Well, it's been 12 years since the JCC took out a no trespass order against me. My only 'crime' was to witness, over the course of 6 months, more than half a dozen instances where staff of the JCC daycare mistreated, both physically and verbally, young children under their care. My mistake was in trusting the then director, Randy Freeman, to do the right thing. What I should have done was to call Childline and let them handle it. Randy found none of emails of complaint valid, even relating to instances of mistreatment where I had other witnesses. The JCC was going through renovations as the time and they didn't want anything to jeopardize them, so they made up some nonsense about me. I'm not perfect; however, I stand behind my words and actions always. I recently thought about requesting the JCC remove the trespass order so I can go back. I need the pool like I need oxygen. However, after perusing pictures of the staff and the board, I decided I didn't wish to ever see these people again. 'Everyone is welcome'. Yea, except the righteous Jewish disabled war veteran. 2 stars The York JCC facilities are consistently clean and the programs (especially for kids and seniors) are genuinely excellent; that's why I stayed a member for years. Unfortunately, the membership/billing department completely soured my experience. I've never once missed or been late on a payment, yet when a single payment failed because I'd received a new credit card (a completely normal life event), they slapped me with a $15 returned-payment fee and flatly refused to waive it as a one-time courtesy. For $15 they chose to lose a long-term, reliable member who barely even used the facility. It's disappointing to see a community organization prioritize rigid policy over basic goodwill. I won't be renewing and will be taking my membership elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately the JCC has recently launched a campaign against its Silver Sneakers members in an effort to force them to pay an additional $19/mo. They could have reached for a carrot -- offered sweeteners to encourage a higher level of membership -- but instead they decided to make it harder for the most vulnerable senior members to use the JCC facilities. Silver Sneakers member badges now "lock out" those members except for 11am-4pm M-Friday. The chair exercise classes -- classic Silver Sneakers with bands and weights, chair yoga -- were at 11am, now start at 11:15. So, elderly folks with Silver Sneakers now wait outside, in all weather, NOT permitted even in the vestibule, and then those very people with joint issues and mobility issues must try to hurry to class and secure a spot before classes fill up. JCC chooses this. They do so even though every other gym in York gives full access to Silver Sneakers enrollees. JCC might reprogram the doors to open at 10 am, or even 10:45am, but instead they hope to PRESSURE Silver Sneakers members until they give up and fork over the additional $19/month. It's the most cynical, unfriendly, short-sighted strategy that JCC could employ. Shame on them. Meanwhile we don't buy tickets for fundraising events, we don't enroll our grandkids in their summer camp, we go elsewhere to pay for swim classes, and we tell our friends that there are plenty of better Silver Sneakers fitness classes that come with full, FREE gym access and none of JCC's ageism. read more

How dare you imply that inappropriate interactions are her objectiv. i chose Justina specifically to reach my son how to swim. she is not only a lovely, intelligent and most importantly she is passionate about teaching very patient with children and not to mention a warrior of a woman. judging her or believing she had any perverse ideals is not only unfair but downright bigotry. You should be ashamed of snot only yourself, but you should ask forgiveness for such a mindset. You even consider how she must feel trying to embrace her own life knowing such hateful people exist in the world. justina Was a wonderful instructor and if she still worked there I'd choose her again. I have found the JCC to be the friendliest, cleanest and most fun place for a gym fitness class, workout, swimming, Sauna, Steam room or Jacuzzi. I have been taking excellent Zumba classes with Renae for a number of years. Excellent! read more

I joined this gym and after 2 months requested to cancel my membership. Which they did but we're not happy about doing it. Gym is small. Facility completely outdated. Pool is heated. Not good for those training for triathlon. Husband got a sinus infection after swimming in it. read more

This place is large. It's just been remodeled for Jan 2022 newly renovated pool area and spa/steam room. The personnel are friendly and they have an eat in area $$ but Jewish food is always good, albeit lots of high calorie foods. The only thing they don't have is a tan room. read more

You know, I went to college in York and drove by this place a few times over my 20 years. I didn't really know what it was until a friend of mine referred me to it. This is the best fitness facility in all of York County. 1) Pool - it's huge. Usually lanes are open to do laps, and half the pool is usually open for free swim. Nice schedule posted to easily find times to go. There's also a hot tub right next to it as well as a steam room and a dry heat room. 2) Locker rooms are spacious, even a machine to dry my swim suit so it doesn't go back into my gym back soaked! 3) Weights - Just about everything you could ask for in a weight room. The weight room is not terribly huge, but I don't really have issues getting on any equipment. 4) Cardio equipment - tons of cardio equipment and a second floor with more 5) Fitness classes - lots of fitness classes for FREE as part of your membership. 6) Trainers - lots of trainers available to assist you. Three free sessions. 7) Price - my family is priced at $78 per month. Can't beat it! Lots of extras also not mentioned. read more

As a foster parent, one thing that I do is any child who stays with me longer than a month goes to swim lessons. It's my way of possibly making a life changing difference in their lives. I signed a seven year old up for swim camp. She told me she'd never had any swim lessons so I put her in the beginning class. There were around 7 kids in the class. All were non swimmers and most were afraid to get in the water. Meanwhile, my foster daughter jumped in and was doing free style stroke on her own. (Turns out a previous foster home taught her to swim in their backyard pool). I asked the supervisor if she could move up. The teacher said she was ready for the next level, but the supervisor refused. "We don't move them up after the first day." She said. I asked why on earth they wouldn't move them up AND didn't evaluate on the first day. She relented and let my foster daughter move up. Turns out there was only one kid in the next level. Why why why wouldn't you be looking to fill the class? Why would you have a class full of fearful non swimmers with only one instructor and then have a one on one class? It makes no sense. The camp was two weeks long. At the end of the first week my daughter got a contagious skin condition and could not get in the water. I brought in a dr's note and asked for a refund. They said they would refund me half. We took half of the camp, the camp cost $40. How much do you think they refunded? Well, if you thought $20 you are wrong! They refunded $8.58. Who knew that half of 40 is 8.58. They must do different math at the JCC. We switched to private lessons and we had Ms. Madie. She was wonderful! I can't sing her praises enough. For swim lessons during the year we had Ms Kate who does not let the kids swim in the water for the first two lessons. Yes, you pay for swim lessons and she talks to the kids about water safety for the ENTIRE FIRST TWO LESSONS. This was a 45 minute class! My daughter and most of the class failed level three and weren't allowed to move up. I might be crazy, but I think you learn to swim by getting in the water not sitting on the side of the pool. We switched back to the YMCA which is so much better. Now we do Goldfish swim school. The students are evaluated after every lesson and are consistently moving up in order to stay in a class that is challenging to them. I did let the JCC know all about our issues (and many others that I won't bore you with) and they said, "That sounds frustrating." While I appreciate the validation, it doesn't solve anything. So at the end of the day, stay away from the JCC go to YMCA or Goldfish. read more

The JCC is probably the best value for your dollar in the York area as far as gyms go. While not huge (though as of this review they are planning an expansion); they have enough equipment to keep me from getting bored, a swimming pool, hot tub, steam room, personal trainers, masseuses, classes, and child care. The key though is that the staff is really, really, no-fooling, really nice. Going to a gym for people who haven't been can be intimidating, but the staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to answer any question you might have. It does get fairly busy at peak times, but I haven't found myself with nowhere to go while I was there yet. And, no, you don't have to be Jewish to join - it is open for everyone. read more

Solid overall equipment and things but the hours are horrible used to enjoy my membership but now when i work 8-5 on a saturday or 9-6 on a friday i cant even use the place the hours ruin the whole experience because you cant even have one to begin with wouldnt recommend it at all for someone that works or is busy throughout the day read more

As both a member for ten years and a employee for two years, I can say this is a great center. Everyone is truly welcome, not just those of the Jewish faith. The employees are great and truly become friends, from the fitness center to the day care, to the custodians everybody is nice. The fitness center has been dramatically expanded and now features everything you need. read more

I seldom write a review about anything, but it's time to expose this gym for it's treatment of it's members. If you want to sign up to use the workout area... You may like the gym. My son and I signed up to play basketball at this gym to spend time to on the weekends. Unfortunately, the management of the JCC find it more important to rent out the gymnasium at anytime regardless of their members. I don't understand how they can rent out the gymnasium when it's already rented out to myself and other members with our membership. Example: The gym is closed the entire weekend (Feb 24 - 25) and I am not able to utilize my membership with my son. Do I get a refund? Nope... Of course, they have never given me a refund. This is just one example... This happens all the time. The gymnasium is poorly managed even when it's open. There is never a JCC employee who monitors the gymnasium. There have been several scuffles and minor fights in the gymnasium at times. A direct quote from JCC management - "We have the janitors walk through occasionally". Basketball can be a very competitive sport at times and their no structure at the JCC. The basketball members are poorly treated with no respect to their membership. There are so many basketball members complaining, but these complaints have not made it to management. This is very typical of this kind of stuff. I have had enough and need to voice my opinion. This is really the surface of the issue of the mistreatment of the basketball members, but I don't want to write a long message as people won't read it. Signing off...
