My appointment was on a monday 8am. I got there at 745am and there was already a line up going in the initial security area. It wasnt a one-time line up, you have to go through a few desks and counters before you are done but overall it was pretty fast. I was out the door by 8:35am. Security was understandbly tight. I did not bring my mobile phone as per the email i received it is not allowed. I brought a lip balm (well it is technically still winter -23C right now) and was told "make up" is not allowed. I just threw it instead of walking a couple of blocks to a hostel to rent a locker for that. Remote car keys are not allowed though my condo key fob was accepted. Try not to wear jewelry, you have to take all off at the security screening. All shoes and jackets will be asked to be removed too. Companions not allowed unless he/she is a translator. There is a tim hortons at the lobby, your companions can wait there, they are not allowed to wait on the hallway. Rule of thumb: follow every instruction for a smooth and fast process. If they say passport, just give the passport and nothing else. If they say take your shoes off, do it and not the coat. If they say stay in a single line, do it. Simple as that. read more

Welcome to Calgary, United States citizens whom choose to work and live in this beautiful city. That being said, I did find a United States Government listing in Yelp! with the same phone number but this is a different office and process than that so this is why I input this into Yelp!. I thought having to renew my US passport would be somewhat easy since I still have an active security clearance with the US government. Da ha Da ha Da ha ah ah ha, boy, was I in for a surprise. You cannot pay for expedited passport processing though they can put a rush on it. I need mine since I needed to renew my Canadian work visa. Before continuing, you can also get information besides address and location at http://calgary.usconsulate.gov/. Of course, much of the information about transmitting devices and such are not found anywhere on any of these pages. FYI: They do take US and Canadian Cash and CREDIT CARD only; NO DEBIT CARDS. I normally do not like to write a negative or even impartial review but the ineptitude of this office, even as an American living in Calgary, eclipsed anything I have ever seen. My passport renewal experience at the United States consulate in Calgary, AB: 0820 arrive early for an 0845 appointment 0830 in line with VISA applicants so passport renewal applicants (3) and Citizenship renunciation (17) are separated from the VISA line (Yes, I said 17 and I did count). 0837 at the security line, we are told that we cannot have keys that have any type of transmitting key fob, cell phones, or other transmitting devices are not allowed. No lockers or storage are provided. You can use the Calgary Hostel at 520 7th Ave SE which is 8 blocks (round trip) and cost $5.00 (they do take debit). 0910 return from trip to the hostel to security line 0915 go through scanner process similar to the airport screening 0925 escorted to the 10th floor 0930 go through another scanner but having to remove belt this time which holds up my pants which are too big (and I am commando today). 0935 enter room where visa, passport processing, and other US services are provided 0955 finally called to window "C" where processing finally begins. Asked why I am late for my 0845 appointment. Repeat story with a nasty attitude. $110.00 for passport renewal + $25.00 "executor fee" with the promise about 2 weeks to process (it's already been 6 weeks since I started the passport renewal process) and return to Calgary Consulate which will then turn around and mail to me (no, you cannot pick it up). 1010 finish processing with first window "C" and return to wait for further processing 1017 return to window "C" for more processing 1025 sat down yet again after window "C" processing 1045 go to window "B" for more processing 1047 sat down yet again after window "B" processing 1052 go to booth "A" for more processing where I am ask why I have an active security clearance with the US government 1055 told that have to get Express Mail envelop from convenience store downstairs 1105 $15.10 for Express Mail envelope 1113 return to hostel to get keys, phone, etc. All of this because I kept page 17 which had my soon-to-expire work visa on it with all the required stamps since I keep getting stopped to verify I am not an Albertan trying to avoid tickets and such (Texas plates). Irony in that I was able to renew my Texas license and have it sent here by my very close friend with no drama. I was wondering why there are 17 citizenship renunciations; I now know why. read more

We needed an emergency US passport while traveling in Canada, due to our own stupid error. Despite this being entirely our fault, the staff at the embassy -- from the security guards to the consular officer -- were consistently helpful, efficient and friendly. At no time were we made to feel stupid, despite not really being as prepared for the appointment as we could have been. They worked quickly and did everything they could to get us a limited passport within a couple hours. read more

Our interview was on Wednesday 24 july. One security guard was punjabi, who was standing in front of tim hortons. He was very rude. He talked with my husband in very rude manner. We are very disappointed with his behaviour. read more

Just got back. Went for passport. Appt. was 1:15. Home by 2:00. Follow instructions and directions in their website and its a breeze. Staff was friendly and helpful. Security was tight. But just follow the website info...all of it. Bring all proper forms, payments and documents. Easy peasy... read more

We were impressed with this Consulate. We set up the appointments for our kids' passport renewals and were seen within minutes of our scheduled time. The passports arrived via mail in less than one week! Wow! Great, polite and efficient officers helped us out while at the consulate, and we still cannot believe the passports arrived so quickly! This is the worst consulate I've ever been to. I have lived in the states for more than 10 years and I've never been treated this way. I went in for stamping of my renewed visa, which was already approved by the USCIS. The support staff was very arrogant with a nasty attitude and totally acted entitled. They also seemed to be inexperienced, asking unnecessary silly questions. And I had taken time off from work, but had to wait for more than a week to get my passport back. This, after the consular officer told me I could pick it up within 2 business days. No reason given whatsoever for why the passport was held so long. Again, this was just a renewal and I wasn't applying for this visa the first time. Also, the consulate building itself doesn't have lockers to store all personal stuff. We had to walk a few blocks in the heat to pay $5 for storage on a desk in a hostel! It was totally ridiculous. I've been to so many other consulates before and I have never had such a bad experience.  All in all,  I wouldn't recommend going in there at all.
