Sure, it is a conservation park, meaning that you have to stick to the paths, but the trek around the cape is actually quite exhilarating, especially some of the views you have along the coast. There is even a lighthouse, as well as Australia's most easterly mainland point, which is also pretty cool. In fact, it seems that quite a few people take this walk in the morning, at least from what I could see.

Whether you're a local or a tourist, stopping by Cape Byron Lighthouse is a must do. Park your car…read morein one of the parking lots at the top of the hill for a small price (pay at machines) and walk on over towards the lighthouse. As you walk up, you will be treated to stunning views of the coast and once you reach the lighthouse, a great photo op! Behind the lighthouse are multiple trails that wind down the hill towards small secluded empty beaches. If you're lucky enough and it's a beautiful clear day, you'll be able to spot whales and dolphins! We were lucky to catch a glimpse of a pod of dolphins nearby. As I walked through the trails, I was also able to spot a wallaby hiding in the brush and get some good pictures while being at a respectable distance and still on the trail. Fantastic park. This place is great for all ages! We loved…read morethe chairs made from tree stumps & flying foxes. The toilets were clean, plenty of parking, tennis courts right next to the bathrooms, outdoor gym, and a pretty lake (murky water) to look at definitely wouldn't let the kids swim in it. Saw few people walking their dogs (decent footpaths), plenty of grass areas to have picnic & parents sitting on benches while kids play (shaded). Overall amazing venue for kids & families! We'll be back for sure.

Short walk to surf beach or into town for full services. Restrooms with flush toilets are dark but reasonably clean. Much bird life including bush-turkeys and lorikeets. Parking can be a challenge especially on weekends.

The beach, not surprisingly, is pretty close, as are a number of restaurants, and even a pub. Oh, and it also has public restrooms, a must for any park.

Well, not quite because there is a sort of person that seems to like this particular beach, and they are probably the young, or the young at heart. As for me, well, I wouldn't necessarily consider it to me one of those beaches that really grabs my attention. I was okay, but then again I'm not really a beachy sort of person.

Byron Bay . . . how long have you got?…read more Depending on who you ask, Byron is either Heaven, or Heaven. Everyone loves it sick, bro, in fact there's very little not to like. The backpackers? The prices? Yes, and sure, but compared to avalanche of good things about this place, these pale into insignificance. Now, I'm a beach-goer of some 30-odd years experience, and this might very well be the most epic and welcoming beach in Australia. Split by a rock wall there's one huge flat swimmers paradise to the right, and to the left a shipwreck and a surfing Valhalla. Don't even get me started on Wategos. Sit on the grassy hill and watch the giant martian moon come up after sunset and hang over the beach like a glowing spaceship. Sip wine. Strum a guitar. Smoke bongs. Whatever your pleasure, it's pretty much game on at Byron. Love. Love love love. In the words of an American colleague in her truly awful Australian accent: "Bist ivva!"

How do you review an eleven-year relationship? We were so young, Splendour and me, when it all…read morebegan. Some might say it was a scandalous start, me at seventeen years of age attending Splendour's first birthday (a legitimate birthday, the first ever Splendour in 2001). We were young, we were crazy, we were in love (with music). It was a one-day event back then, mostly attended by the hippies of Byron and the kids like me heading in because it was a gig we were legally allowed to attend (with our beautiful under-18 wristbands). I followed my favourite band there--Something for Kate had just released Echolalia and I was smitten. (I'm still smitten, though not sure if I'm proud or embarrassed to admit it). That may have been the highlight for me, but it was on par with throwing my hands in the air like I CARED A LOT ABOUT THE WORLD! for Michael Franti, and doing my best trancing to Squarepusher in the doof doof tent because my festival buddy had gotten us both hooked on My Red Hot Car. Also walking past Dylan Lewis and having him throw us the friendly horns after yelling "DYLAN!" at him was pretty great--we were already missing Recovery pretty bad by then. Were I to rate just the 2001 event, it would have scored five stars. Originally in this review I kept going with a recap of each year I attended the festival, but it got too long for the 5001 character count so I decided to nip it in the bud. I'll probably turn it into a blog post instead. You may note I used past tense when I wrote "attended", because I'm sure to not attend Splendour for a very, very long time now (if ever). This is partly because I've moved from Brisbane to Hobart, and partly because Splendour has become a douche-fest full of punters off their faces who don't give two hoots about the music, instead proud to go down in history having been off their face at a festival for an entire weekend. I'm a bitter, jaded old lady now and the music can't overcome the jerks, so it's sideshows and sideshows alone in my future. Were this review for historic events, it would be four or five stars. But I'll stick to being a poopy pants. Our relationship was wonderful while it lasted but in the end, it was a bad break-up... I'll blame it on Other People, but let's face it, Splendour. We grew apart. In its current state... Splendour? Eek! Methinks not.
