The indoor pool is on the small side, but it's also (as far as I know) the only indoor pool that doesn't require an apartment lease or hotel room booking within the city of Albany, which makes it the biggest indoor pool in town. The gym facilities also look pretty extensive, but I haven't actually come for the gym yet -- I'm in it for the swimming. The staff I've interacted with have been universally nice and helpful. My biggest complaint would be that the indoor pool closes so early, I assume for staffing reasons. Also, keep in mind that they require you to reserve your lane ahead of time for the indoor pool. I like the policy, since it saves you from going to the gym, getting changed and showering only to realize that there are no free lanes, but if you like to be more spontaneous about your workouts the JCC pool might not be for you.

There are a heck of a lot of services and activities associated with the JCC. The largest would seem to be the nursery school, the gym and the pool. The teachers really work hard to do more than just watch the children - they are conducting daily developmental play even with the small infants. We weren't even out of the door and he was already saying "I want to come back tomorrow". Coach Washburn is patient and thorough and teaches students of all different skill levels. It was also really nice that they have all of the equipment for the students to use at no extra charge beyond the lesson cost. Because there is no requirement to buy expensive gear, it is actually a very affordable sport for kids to be involved in. My son is looking forward to his next lesson with much anticipation.

He went from white to black in the little lions program and then white to (soon) black in the junior program. I have nothing but amazing things to say. The instructors really care about the kids. They don't just know their names, they know their interests, personalities, siblings names, friends. They take the time to really knew each student. They do not push kids through the belt levels either. They make sure each child is really ready to move up before they invite them to promotion testing. My son has ADHD and really struggled especially when he was little. My husband and I agree that a major reason our son is now disciplined, respectful, and can focus better is because of Master Yang's. I even tried Krav Maga and made some great friendships during my brief time in class. Pregnancy and knee surgery kept me from going back but my son continues in their taekwondo program. This studio is more than just a place to learn martial arts, it's a place that teaches a lifestyle, character development and perseverance. Master Yang's quickly became like a home to us and we have loved every minute of our experience. When I spoke to his Director Ashley, about my financial problems that I started having, she just nodded me to death, said she understood. As I had to leave the class indefinitely because my electric was getting disconnected, numerous car repairs, and well, just a lot of life hitting me at once. This company does not care if u will b without heat, a vehicle, a job or anything else that makes it a lil easier to get thru life. They want their money, even if you're homeless. They hold one charity event a year n claim to b about community. But yet, they can watch a member of their community fall, n proceed to burden them even more financially by sending a 4000.00 bill every month with a 20.00 late fee added every month. I should mention, joining this class is what contributed to my financial problems. As they convince you that u can not proceed in class without certain equipment, or u need certain equipment, or they're changing the uniform. They want u to buy, buy, buy every month there's something else u have to have for class. If u r not fully buying whatever n whenever they tell u, than u can't participate in class. They help u get into a finacial hole, but don't help u get out. I'm not asking for charity, I'm not even asking for food that I have little of to feed my family. I have no school stuff for my middle schooler, n they want me to pay a now over 4000.00 bill eventhough I've been trying to get out of this contract since April. It just goes to show, business is business, when it comes to money. Even to the people that claim to b there for community. Everyone in the class was in the same boat - friendly, supportive, fun - we all worked together and we tested our fitness levels at the beginning and then at the end of the 4 weeks - everyone in the class, from age 17 to almost 70 made great strides - the amount of energy, stamina, and ability is amazing. Loved how they taught proper form, how to use various pieces of equipment such as suspension bands, exercise balls, kettle bells, battle ropes and more. The trainers are friendly, energetic, challenging and motivating. I am already seeing results and cannot wait to move to the next level for the next 6 months going 3x per week. It is really a great place - my only regret is not starting sooner. Believe me, if I LOVE going to my classes and want exercise and good nutrition to be a part of my life - ANYBODY can do this. If you are at a higher level, they offer classes for you, too. You only compete with yourself.
