Bowenwork is gentle, subtle and sneaks up on you. After my first session, I reserved a certain amount of doubt in the potential results. But after my fourth session I fully understand it's true value. The intense muscle tension I once had is all but gone and my "forward-head" is miraculously corrected. My posture has improved tremendously and I can't believe it took so long to find a real pain solution. I went from "dumpy" to "springy" and my energy is upward instead of it seeming like the world pushing me down. You will wonder upon your first visit...how can this possibly be doing anything? Andrew comes into the room every 3-5 minutes, does two or three maneuvers and leaves you to resonate and adjust to them. You may even find that you drift off to sleep while he is out of the room. It is weird and at first it seems like he's not doing very much. But trust me, it works mysterious wonders. We often think that the solution to tension is to attack it aggressively and work it out, but really, it's fitting that the solution to tension is to treat it gently and coax it out of the body. I realize this review is getting quite long, but if there's anything else to add it would be that not only does this treatment work, but sessions with Andrew are educational and enlightening. Aside from the bodywork done in the session, Andrew takes great care to pay attention to your energy and signals. He explains where tension lies, why and what you can do throughout your daily life to help relieve it. Stretches, meditations and knowledge make Bowenwork a complete therapy for the mind, body and soul. Andrew seeks to relieve physical tension and help you understand mental roadblocks that hamper the free flow of energy in your being. I had heard about Andrew through some reviews earlier, and when I recently found myself in NYC, I knew I had to make a detour to see him. If you are a massage fan like myself, you know an hour's drive is a small price to pay for a great massage. We set up the date/time over e-mail before, but his surprise call on our appointed date was so comforting as I am a foreigner to his area. He greeted me with a big smile and proudly showed around his shop. You can tell he's spent a good amount of time on the interior design and has future projects to improve it even more. The whole building was very neat, clean and infused with soothing music. For the next 90 minutes, he took me a land of total surrender and relaxation. He started off with a nice guided visualization where his words took me to a warm beach on a paradise island. Even before he began massaging me, I had already melted into the table. Then he offered Bowen Therapy which I had not experienced before. It's basically a modality of soft tissue manipulation, which definitely gets your attention at first, but also one which makes you ask for more. He patiently worked on my neck and scalp very methodically, but never mechanically. Oftentimes, I could not tell where his hands ended and where my body began. His hands were noticeably soft, obviously from years of massage oil. Where he had to do deeper work, I was able to go through it with his humor and some deep breathing. He kept checking in with me all throughout the session to make sure I was warm enough, the music was audible, my needs were being addressed. If he identified a problem area I was not aware of, or forgot to mention, he would bring it to my attention and offer to heal it. Overall, Andrew is such an excellent communicator as a massage therapist, who genuinely is concerned about your well-being and makes you want to be a masseur. I had a lot of massages in my time, 2 to 3 times a week from all the pain I have within me ,which I should not need only occasionally a massage ,but it helps when someone is Great in the massage .. I was looking so much for a massage therapist. I was going crazy till I found u kneada massage from a friend of mine ,who told me to try this place out .Andrew did sit with me and talk with me about what was going on with my pain. That's a first a massage therapist did that. Andrew told me the massage with oil will relax me and feel great to my body. We talked some more and Andrew told me about bowenwork. He said that will help me to get out of pain faster wow!.I asked Andrew will it hurt? He replied NO WAY its a light touch and he was nice to show me on my arm first .I was very HAPPY with Andrew for him to help my pain to feel lighter and he was very gentle to my body .To this day I see a Big difference in my body and how I stand and walk . I get massages several times a year, but never felt so excited about my treatment that I would take the time to write about it. First Andrew takes you into a comfortable room to talk to you about what is bothering you, and explain a little about Bowenwork. He then brings you into the quiet, comfortable massage room. The heated table felt so nice. I was there for a regular massage with extra scalp massage. It was wonderful. I had some tight spots in my back. Andrew gently pressed on my thigh, and the knot in my back magically released! (sample of Bowenwork). I've had massages at beauty salons where you can hear blow dryers and talking in the background. They are doing construction next door, and at one point you could hear them working. Andrew excused himself, asked them to please wait to do their work, and came back. It was once again quiet. How thoughtful. One more thing that truly impressed me was the length of the massage. I normally get a "60 min massage" where they massage you for about 50 min....the rest of the time is when you get changed, and I guess time at the end for them to change the sheets. This was a 75 min massage where he truly massaged me for the full 75 min. This review is getting long, but I think you get the hint. How happy I was to find a Bowenwork practitioner very close to my friend's apartment in Long Island! This 53-year-old woman felt more like 32 years old after my session. I have studied and practiced Bowen therapy myself, and I liked to get a reboot every 6 months or so. It loosens up my joints and makes the stiffness fall away to the point that I felt taller and far more lithe after Andrew's session. The nice thing about Bowen is that if you feel better just after your session, the "better" gets better still as the days go by. I feel old stuck structural issues just spring away, like rubber bands that had gotten stuck together but then get pulled apart and regain their elasticity. At my age, elasticity is golden! For the uninitiated, Bowen is a technique that requires very specific moves done in a very specific way at very specific places on the body. The client remains clothed. The practitioner does a couple moves, leaves the room to allow the body to process it, then comes back a few minutes later to do a few more moves. It's non-invasive, requires little or no talking, and no pain. Andrew really has this technique down pat, and I encourage you to give it a whirl if you have pain or stiffness in your body. When I first went to Andrew I had no idea what Bowen massage was, all I knew was I was in a great deal of pain from fibromyalgia, arthritis and was under a ton of stress. I would joke that some days it was a wonder I remained upright and walking. Well, a year later I feel so much better. Over the years I have had many massages and Andrew is the best masseuse I have seen. He is friendly and professional and his office is relaxing and soothing as is his manner. Sometimes deep tissue massage will hurt at the trigger points and not everyone is comfortable. Personally I find that the next day I feel much better. Not everyone wants that as part of their massage and just want a relaxing experience. I always let him know ahead of time what type of massage I prefer for that day. The atmosphere is welcoming and very comfortable. I would not have envisioned the relaxing feel of the sea blue room from looking at this building from the outside. I had a massage last week and I left smiling, and continued to smile for hours, because I felt good, lighter and relaxed.
