay discovered our sweet girl was swelling really bad in her face. When our initial attempts to self medicate with children's Benadryl failed and she started throwing up, I took her in to this emergency vet. The tech and doctor working that day were extremely caring and thoughtful. They approached the examinations and subsequent care plans with reason. After two visits in one day, we eventually settled back into our hotel room and watched our baby like hawks. Connie, the tech who had helped us, called before she wrapped up her shift to check on things. We felt very confident in the care we received. The facility was clean and had everything needed to run diagnostics on our girl. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing emergency vet care, this hospital is a great option.

Dr Hopkins and Tammy (I think) let me hold my cat in my arms like a baby while they put him to sleep, then afterwards let me and my wife spend as much time with him as we needed before leaving. I could not ask for more humane, professional, compassionate care. Truly this was some of the best veterinary care I've seen in 40+ years of bringing my pets to vets.
