In the winter, the Minnicks run an excellent upland bird hunting preserve here. The dogs they run when they guide are eager and effective. As you'd expect, working with them is the highlight of the hunt.
The birds are truly game - no pheasants floating up like helpless helium balloons here; no lifeless chukkars flying up at 45 degrees into a perfect shot. Instead, even the bigger birds hold cover shockingly well, then burst from that cover and into fast flight, with shocking suddenness. And the quail, well, they're as fast and low-flying as you'd expect. We didn't have a disappointing bird in the lot.
The Minnicks also offer pre-hunt skeet to warm up, and a hearty lunch to warm up up. read more
