We didn't have a pleasant experience at all with Tyner, the construction process was exhausting and the results not great.
Marc Tyner was unable to build the house we wanted and the finishes were terrible. It is probably our fault because we were expecting more from this company that seemed to be a good one, but is certainly not, there is nothing special about Tyner construction, they are just contractors and all they care is about money.
They will probably take several millions from your bank account, and no matter what he tells you in the first interview, he will never keep his word. Marc Tyner said he would respect our budget and we ended up paying almost twice our budget. He gave us a date of completion that he changed 3 times. He added 6 months to one of the multiple dates of completion he gave us. He made you sign a contract that protects his company basically about everything they do, so as a client you will always be stuck. We have talked with some of our neighbors who have built with Tyner, and even the ones who like the house he built for them, have similar complaints.
We would have been happy to pay even more money if he would have built the home we really wanted, but he did not. They just want to build the same kind of homes that they are used to build for everybody, zero creativity. Marc Tyner tried several times to convince us to build something that it was easier for him to build, and of course something where he could make more money, that is how we ended up paying almost twice our budget.
We are still dealing with Tyner, hoping that one day they finally finish the multiple things they did wrong in our home. The "punch list" is huge. We had to call our attorney asking for advice because Tyner built a drainage system that is unacceptable and he did not want to take responsibility. We still have water in front of our front door!
We asked him firmly to please protect the big oak tree that was in our property before they start building, again, he promised something that he did not keep. They totally ignored our request and they simply killed the roots of our big and beautiful oak tree with concrete and other materials that they put on top. Tyner said, having no knowledge on the subject, that anyway the tree would die. We hired two arborists who confirmed that he was wrong and that the builders killed it.
The worse is that Marc Tyner lose his patience easily. We were probably not the easier clients because we wanted not only good quality but good finishes, specially for the high amount of money we were paying him, but Marc Tyner and his team became rude and unprofessional many times during the process, specially after they received our money. The "interior designer" who did not bring any new ideas and she could not create any of the ambiances we wanted in the house, suddenly disappeared without even saying goodbye after having worked with us for several months. Tyner even sent us an email letting us know how tired they were about us. We were demanding clients but never rude of course, they were rude and totally unprofessional.
We moved 6 months ago and they still cannot finish to repair the multiple items from the "punch list".
Our carpenter had to repair what they did wrong and finished what they could not finish. We sent back most of the wood cabinets of the kitchen that they installed, because they had big holes!
Bottom line, if you want to build the house of your dreams, if you love nature and you do not want to kill all the trees you have around, if you want high quality finishes and new ideas to build a house not like everyone else, then please go find another builder. We are pretty sure you can find better builders in the area.
If you choose to ignore our advice and you decide anyway to build with Tyner, at least before you sign the contract, please show it to your attorney.
Good luck! read more
