Well, it's been 12 years since the JCC took out a no trespass order against me. My only 'crime'…read morewas to witness, over the course of 6 months, more than half a dozen instances where staff of the JCC daycare mistreated, both physically and verbally, young children under their care. My mistake was in trusting the then director, Randy Freeman, to do the right thing. What I should have done was to call Childline and let them handle it. Randy found none of emails of complaint valid, even relating to instances of mistreatment where I had other witnesses. The JCC was going through renovations as the time and they didn't want anything to jeopardize them, so they made up some nonsense about me. I'm not perfect; however, I stand behind my words and actions always. I recently thought about requesting the JCC remove the trespass order so I can go back. I need the pool like I need oxygen. However, after perusing pictures of the staff and the board, I decided I didn't wish to ever see these people again. 'Everyone is welcome'. Yea, except the righteous Jewish disabled war veteran. What a bunch of hypocrites.

This is a fabulous camp! My daughter (now 12) went for the first time last year, on her own without…read moreknowing anyone beforehand, and loved it so much she wanted to come for every session this summer. This is a great, old school outdoor camp. Kids get to choose their activities each day--they can go swimming, catch frogs, play in mud, splash in the Gunpowder River, go canoeing or hiking, etc. It is loosely structured enough that can explore, follow their own interests, and use their imaginations. There are mixed age groups and it's amazing to see how kind and supportive the older kids are to the younger kids. The counselors (mostly former campers I think) are hilarious, energetic, creative, kind. Don, a former teacher who has run the camp for over 40 years, is very thoughtful and reflective and the kids love him. This camp gives kids the space to discover their own confidence, creativity, initiative, and it's really really FUN!!!

Starting with Nature Camps' "Little Feet" program, they have grown through the Day Camp and, for the first time, this past summer, "Teen Adventure". The counselors' skills in facilitating each child's personal development and ability to connect with people and the environment around them are astoundingly spectacular. I've lost count of the time I've found myself using the word "magical" to describe how Nature Camps is able to reveal, respect and develop children's best selves. Pick up and drop off at Nature Camps' rustic, wooded location in Monkton offers parents an opportunity to connect with their children and participate in fun activities like "Big Circle". (The (optional) van service from Greenspring Station and/or ad hoc carpools offers other options for families who'd prefer to reduce their own driving time.) In these ways, Nature Camps' values and opportunities outweigh the factors of cost and convenience. Our family's favorite part of each two-week session is the Family Overnight. Overnight activities include a potluck supper followed by entertainment from campers and staff as well as family and friends followed by activities like as night hikes, crafts, and singing by a campfire. The following morning, parents and younger campers are served breakfast prepared by older campers (and staff).

I have learned countless lessons about community, service, growth, leadership, and God from Pastor Youse, Winnie, Zach, Mike, my fellow staff members, and our campers. Girls adventure camp is suppose to be an inclusive camp were girls come to experience a week full…read moreof fun game and activities under the supervision of adults. We have sent our daughter for the last 2 years thinking she had a great time and things went well. That is until we were blind sided with an email from the organizer stating they are banning our daughter due to issues that came up. Issues we were NEVER made aware of. When I received an emailed response to me asking for a discussion , it was stated there were issues for both years that they failed to communicate because "time got away from them". Again we were never contacted in anyway about any issues they had with our daughter ever. Our daughter was never sent home early for any reason. We were lead to believe it was a fantastic week both years. This camp doesn't have a system in place for when issues arise. They don't communicate with the parents. They discriminate against children that struggle with some social and behavioral challenges yet lead you to believe they have it under control and everything went great. I wouldn't trust my daughter in the hands of irresponsible leaders like this one.
