I actually debated writing this review for a whole year! So i am confident enough to know how I was treated was in fact wrong and I am not crazy for feeling this way... First photo : Ty's work Last photo : Koi Piece by different artist ( adding to not really covering ) i had dmd Ty for a fine line tattoo that would end at my collar bone as well as a fine line tattoo on my hand (covered now). By this time I have already had my legs and stomach done and have red incorporated in all of my tattoos! From the beginning I had expressed to Ty that i want my tattoos all in red and I showed him a photo of what I wanted to get done. He was kind and confident at first, set up my appointment told me that what i wanted was no problem and that he was the best artist for fine line and what i wanted. The estimate total was 700 which I understand is an estimate though that is still a hefty total. The day comes to where I have to drive to Lincoln. I double checked with him, and arrived. As soon as i arrive and sit down into the studio. He expresses his concerns of the color red, and how it would not look good on my skin tone. Now addressing your concern is not the problem, it's the fact that it was not said before I drove a whole hour to come to this appointment. He would say things like "at the end of the day it's your tattoo" to make it seem like i had a choice. But the way he was speaking to me was almost manipulative.. i asked what color reds do you have, he stated he only has one. He continued to try and convince me to get black but as I was hesitant because that's not what I booked for he said things like "I am the artist here, not you. So i know what I'm doing." I don't know know if he even realized how his tone and word usage was coming off. But at the end I fell to the pressure and agreed on black. When we moved on to my hand I was in pain, as to be expected for hand tattoos i was wincing and visibly in pain but not making noise. However instead of making me feel comfortable he looked at me and told me to "stop 'doing' that you're going to make them think it's painful" as two young girls were walking in to the studio. He told me... to stop doing that... as if I'm not actually in pain that was just crazy to me. Anyways by the end of it to top it all off he charged my 750 dollars for unfinished work. He said this is it for this session next session we will finish the rest, we had not even touched my collarbone so I assumed the 750 was for next session as well. But he said no this is for my time and products next session should be another 200-300. For a tattoo that is so minimal, this is just unbelievable and I have all the dms still! Anyways what made me decide to write this review was my coverup that I had gotten done this month by a very nice lady in Florida! She charged me 500 for this entire sleeve she made me feel so comfortable and actually worked WITH me to get the results I wanted. We used 'Lipstick Red' and she stated that someone who speaks so poorly of colors like Ty did, most likely just didn't know what they were doing or hasn't worked with color before. My skin tone should not have affected it. And considering he only had one shade of red I think that was the case, though he has worked minimally with red before. I felt ran for my money and disappointed in my tattoo. But most importantly I felt uncomfortable and disrespected and like I didn't have a voice. He never did follow up with me for our second session. And i have ran into multiple people who had terrible experiences with him too. I think it's important to know, there are others out there who has experienced this who just don't take the time to write the review. We see all the nice reviews and think nothing of it. I mean it took me a whole year just to write this one. This is our bodies, and ultimately our choice! And to Ty, yes you are the artist and your work is beautiful, but your customer service should be just as important. Please be more understanding and kind. read more

This "tattoo artist" (and I use that term VERY loosely) is hands-down the worst experience I've ever had with a human holding a tattoo machine. Not only are the prices astronomically ridiculous (I was quoted $550 for a black-and-gray outline smaller than my palm), but every word out of their mouth feels like it belongs in a courtroom under oath--and none of it would hold up. The design I asked for was simple--what I got looks like it was scribbled by a sleep-deprived toddler during an earthquake. When I tried to discuss fixing it, they ghosted me for weeks. Save yourself the money, the scars (physical and emotional), and the secondhand embarrassment. There are overpriced scams out there, and then there's this clown--a whole new level of delusion wrapped in a tragic tattoo studio. Quit your "Job" Tyler. read more

It's taken me a while to want to make this review because I don't like to make poor reviews but even after a couple of years it still lingers. Probably because i have to look at a subpar tattoo job. My mom, sisters and I drove from out of town and made a weekend in Lincoln around us getting tattoos. I had been in communication with Tyler a couple months prior. I had told him that there would be 6 of us getting matching tattoos. We talked a couple weeks before confirming that we were coming and that he would still have time to do all of us. He said it would be fine and that each of us would take about 20 mins or so. When we walked in to his shop his face was shocked and asked if we were all getting tattoos. I was disappointed and a little embarrassed. I had encouraged my family to come to him but then feel like he wasn't prepared for us. He said he would have time. I even said to him, "if you don't have time we are fine with not getting it since these are permanent decisions." He said it would be no problem. As we were getting tattooed more people showed up and he even had to ask someone to come back another day. Then later that night we started noticing different spots missing on different pieces. We messaged to see if we could come back and get them fixed but he said he was busy with a personal event. Understand but I feel like if he hadn't rushed through us it wouldn't have been any trouble. He claimed it was because he is human and makes mistakes. I get it. then I was so sad to see that my tattoo was DEFINITELY not a fine line piece as it seemed he had to rush through it. Absolutely heartbreaking. I just wish he would have admitted that he did not have time for all 6 of us. read more

Worst tattoo experience ever. He was arrogant, unprofessional, and rushed. He didn't want to move a stencil, argued with me about the design, and has quite an ego. Made an appointment with Ty through Instagram which is his preferred method of communication. Was planning for matching tattoos with two of my sisters. Discussed what design I wanted, how big, placement all of that. Made the appointment. Talked back and forth several times up until the appointment about design. Because we were coming in from out of town we decided to make a whole day of it and hung out in Haymarket. Messaged him the day of to say how excited we were to be tattooed today and let him know we were near the shop all morning if he wanted to get started earlier. We ended up coming in at our original appointment time and actually had to wait a few minutes past because he wasn't there and his doors were locked. Once we got back into the room he started talking in circles about how he does things different then most tattoo shops and wouldn't be tattooing any of us today. Needless to say we were disappointed from the get go but we listened to him talk about his process. He proceeded to tell us that what we would need to do is go home and google pencil drawings of each flower we wanted and send that to him so he could then resize and put them all together. I asked where his own artistic input came in and he said he would be adding shading. It makes me wonder if he has any artistic abilities at all or if he just copies clip art and line drawings from other artists. He told us it would take several sittings as he only tattoos for one hour per sitting. He contradicted himself many times through out the "consultation". We left knowing there was no way we were coming back and reading other reviews it seems we really dodged a bullet anyway. Also he claims to be the only fine line artist in the Midwest which is 100% false. Would not recommend the shop to anyone. Complete waste of everyone's time. read more

Went here wanting some roman numerals on my forearm, pretty simple, and Derreck was the one who worked on me. DO NOT GO TO THEM!! During my tattoo, he said "oh shit" then called tyler over to look at it. He had popped my blood vessels in an area from overworking it, and asked tyler if this was normal. After, I slowly began noticing lines fading and other lines bleeding out and getting super thick. I messaged derreck with pics of it, and he said after a month he could touch it up. After a month, I noticed the lines that bled were now scarred indents in my skin, and had spread entirely too much to be fixed. I messaged him being nice at first, and scheduled a time to come in. Two hours before my appointment he cancelled and said he was sick, but later that day posted on instagram with all the work he had done that day, so obviously wasn't sick and was just avoiding me lmao. Eventually I talked to 5 different artists, never telling them where I went, and they all asked if I went to ty smith tattoos, saying they had had manyyyy people coming in to get their work covered and that he overworked my tattoo which was why I have permanent scarring. I knew I either needed to get this shit covered or lasered off, so I asked for a refund, which is when Derreck asked for more pics of it and said "let me get back to you", which he never did. So I messaged again, and he blamed it on my aftercare. Aftercare doesn't scar your skin, and I have many other tattoos. I know how to take care of them, and have never had this issue. I told him he fucked up, and he knew he did since during my tattoo he literally said "oh shit". So unprofessional. Own up to your mistakes dude. He then offered to do a coverup, to which I told him no. Why would I want someone who doesn't know what they're doing and scarred my skin and fucked up my tattoo working on me again??? Save your money and don't bother going here unless you wanna pay to get the tattoo covered or removed two months later. read more
