When you walk in, there is a giant cement staircase and plant wall that all just looks SUPER cool. I am pregnant and needed to use the elevator, so I had to walk through the building. I was able to see into several different makerspaces and watch people work with wood and 3D printing. Once upstairs for the event, I found myself in more of an office/large lobbies area with an event space sort of like a garage. It was the perfect location for this event and I was excited to get to check it out.

UC has been adding various types of makerspaces across​ the campus but they are piecemeal​ and of varying​ quality. I am a bit concerned​ about its distance from the main campus; I understand the UC is running out of room on the main campus, but I hope this is not an indication of a trend. They have done a good job of making it open to all, ​but I hope that it does not separate​ itself from the university. I can imagine a time in the near future where this area becomes like the ​medical campus for main campus students, a place where they rarely​ venture and is not really intended for them.

I can't remember since I only have to do this every 3-5 years. Maybe they changed buildings because the old one smelled like urine. But I'm also a fan because they made the continuing education I had to do painless. Prometric pretty much has a lock on the "testing" industry. I think nursing students and HVAC guys and stockbrokers like me go there for various testings and CE. Because they seem to have a monopoly on this kind of thing they could staff it with rude people and cut costs at every corner. They don't. The testing center is in the basement of an ugly late 70s/early 80s office building. But the place was well lit, the temperature was perfect. The two staff folks I had to deal with were nice. I showed up way to early in the hopes of getting started early and they accommodated me without making me feel like I've ruined their day. Years ago in the place that smelled like urine the staff was always grouchy. I hate urine-scented grouchiness.
