Love Dutch fresh Shrimps? Best place to get them and fresher than fresh is this place.
There are several boats in the harbour of Oudeschild that will take tourist out in the big wide ocean. I have been on many.
This time i was on camp with a group of school children. The TX 10 is a really big boat so we weren't the only school group this time. But ok its fine.
When we sailed out of the harbour the captain explained something about the waddensea and its flora and fauna. He also told about where we will be heading to to catch some fish and why he just picked that particularly spot. The captain has is own way of speaking. He speaks of course dutch, but he also managed to speak German at a certain funny level. The Germans seems fine with it, we found it most of the time extremely funny.
During fishing, so when the nets are down, you can relax on the boat while it sails over the big ocean. It was actually quit relaxing. The sea has a calming effect on children (and teachers tough). How lovely was that.
So the nets where sort or less fulll with shrimps, they will take the nets in and putted everything the caught on a big "table". One off the workers will explain what they caught and if the fish are poisoned they will make sure that nobody gets bitten or put his or her hands on the table. So when everything is clear and fish who cant be that long of off the sea will be trown back in the sea, its time to cook the shrimps. They do that on the boat. While the shrimps are getting cooked the kids can play with the rest of the fish and "save" them, read trow them all back in the ocean.
When the shrimps are cooked they will explain how to devilled the shrimps in the correct way, while we sail back to the harbour.
In the harbour, every group will get a bag of freshly caught shrimps with a note eat them before tomorrow and dont leave them in the warm cars.
It was a lovely day, the children had fun. I actually prefer a more smaller intimate boat than such a big one. But all over it was nice.
Note: sometimes you will see seals. Lobi! read more
