beautiful ocean views.

This was our first stop in Portland, and we were hoping to see light houses with the name "two lights" but were disappointed when there were no light houses. With that being said, the park was really beautiful and you get really dramatic views of the cliffs along the water. Don't come here if you are looking for light houses, but more of views of the ocean.

A wonderful place to see the ocean and nature: birds, flora and fauna and sea! Different trails and places to stop and have a picnic or BBQ! Some historic interests as well. Off season there is no payment for this state park. You cannot actually see any lighthouse from this park---which I think the entrance sign states. Drive up the road 1 min for lighthouse view. Really peaceful place meant for quiet, reflection, enjoyment and the appreciation of nature.

We did not see two lighthouses and the one we did, Portland Head Light, was in the distance, but that did not diminish our visit in the least. We walked along the seaside paths above the rocky headlands while avoiding the steep stone steps (we are seniors) that probably would lead to even better views. At the time of our visit (9/21) there no fees charged.

I had never been to Two Lights State Park! I don't know why or how I missed it - it's nearby other landmark/noteworthy areas that I've visited countless times. We had no idea what to expect when we came, but it immediately has become one of my favorite visual spots on the coast. It's quintessential Maine, isn't it? A dramatic, rocky coastline that abruptly ends as it meets the intense Atlantic ocean crashing into it. Yes, there's a groomed path you can walk along to take in the vast blue space ahead and around you, little cleared out areas among the trees that you can picnic at, a hill you can walk up to learn more about the bunkers within it and the history of the area, but mostly you're coming here to live on the edge. Literally. It's traversing dangerously jagged and uneven terrain to be as close to the depths of the sea as you can be without being swept away by it. We sat for ages taking in the 180°+ view of the open ocean because it was just *that* entrancing. Admittedly: I feel like I'll need to update this review when it's summer, because we came at a really special time. It was the middle of winter, the day after a full moon, high tide, and there was a wind warning. This was a recipe for a view unlike anything I've ever seen off the coast of Maine. Enormous, teal colored waves crashing violently and endlessly against the rocks. It was otherworldly. I'm sure it's much different in the middle of a hot, humid August day. Regardless -- if you want to be impressed by the glory and grandeur of nature... come here.

We brought lunch here to have a picnic by the water which was relaxing and we really enjoyed listening to the waves. You can see the lighthouse well but can't get close or a decent picture from where we sat.

Super interesting and unique state park on the Maine coast. If you're into military or geological history this is an easy win. We were on vacation nearby and stumbled on this park by taking the wrong turn in a walking trail. Saw the observation tower and said, "Well that's interesting." Checked out the former gun batteries. And scrambled on the rocky shore for an hour checking out tide pools. Looks like great cookout and picnic spot. Could be a great way to breakup a longer trip along the Maine coast.

Maine was a state I frequently ran to when I needed an escape from the city life in Boston, MA. I used to just pack up and drive up to Maine for a weekend to shut everything off and enjoy nature. So when we were visiting MA a few weeks ago, I jumped at the chance to drive up to Maine and meet up with some friends. They suggested this place and I'm glad they did. This state park is beautiful and very peaceful. It's relaxing without the pretentiousness and serene. The restaurant we were going to is located in this state park so I'm glad we got this amazing view while enjoying dinner at the Lobster Shack. Next time, I'll come back just to hike and take in the views a bit more.

Wow! Unexpected pit stop. The woman at the gate was so sweet and helpful. She told us all about the park. There's loads of hiking trails! Lovely views, a park, picnic areas, and clean restrooms. I wish we'd had more time to explore.

State park with entrance fee of $7.00 per vehicle. Very pretty site along the Maine coast. It overlooks Casco Bay and out into the Atlantic. Locals told us that you can see whales from here, but there weren't any whole we were there. There are two lighthouses nearby, hence the name. One is still operational and the other is closed and privately owned and was turned into a residence. There are old battlements here where cannon used to protect the waterway. Interesting history and beautiful views, check it out.

Two Lights State Park is my absolute favorite place to go when I need to get away from the world. It's calm and quiet and right on the ocean. They will let you host events here, weddings, company picnics etc. for a small fee and I've been to one or two. The best part is you feel like a Hobbit walking through the paths under the tree branches and the winding paths right up to an ocean cliff then back into the woods. Great place to picnic and relax and think for awhile. Do yourself a favorite and stop here with an Italian and your favorite book to get away for awhile.

This park was introduced to me by a very special person who came in to my life as quick as a fleeting sunset! I come here to now witness the sunrise to introduce the daily reflections... This park has plenty of trails along the rocky coast to enjoy a quick cardio workout or you can reflect by sitting on one of the many benches! I personally find our special place and sit in the rocky outcrop. So nice! There are bathroom facilities in the warm months, but in the winter you will need to go before you arrive! Happy adventuring!

Worth the sto and fee. There is ample parking within walking distance to shore. The sound of waves so soothing. Benches and picnic tables along the wall. Love it.

Wonderful views and fun walk with the husband. There is an anti aircraft battery and history at the park to check out too.

$7 per person is way overpriced. The park is so small and there are no lighthouses. We won't come back again.

It is 2hr parking minimum at the parking spot closest to the lighthouse, keep that in mind. I went here before June, so the museum and museum shop wasn't open. Drive slow as you venture through the park as there aren't a lot of sidewalks so people are walking kinda everywhere. Few food trucks planted around the park, I went to one that had Blueberry Pie ice cream, wow what a treat! Great park!

**November 2025: Saturday Morning Visit**…read more Visiting a lighthouse in Maine was a priority on this trip, so I did a little bit of research and saw that this lighthouse (the Portland Head Lamp) was not only the oldest lighthouse in Maine, but that it was also commissioned by George Washington! It's housed at Fort Williams Park and while we were there for the lighthouse there are other attractions like Fort Williams Museum and Cape Elizabeth History Center there as well. We parked as close as possible to the lighthouse and noticed that that was privately owned. The lowest number of hours you can purchase was 2 hours for $6. Since it was super windy and 30 some degrees we only stayed in the area for 20 mins or so. You can't go inside the lighthouse but you walk right up to it and see the coast. The view from the base of the lighthouse was beautiful and if it wasn't so cold I'd probably stay longer to enjoy the view. Note: They don't have trash cans there. Worth a visit! and maybe next time I'll see some of the other attractions at the park.

A note on that: - A Maine State Parks Pass is $55 for an Individual Season Pass, $105 for a Vehicle Season Pass. It gets you into dozens and dozens and dozens of parks across Maine, and most of those parks only really check passes from maybe the beginning of May to the end of September. - For Scarborough Beach State Park, which is operated in a public/private partnership with Black Point Resource Management LLC, from April 1st to October 1st it costs $7 per person per visit for residents/$9 for non-residents; from October 1st to November 15th it costs $6 per person per visit for residents/$8 for non-residents; it's $105 for an Individual Season Pass, $140 for a Vehicle Season Pass, $155 for a 24-hour Season Pass. So... it's *not* one of the cheaper options for beach access in the state. Is it glorious in the summer? I don't know. But according to the folks who own this beach: "Scarborough Beach offers some of the best swimming in New England with water temperatures in the high 60's throughout July and August." Is it glorious in the off season? Yes, but... The "yes": it's a long, sandy beach with uninterrupted views of the ocean. It makes for exceptional strolling and thinking and taking in blue space! Know that you have to park on the street, and it's a little bit of a walk to the beach itself, but it's so worth it. The "but": this is one of the most dog-walked beaches I've ever been to (and I rarely see them leashed). Every time I visit there is *a lot* of dog waste bags; one time I found 16 bags of dog poop and 2 used diapers. Yikes.

Luckily my little one only got 1 bite. We were all over Maine in the last 2 weeks including kayaking and out at Acadia national park. All outdoor activities and barely got any bites until now! There are other trails here too but after getting so many bites, we wanted to run away as fast as we could! I wish I didn't come here. Did you know that Portland Trails started in 1991? He donated the land around the falls and the rest of the land the trail walls through is a mix of public and private land. You see evidence of this with many marked signs that designate private property -- good to respect these so we can continue to walk these trails. Somehow I got lost off my usual path I take and ended up going on the greater fore river sanctuary trail loop around and across the railroad tracks, but the boardwalks were great! Back to the falls, if you start at the trailhead near Brighton ave, it's less than 0.25 miles of a walk. The falls are made of horsetails of rushing water over large slabs of rock. The trails are really well maintained and there's not too many people. You can definitely still hear traffic from some parts but there are a few quiet enclaves.

It's got beautiful and historical architecture with it's Victorian homes (and, apparently, former sea captain homes as well), stunning views of NH's White Mountains on clear days, spacious green areas and walking paths, a tree swing, the Western Cemetery fraught with our cities deceased wealthier ancestors, great walking areas, and it even once won an award from the Portland Phoenix for having one of the best secret spots to make-out in a tree (I kid you not). To me, the Western Prom is the established, composed, unruffled older sister (who's probably quite proper and likes garden parties) to the Eastern Prom. I'd like to think I've got a little West End in me, and it's fun to pretend I belong there when I'm picnicking and watching the planes come in and out of PWM from a distance. I've seen kiddos practicing lacrosse here with their dad, people relaxed under trees reading, friends playing a pick-up game of bocce while drinking something out of red solo cups. There used to be more events held here (... the legendary Halloween parade is not to be missed); so hopefully those concerts and outings begin to happen again!
